Really solid on some of the songs with very unique beats. Voice is kinda unsatisfying but it's not a deal-braker at all. This album was just inconsistent song to song, but did a great job showing his potential as most debuts should.
overall this thing was extremely average and kind of uninteresting. He really didn't take any risks with this thing at it just felt like a j cole album without the bangers. there were some solid tracks for sure but overall left me feeling empty
really solid debut, this whole album has a nostalgic and hometown vibe associated with it which is really promising to see. It has a couple of bangers in both rap and r&b with Have Mercy, RNP, and Broke as Fuck. There aren't any bad songs on this album and there are some other really solid songs outside of those 3 I just mentioned. Nothing ever too crazy sonically but overall he shows his versatility and consistency on this album.
what i had originally wrote didnt get saved but heres what i can remember
first few songs were really good conceptually but just missed one level of polishing that would have kept it from being sloppy
the next like 5 songs also had good concepts but were not excecuted very well. like these songs would have been 8.5s+ if they were excecuted. then for the rest of the album everything is sloppy and there are a few good concepts scattered around. this album will definitely need a re-listen, but ... read more
first two songs were clangers and the rest were really solid but they kinda took away from the energy the first two songs brought
it feels like a 3rd of the songs are the exact same, but dis dooda and chosen are two of my favorite songs of all time and are the only reason i came to this album in the first place. There are also some other good songs like trappin aint dead, tru colors, and more than average. Dooda is just so infectious. Overall pretty decent
loved the first 3 but for some reason he went chill and rnb after that. really ruined the energy. potential is still crazy. but just maybe seperate the hype and the chill into two different albums.
very diverse with very unique instrumentals. all you can ask for in an OST
WOWWWWW. First half had 0 misses and had an absolute alien/liminal feel to it. I'm glad they put together an actual good album instead of just trying to be nostalgic. Features were decent with a few outstanding ones such as Kendrick, but I could have done for 1 less Busta Rhymes feature. The second half was a bit less creative, but Conrad Tokyo is incredible and it still kept me guessing. Overall it's great for A Tribe Called Quest to go out with their best album yet.

first three songs are just really great but there's not as much nature or nostalgia i was looking for until the 4th track, then it went back to solid. It seems that they are the highlight instead of the slightly incomplete beats. Then it's the best song from that millennium, then a good Del feature, then a BANGER in Anything Can Happen. Overall it doesn't feel extremely well-put together, but, it has 93' til infinity and is still a great album without it.
Still love his unique vocal inflexions but the atmospheres of all the songs aren't as present as I'd hoped. Loved the electronic part in the last song and I hope he uses that more. I think the songs will grow on me, hence the high score.
overall a decently consistent album and all of the good songs are very high tier. simple but effective production and grimes voice is great
though i still love his voice this album as a whole was lackluster. i think everyone listens to him for the vibes and they just werent there
The vibey songs were way better than the sad songs because I found the sad songs kinda cringy and overall uninteresting. Some of them were also too long for replay value. However, the vibey songs were great and even the sad songs fit together great with the album as a whole.
Was mostly repetitive guitar instrumentals, they only hit when Trippie or the feature did something out of the ordinary. The last song was really solid but wasn't very similar to the rest of the album. Not bad by any means overall though
Anyone calling this mid has the most basic taste imaginable. Anyways best first listen of all time and maybe best album of all time.
Re-reviewing this thing a year later
Yeah I was tripping this ain’t a 100. The first listen was incredible and it’s still a great album but not a 100.
