JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
85

as soon as this collab was announced I knew it would be straight fire. these 2 guys have great chemistry and are both total weirdos in the best way possible, so of course this album ended up being hard as bricks. its more or less a jpegmafia project with danny brown features, as the whole thing is marked by peggys abrasive, eccentric production style which is not a bad thing as ive been a huge fan of his for a while now. these are some of the strongest, most boundary pushing beats Ive ever ... read more

Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacation
55

this one kinda hurts as i have really liked a good chunk of miley's music in general (especially plastic hearts, a genuinely great album) but this one is not it. i was disappointed to hear her unique vocals wasted by some incredibly bland production for this whole album. most songs here are dry and generic sounding, a total let down after the fiery rock performances on PH. also, despite the title this album doesn't even have a bright, summery sound to it, and for the most part it was pretty ... read more

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
95

mind blowing pop, caroline killed it on this one!!! so many dynamic moments on this album making it super fun to go back to. this will end up as one of 2023s best albums Im guaranteeing it now. even the singles sound stronger within this incredible album.

Paramore - This Is Why
85

this could be the most I have enjoyed a Paramore album! catchy sections of this will be stuck in my head for a while. gotta say the instrumentation here is tasteful and immediate ear candy to me. really loving the overall vibes of this album keeping things chill while still delivering super memorable bangers. this is why, running out of time, figure 8, and liar are all wonderful tracks but the whole album just flows very smoothly start to finish for a great experience.

David Bowie - Low
100

been checking out a lot of great bowie albums but this one has to be my favorite. the exciting first half has some of his catchiest and most creative rock songs (breaking glass and be my wife are my favorites), and then the album evolves into electronic pieces that take you to another world. the instrumental second half gave me such goosebumps. Low really is a unique experience that i can't stop revisiting.

Pharrell Williams & Travis Scott - Down In Atlanta
80

fun track with a nice groovy pharrell beat, feel like this could have been a little better but i still enjoy it.

BROCKHAMPTON - The Family
80

while it is a raw and unpolished project the family was an amazing listen for me. kevin rapped incredibly well here reflecting on brockhampton and talking about what led to their breakup. the subject matter is relatable as well talking about the way things change throughout your mid 20s when you start to grow apart from people in your life. also, the production/sampling on this album is fantastic, so many good beats. I can see this becoming a cult classic for BH fans

BROCKHAMPTON - GINGER

This is the best BH album post-sat trilogy. Front to back it just hits, so warm and catchy

Marlowe - Marlowe 3
85

wow, this album is definitely going unnoticed by too many people. i had only dabbled a bit in Marlowe before but after checking out their third project I am sold on this duo. the production here is extremely tasteful and interesting while solemn brigham just adapts to all of it so easily. cant wait to go back to the first two marlowe's now, this was a really fun listen. Light Trip is one of my favorite rap songs this year

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B
90

very beautiful forward-thinking pop music right here!!

Freddie Gibbs - $oul $old $eparately
90

absolutely FIRE album from freddie, which should be no surprise yet i was still skeptical going into this album. his goofy antics made me forget that this dude is a top tier rapper in every aspect. the beat selections on this project are immaculate, and freddie gibbs just flows over them with the same precision he has always had, just making it sound easy. there are great songs all over this thing, with plenty of variety too. the way the fun first half of the album flows into its darker second ... read more

Meechy Darko - Gothic Luxury
60

always really liked meech in FBZ so this one was a little bit of a let down for me. definitely some good songs on here like Hennessy and Halos, Lavish Habits, and Lost Souls, plus meech is a very talented rapper with decent hooks as well. however his growly voice becomes exhausting for an entire album length and im not gonna lie, there were a little too many cringe bars on this album for me to bear. overall not that bad but meech didnt really deliver as a solo artist like i wouldve wanted.

Al Divino & Estee Nack - GL1TCH
85

one of the best under the radar rap projects this year. super raw, grimy east coast rap with an abstract, twisted edge to it that i like a lot. the beats are psychedelic and sound like theyre from another galaxy yet divino and nack rap over them with ease. they have perfect chemistry (need to check out more of their collab albums) and their voices blend together so well on every track. SWOOSH, MCGRIDDLES, and DRUGINDUCEDMIRAGE are the standouts for me. listening to this makes me feel like the ... read more

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Solid State Survivor

waited waaay too long to listen to this. entire album SLAPS and i cant even comprehend that this was made in the 70s

Princess Nokia - Diva

very catchy, one of my fav singles of this year, nokia album soon i hope......

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
95

this is a very personal album from Kendrick largely about his mental health, experiences in therapy, and family. definitely the most vulnerable/introspective album he has made and its still really enjoyable to listen to. great instrumentals with lovely pianos and an interesting variety of sounds. kendrick's rapping is still on another level and i think this is an album that fans will only appreciate more as time goes on as he delves into such complex topics. i also love how by the end of this, ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Part 5

just incredible. some of the greatest rapping and deepest verses Ive ever heard from him. and the production is ridiculously good. expectations are sky high for this album now !!!

Black Star - No Fear Of Time
85

the return of Black Star is one of the standout moments of 2022 in hip hop, but will probably be overshadowed by Kendrick in the next few weeks. not that this is a bad thing, but No Fear of Time really is stellar. absolutely loving Madlib's production on here and he provides such a beautiful backdrop for Mos Def and Talib Kweli, who still sound fantastic. i can understand people thinking Mos seems a little low energy on here but I think that style works well for such a smooth album. Talib is ... read more

Jack Harlow - Come Home The Kids Miss You
65

really don't think this is as terrible as people are saying, its pretty decent pop rap for the most part. great production on many of these tracks plus jack can flow pretty well. don't get me wrong though, I can't defend this album much more than that. Jack drops way too many corny bars across this whole album and his style is pretty one dimensional. also WTF was that Pharrell beat on Movie star. still I cant act like I didnt enjoy bops like Young Harleezy, Nail Tech, Dua Lipa, Lil Secret, and ... read more

Dev Lemons - Autopilot

BANGER this might be my favorite song of hers so far
