I love how the sound of this album is much more defined compared to Joji's previous projects, it feels like he finally found it.
I want to say something super pretentious about production, but, man, it's just extremely solid, it's so full. It makes me feel like I'm flying through space in a really worm blanket and stuff happens really far away or sometimes much closer, which ties really well with main themes of this album: the feelings you get, the overall state you are in after and right ... read more
Even though it doesn't make me want to pick up my guitar as much as other suff off the LP like Grace, Mojo Pin or Hallelujah, all the essential Buckley stuff is here. It's intense, punchy and incredibly emotional. The fade out in the end feels a bit awkward though
A truly spectacular yet not perfect piece of symphonic metal
I mean, let's list the things I think are perfect:
1. The bass is just so melodic I love it. From time to time the other instruments give space too breathe and let it truly shine
2. Drumming is phenomenal, I didn't think drums could work so well with violins in that way omg
3, The sound of the whole thing bright and overall impeccable
4. I love the whole symphonic stuff, I feel like it's really easy to fall flat on your face when ... read more
Boring, stupid, straight up bad. The concentration of exciting events are like 2 seconds over 10 minutes
The Dripping Tap would fit here perfectly, wouldn't it?
Is AllMusic some kind of joke website or something? How can you give this a 2/5 lmao
Edit: Great job people, it finally happened, we deleted AllMusic :'-)
It's really hard for me to review this album, for now I just don't know what angle to take, so I'll just express what it does to me and what I see it as.
The whole Godspeed You thing is giving apocalyptic narrative which really tightly sits alongside the feeling(!) of apocalypse (music, boys, am I right). To me their apocalypse feels internal, personal, an apocalypse of a soul. Their narrations dig deep into me, make me open doors I'd never open.
When it comes to this particular album, oh ... read more
As far as laid back covers go, this is pretty good.
I love guitar playing on the cover more than piano on the original, it's feels more dynamic thus kinda more emotional. Though the vocals are rough compared to the original, I feel like Bellamy brings a new level of powerfulness to everything. Still it would be unfair to say that the angelicness of Simon's performance adds something so smooth and soothing that makes it so iconic.
It feels like cover just takes different path but with the ... read more
Wow, this is incredible.
Firstly, this album shows how solid and vercitile piano can be as leading instrument. With subtle production complimenting it rythmicly and supporting it melodicly a really energetic body gets created. Fiona engages in a dance with it with her vibrant, extremely gorgeous singing, painting oil pictures, one after another, all different and engaging all around.
Feels like Fiona doesn't hold back exposing herself, I love how beautiful imagery is here. She definitely is ... read more
I love the sound of that album. The bass tone is fat and warmingly silky, guitars sound great. Staley is still one of my favourite rock singers of all time and it shows on this thing, even though it's not a loud powerful grunge rock record in which Lanes vocals shine the most, he's still amazing and gives of some compelling and emotional performance. The Alice in Chains' drumming has always been top notch, crazy groovy and hard hitting every time and this is also not a exception.
