After enjoying "fishmonger," I was hopeful that "Wallsocket" would be even better than its predecessor as I heard a lot of hype surrounding the record. After a few listens I think "Wallsocket" mostly improves upon "fishmonger" by offering more variety sonically. I do think that some moments work better than others though. I feel that when it comes to the softer tracks like "You don't even know who I am," "Horror movie ... read more
One of the weirdest progressive metal albums I've ever heard. I swear on the first track a mouse got digitally sucked into their recording software. The vocals throughout are also very silly and sound like bubbles. The instrumental performance is insane on this album and I would recommend it for that alone.
The breakdown near the end of this song is the biggest problem with modern deathcore bands right now
I've never been a fan of Camila Cabello’s music before. I dislike her biggest hits "Havana,” “Never Be the Same,” and “Señorita,” so the chances I was gonna like this album were astronomically unlikely. However, I had to check this out after seeing how much negative reception this album is getting. After listening to this, I can see why and respect her past work slightly more because of it.
It's impressive that this album is a ... read more
Melt-Banana are back to show that they can still make insane music that takes the listener on an audible drug trip
"Manual Manic Procedures" is a death metal album that is able to stand out from the crowd of other death metal albums by going harder with its riffs and vocals compared to other bands in the genre. Despite being a very consistent album, it additionally offers more dynamics throughout the album that give it more depth, especially with tracks like "Hands of Eternity," "Led to the Chamber / Liquified," and the title track. Which helps this album not fall into the trap ... read more
This is the first High On Fire album that I have listened to. "Snakes For The Divine" is pretty harrowing album as a majority of its tracks feel like a battle is going on. I think that's comes from the strong performances from every member of the band, as well as how they combine heavy metal with stoner metal. I also really like the way this album sounds and is mixed almost as if it were made in the 1980s or 90s which gives it this 'classic metal' feel to it. If I had a ... read more
I was hoping to love this album as much as the majority of the people on AOTY, but I have some issues with this project. From repeated listens of this project, I found that the pacing of the a lot of the tracks on the album are pretty sluggish, specifically at a lot of the softer sections on that album. I think the band could've worked more on tightening the prog sections of the album, and I feel that would've made the album more coherent.
Although, a few tracks that I thought were ... read more
A standard pop punk album that isn't trying to make anything unique or pretentious, but has some good vocal performances and lyrics that are better than average for the genre. However, if you hate pop punk you likely won't enjoy or get anything out of this.
This was my first time listening to a full project by the band "Courting." I found "Grand National" to be a distinct experience that I wasn't quite expecting. I think that was due to my only experience of listening to this band originally was for a single or two for their new album this year that I just found to be alright. I really enjoy how this EP sounds very human in a suburban way and we get to hear their manic thoughts about their daily routine and life. Like on ... read more
I see Post Malone is continuing the 'collaborate with the worst country artists' challenge and made another stereotypical, terribly produced country drinking song with Blake Shelton
Foreign Hands have finally released their debut album "What's Left Unsaid." I found the band's latest work "Bleed The Dream" to be a good metalcore EP that sounded like it was doing something new with 2000s metalcore, so I was excited to check this out. What was also enticing about this album was when I found out the record's influences were, among others, Converge and Cave In. I think Foreign Hands deliver on that promise as it features some crushing riffs ... read more
This new Wage War album… is NOT GOOD.
I mean… what do I even say about this album?
The band literally thought it was a good idea to title their album one letter away from the word "sigma" that is literally being memed and made fun of to death online this year. The album doesn’t even flow well as the songs don't even sound like they're on the same album. The record begins with “THE SHOW’S ABOUT TO START” which features this electronic ... read more
I've heard way worse from TX2, but lyrically this song still sucks and it sonically sounds like My Chemical Romance and SeeYouSpaceCowboy but bad
This isn't my first full album I've listened to by CANDY, but this is my first review of a project by them. From what I've heard, this album is a different direction from their powerviolence sound of their previous projects. The band has taken "It's Inside You" a sort of Underneath by Code Orange sound due to the combinations of hardcore punk and glitchy electronic sections featured across the album. I think that was a cool to hear a band attempt that style cause I ... read more
This will likely be one of the best emo and post hardcore albums of the year. It features some great singing performances and instrumentals that feel like a modern spin of the emo, post hardcore, and pop punk genres. Some songs definitely stick with you more than others but none of them I would describe as bad or trying to be bigger than what they actually are.
