I.... feel kind of bad for this ranking. I don't know the movie this is supposed to be based off of, so I unfortunately don't have any attachment to it. Normally I would skip rating this altogether, but I do want to rate every single patricia taxxon album eventually (This is #17 for me!) so unfortunately it'll have to get this low rank since I'm just not really that into this. I did really like "smokestacks" though, probably because it was the only song that ... read more
Another pretty good album from Ciber1a. I still have no idea how I found this artist since they're so small, but somehow ORO SOLIDO came onto my radar in 2022, and then I listened to their debut album in 2023 a couple months after it released and I loved it! This album I wouldn't say is as strong as that one, but it still has some killer beats and a lot of fun and unique production, leaning pretty heavily into his background as an afro-peruvian artist. Needless to say I'm excited ... read more
Genuinely shocked at this- I tend to enjoy these underground hyperpop producers but not this much- Tracey really sells it for me. These songs are just so catchy and so fun, just truly a ball of fantastic energy through and through. What is it with these super underground artists I've never heard of and suddenly popping up on my radar, beating several other already established artists for me??? With that being said, "orphan source" is the absolute pinnacle of this album holy crap ... read more
It's some relatively interesting deconstructed club, but it definitely feels less like a refined project and more of a bunch of random ideas compiled together
Oof. I really like it when artists try unique genre fusions but this one is unfortunately one of those times where it completely misses for me.
Rick Farin seriously just came out of nowhere and dropped one of my favourite albums of 2024????
Okay, context. This didn't come totally out of nowhere, from what I can recall he was a special effects and visual artist that had worked closely with Sega Bodega and Eartheater in the past- two artists I love very much, the former of which has my personal pick for 2024 album of the year. So when they both endorsed him & are featured on songs here, instantly I was intrigued, and excited to ... read more
I really enjoyed this! Noise as a genre is honestly 95% of the time terrible. However, there are times when I think it is done EXTREMELY WELL, when it is there to build a certain mood, and when it's not just pure noise, and I think for the most part this album does achieve that through it's noise tracks! Especially "Ed flips the pillow". Some of the quieter and less noisy songs are also quite nice too. I think this album is a bit long and a bit bloated, but still generally a ... read more
It's pretty solid! I wouldn't say GREAT, I do like other Machine Girl albums better, it's difficult to reach the level that Wlfgrl set all that time ago but it's good to see Machine Girl still putting out super fun stuff
It's decent enough. Better than part 2 for sure but honestly part 1 is still the biggest highlight for me
This is unbelievably good. Every single song on here is like a twisted, fucked up, broken and distraught lullaby. It's not an uncommon aesthetic to take childrens toys like dolls and turn it into a horror aesthetic, but I gotta say, this is absolutely one of the best of its kind that I've seen. It also fuses elements of Japanese Post Rock & Glitch into the mix and it's just... so fascinating. My absolute top track of this thing is "C is for colleen who wasted away" ... read more
This album was really great, if a little bit too much. There are a handful of tracks, especially near the end that are just... not really useful and don't serve much of a purpose but man that first half is really killer. Especially "These Streets Will Never Look The Same". Holy crap this is the best thing they have ever put out, this is absolutely stunningly gorgeous and haunting at the same time. Overall a solid album!
I mean. I guess it's fine. It doesn't do anything I dislike, which is good. But is it really doing anything interesting at all? Anything unique in the grand scale of house music? No. At least it's a bit enjoyable, but I can't say I'll be coming back to this one anytime soon.
JACKIE EXTREME continues to make the coolest genre fusions I have ever heard. Seriously, hyperpop x witch house is not a combination you would expect to work but she genuinely makes it work SO WELL. It's impressive. Also, I'm so glad, the mix on crash in this version is soooo much better than the single version. I thought for sure that would remain my favourite, but my god, cold dead hands has got... well hands. This might be jackie's best song yet. There's something so ... read more
This is an extremely solid album, every song is really really great. The heavy beats are absolutely sick, this thing is endlessly pounding and dark, and despite that, there's a bit of beauty to be found in some of these songs too. STONEFIST and L.A. LOOKS are the top 2 for sure, but FLESH WORLD, DARK ENOUGH, and LIFE are also incredibly solid. Overall I really enjoyed this!
Okay it's not too bad but it's a bit of a rough start, in a way I'm actually surprised by. The music and the lyrics seem honestly... pretty generic? Which is really surprising considering how bizarre her internet culture was at the time. It feels a bit disconnected. There are some good songs but it's largely pretty mediocre.
This was really gorgeous! I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, considering Kelly's last album was a complete flop for me, but I am pleasantly surprised! On her last good album, Inner Song, Kelly Lee Owens managed to somehow mix a production style that was both Icy Cold, but also felt somewhat warm and ethereal. This album is quite similar, but surprisingly felt a lot more fiery to me! There was a level of intensity that I was not expecting from her here, but I EMBRACE IT. In particular, ... read more
Sigh. Now, I've never really been into rock much at all, but The Voidz have always been the one exception to that- I've always LOVED the experimentation from their debut album tyranny, Human Sadness is still one of my absolute favourite songs of all time for how insane and far it goes. That entire album I still come back to every once in a while. I also enjoyed their second album, Virtue, quite a bit as well, although nowhere near as much as Tyranny, as it was generally a bit more ... read more
This is actually really nice! It's about time I listened to this album in full and I am very happy with it. Aristocrat, Time Is Up, and Am I A Girl? are the 3 songs I knew beforehand, and remain as my favourites, however In A Minute, Hard Feelings, and The Rapture Ball join them! Overall really great album
