Very organic, very pleasant. Has some interesting beats. Sometimes fails to capture attention but other times actually is surprisingly good at doing so. Overall a solid listen
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith makes some super pretty music, although I often feel like it toes the line between being too avant-garde for her own good. Like, I appreciate the sound of this album, it is consistent with its sound throughout the entire runtime, however it is very structurally lacking for me, especially the "Labyrinth" series of songs. It's the kind of music that makes you go "oh that was nice" and then immediately forget about it. Thankfully this isn't the ... read more
This is quite nice! I think this ranks squarely in the middle in terms of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith albums. It's way better than stuff like "The Mosaic Of Transformation", because these songs actually do have structure and beats, and go somewhere instead of being ambient sound experiments, but it definitely doesn't hit the level of transcendence and beauty that albums such as "The Kid" reach. Regardless, I found myself quite entranced when listening to songs from this ... read more
This is a cute enough lil chiptune album. I think the first half FAR outshines the second half though. Second half is suuuuper dull to me apart from the song "Small Dreams". "Small Adventures" probably my favourite song, but I can't lie, "Small Dangers" would be my fav if it weren't for one AWFUL TEXTURE that ruins it for me. Whatever that texture is where things get messy for like a second- it sounds like a production blemish to me, but it's so ... read more
What on earth is this album doing with such a low average???? I love it! I truly don't understand how people consider this to be any lower experimentation than anything else they've put out, it feels very consistently up to par with their other stuff for me! My top two tracks here are "FloriDada" and "Recycling", however I also really like "Spilling Guts", "Lying In The Grass", "Natural Selection", and "Summing The Wretch", ... read more
Love it! Never heard of Emma Louise but her vocals go extremely well with Flume production. I'm especially a fan of the song "Homicide". I'm not typically a fan of key changes in music, but the ones here are BEAUTIFULLY done. This song is gorgeous. Apart from that I'm also a bit fan of "Monsoon" as well, but generally most tracks here are pretty good.
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is back once again! I wasn't sure whether to be excited for this album or not, as previous Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith albums have sort of been hit or miss for me. When she hits, she produces true psychedelic pop masterpieces (such as The Kid), but a lot of her albums kinda miss too, as I find she often falls into the trap of going too avant-garde which leads to formless meandering sound pieces which are pretty, but extremely forgettable. I wasn't sure which category ... read more
I have been generally aware of Animal Collective for half a decade now, having been a fan of a couple of their songs, particularly "My Girls", "Brother Sport", and "Florida", but for whatever reason, I never really sat down to actually listen to an album of theirs. This wasn't a situation of "oh, maybe later", for whatever reason I just... didn't really think about doing that at all, and I strongly regret that now because hearing My Girls and ... read more
mmmmmm yummy power noise. "Tentack One" and "Lost Highway (Exit)" clear everything else on this album. The malicious industrial vibes from them are unmatched. It definitely feels like mildly dated but also this was definitely extremely experimental for the time. I'm impressed.
This album is fairly decent. I think this is one of the coolest ideas for a concept album, and it's interesting seeing her takes on the artists I'm familiar with and the ones I'm not. I'd say my two favourites would be "Cy Twombly" and "Ingvar Cronhammer", neither of which are artists I was familiar with beforehand. While conceptually this album is super interesting, I do think sonically it's a bit weak, although this is pretty early on in ... read more
I've seen Patricia Taxxon describe this album as her "spiritual debut" before, and I can kinda see it! It's somewhat mixed bag I'd say but it is a cute lil project and has some pretty great tracks. Standouts here include "Pack my Box" and "Tonight, We Ride" in particular, these two are a double whammy of idm/chiptune that I just find especially infectious. I also adore the odd beats on "Film", those three make an easy top 3 for me.
Patricia Taxxon is back! After taking a break for a year due to mental health issues, she returns with an album that kind of of feels like a new beginning for her, it very much feels like a throwback to her older work, but with the added skill that she has built up over the past several years. "Ice Team" is my favourite song here, followed by "Miss Drizzle" and "Maritime".
Hm. I think the sound design on this album is nice, and absolutely the strongest thing going for it. However, the actual song structure feels very lacking to me. I think this was a very intentional thing, as these songs largely feel more like pretty ambient experiences rather than cohesive songs, but I can't deny that it doesn't... leave me hanging a bit. It's just hard to be memorable, it feels like there's nothing to latch onto, especially when the sonic palette ... read more
I was familiar with ninajirachi before this and generally enjoyed her stuff but wasn't ever like adoring it. I find that to be the case with a lot of y2k electronic music for me tbh like I like it but I don't love it, and this was the same for a lot of this album but I did actually particularly find a couple of standouts, to my surprise
CSIRAC was a standout bc I like the super heavy beat, I am often drawn to that exact kind of beat that u just feel in your chest and this one was ... read more
Not super mind blowing, but a still nice showing from internet legend, Devilish Lemonous. MEDIA TRAIN is the best one imo.
This album is phenomenal. Definitely some of the all time most psychedelic stuff I've ever heard in my life, it truly feels like the cover art, just lose yourself in the trippy ethereal vibes. "In a World, but Not of the World" is handily the best song on here. The build on this track is fucking phenomenal, and the glitchy textures also make it absolutely everything to me. I am wholly obsessed with this song. I also absolutely adore "Until I Remember", which similarly ... read more
Once again, doldrums absolutely excels with his odd fusion of industrial pop. His odd high pitched voice mixed with the industrial beats and production just hits something in my brain I can't quite describe. Particularly, "Industry City" is the biggest banger here to me, but "My Friend Simjen" is right behind it, despite being definitely the most MEMEY/bizarre song here. I'm also a massive fan of "Loops", "Funeral For Lighting" and ... read more
it's nice but a bit too disconnected for me. I like the songs "Ur Tchun Tan Tse Qi" and "California Rhinoplasty", but not love.
I want to like "for Felix and all the rats" because it has a really incredibly surprising and scary breakdown in the second half, but there's just too much random noises without any rhythm in the rest of the song.
This album is great! It took a little bit for it to grow on me, but I now can say I'm very into it, it's very very classic Keith, especially in the vocal manipulation styles and the way these songs build up. "Die Endlessly" is definitely my favourite, I find this one absolutely beautiful in the way it builds up, but every song on here is pretty great! I don't have much insightful commentary to add, I just enjoy it.
