I want wind to blow probably top 50 song oat. This album made me feel dread, sadness and scared. But there's not really a lot of songs here that I would find myself actively listening to outside of listening to this album, that's why my score is the way it is. But the instrumentation is beautiful, blending folk and noise to create this eerie psychedelic sounds. Maybe this album will grow on me if I were to go through a painful breakup :)
An album doesn't have to push boundaries to be good. One big issue is that it oftentimes sound empty. The parts of Alex turners vocal rhythm/ melody along with the "stripped down" sound, leaves some parts of the songs empty.
It's basically has the themes of the debut album but dingy bars became sleek night clubs and more there's more sex now.
More low-key, more cozy than for you. I like it. Ride on Time might be my favourite song of his. And the first half up to ride on Time is untouchable
War pigs, paranoid and iron man hard carried. Other than that, nothing really sticks out except for Tony Iommi's excellent guitar work.
How TF does Paul McCartney conjure Get Back out of thin air, I'm jealous of that type of talent.
This is the most consistent strokes album, with cleaner production and vibes. I like it
Top notch rapping and production on each track. The tracks are so consistent and cohesive that I can't tell them apart from one another. I think it needs more variation to make it a more unique listening experience. However, it's a damn good album.
The first 2 songs are some of Coltrane's best, a love supreme levels of good. The rest is good ig.
The sound is surprisingly ahead of it's time. It's like the strokes but with lesser pop sensibilities.
Edit: It just keeps getting better on every listen wth
I never thought Stankonia will be my favorite out of the big 3. For a very long time Aquemini has been my number one, until I got the 3 albums on CD and started really listen to the albums as a whole and not standalone tracks. Although it get's draggy in the middle, it starts and ends well. Andre and Big Boi possibly reach their peak in their flows here. The freshness and uniqueness of each track is full of creativity. This wacky album is such a fun time man.
I passed this off as I thought that Outkast peaked in their lyrics and raps in Aquemini and Stankonia. Coupled that with a stripped down, laid back instrumental compared to the lavish sounds of Aquemini and the batshit insane sounds of Stankonia. ATLiens just seemed like a stepping stone to greatness and not really worth checking out. I was dead wrong, their rapping were just as on point here compared to the other 2 albums.
What really surprised me was how Big Boi held his own and even ... read more
I didn't get it at first, raps don't seem to fit in time with the music, fast rapping that I don't understand, skits inbetween the songs. But now, it slaps hard asf. It could have been much higher, even a 100 if they trim down the tracklist.
It has some of my favourite lyrics of all time, Andre & Big boi go so hard on these songs. So much lyrical liquid gold in this album.
Favourites: Every song except slump, Mamacita, y'all scared, Nathaniel and liberation.
Mf tried to sneak in pride and joy again and thought we wouldn't notice. 💀
I mean with a very very large percentage of songs being 12 bar blues, it does gets repetitive. However, the SWAG and skills that SRV have is otherworldly. I get high by just listening to this man play the guitar.
Favourites: Pride and Joy, Texas flood, Lenny
Worst: I'm crying (bro think he's slick) 😭🙏
It's like being a farmer in a greenhouse in space. Caring for plants in a scientifically optimal way whilst having space as it's backdrop. Peak lock-in music.
White light/white heat somehow feels more accessible than the "noise" songs on VU & N. Sister ray is a masterpiece on every level. It still has a tinge of catchiness under the heaping pile of trash and noise. But I love it more because of that.
Wait, I actually fucking love this album
Updated rating: 80 -> 95
Listen to sister ray 🙏
When I first listened to it last year, I barely made it past nightclubbing. But when I listened to it again this morning, I could easily get through the album whilst paying attention to the music. Iggy pops vocals might be an issue to some but it fits so well here. The only bad song I could say is "baby", that and "dum dum boys" takes a tad bit too long to rev up. Other than that, Sister midnight, Nightclubbing, mass production and China girl are absolutely highlights ... read more
