It's been well over a year since I last listened to this in full, and WOW, this is actually phenomenal. This is such a tight collection of such easily enjoyable tracks it's genuinely insane. Bruno and Anderson's chemistry is amazing, and the songs themselves are some of the best this decade, and I require a new album badly
Also Blast Off is easily top 3 on this, I have no idea how it's not anywhere as well received as the singles were
Such a fun album to listen to. Really funny lyricism, genuinely mindblowing production and a really cool concept. It's such a drastic difference from how genuinely depressing all of Ugly Mane's other music is, much listen for sure
This is genuinely incredible and I've really been sleeping on this considering I've known this has existed for a while. Every bar is cold, every delivery is amazing, and every beat is extremely creative. Especially Come Back Baby, probably my favourite track despite the beat being so simple. I do agree that this could've been even better with at LEAST 10 tracks, this album still goes crazy even if its a glorified ep
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: Long Season (this isn't my first time hearing this, but I never rated it for some reason)
This is really a once in a lifetime track, nothing like it made before, nothing like it made after. Really just some of the prettiest music you'll ever hear. Part 1 is a beautiful intro, Part 2 is a stellar continuation and Part 3? Part 3 is really interesting, because it's such an odd sonic shift from the rest of the album, the other 4 parts are beautiful dream pop melodies ... read more
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: Toxicity
This is my first metal album EVER, so I really had no expectations for this, and its unlikely I would've ever chosen to actually listen to this if not for this series. Needless to say, it was well worth the listen
The riffs on here are really good and I love the dichotomy (especially instrumentally) between the more hardcore moments and the more melodic singing moments. Speaking of the singing, those parts are easily my favourites of the record, and I ... read more
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: Hounds of Love
To start off, I will say that this record has very pleasing instrumentation, it is wonderfully produces and has moments of really creative instrumentation, such as the very glitchy Waking the Witch and Jig of Life, which using bagpipes, which i've never heard on an album before. Kate Bush is also a very talented vocalist, her voice meshes extremely well with the production, and it gives the music itself an extremely grand atmosphere
THAT BEING ... read more
Corny and overly edgy BUT this goes really hard, especially parts 3 and 4. However I can't cosign the usage of the n word lol
OG Review: First half great, second half absolute snoozefest, wanna like it more but i doubt i ever will
Best Track: Pink + White
Worst Track: Nights
OG Score: 50
I've had a tumultuous listening experience with this album to be honest. The first time I heard it I only loved Pink + White and thought everything else was boring. I gave it probably 2 more listens and decided that I loved the first five tracks and nothing else. In essence, this was just a really overrated album to me, I could ... read more
Really pretty, reminds me of soil. Not as a good as that album, but this is a really charming listen with some amazing production choices on many songs
mac lethal has quite possibly the worst verse of all time, the other 3 are bad but his is comically awful
OG score: 83
OG review: Great album, but I find the mid section kinda forgettable lol, the first 3 tracks and ending are incredible though
I was way wrong about this thing i can't lie. This record is nonstop heat all the way through, I've always thought the tracks after the first 3 weren't that amazing, and I was just WRONG. This may be my favourite RTJ album now, this album has 0 weak points at all
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: A Love Supreme
This is definitely a hot take, that being said I don't really have much to say. It's cool, it's a classic jazz album, but it just sounds like pleasant background noise to me. Didn't hate my listen, just really didn't get much out of this album. Can't really say I'm a huge jazz fan based on the 2 jazz records I've heard so far, but we'll see
tldr: bee movie
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Flawless. Perfectly crafted in every faucet from front to back. This isn't even a case where I may have a few issues but aren;t enough to drag down the score, I really have 0 issues with any aspect of this record. From the writing, to the rapping, to the singing to even the SKITS, even single part of this just seems to be molded to perfection. Fucking shame she never made another record, but this is more than good enough to ... read more
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: Remain In Light
Fun. Definitely not an album I went crazy over, but it was a pleasant listen. First half is definitely better than the second, but I don't think the difference is as people have stated. But the difference between the first and last track is insane lol (both are great). Overall cool stuff, I'll be returning to some of these tracks for sure
tldr: holy fuck talking heads!
Listening to the AOTY Top 100: Soundtracks for the Blind
I will admit, I was EXTREMELY skeptical I would even like this for two main reasons. One, I'm not big into drone or ambience, and thought this would be boring and two, this album is long as fuck. Outside of trilogy (which is a compilation of 3 whole albums), this is by far the longest project I've ever heard, and keeping an album interesting for that length is no easy feat
But yet, it did. The soundscapes that this album creates are ... read more
