Love on the Run is an incredible track, a real showcase of how good Broken Bells can sound when they get everything right. Everything after that is an example of their biggest downfall - their overly constant sound. Songs 6-9 could play in any order and you'd be hard-pressed to really tell them apart, as the overall listening experience becomes monotonous and boring within a few tracks. It's a shame, as I feel there was potential that this album could be near the top of people's year-end ... read more
Hauntingly disjointed, but in a good way. A really unique listen that is impressive from beginning to end.
Idk I quite enjoyed it, and I rarely find myself enjoying the more 'pop-y' sounds and trends in current music. My own biggest issue with this album is that it feels like it lacks direction and consistency, there are quite a few solid standalone tracks but I find that as an overall listen it feels quite confused and lost. Saying that, some of the tracks as individual listens are really quite enjoyable and, whilst keeping their pop roots, expand on the genre and experiment in some interesting ... read more
Completely neutral music - almost completely forgettable. Saying that, 'Slipping Away' is a pretty nice song that I quite enjoy, and most of the tracks at least had a nice sound to them. It makes for some decent enough music to zone out to, but I don't think I would ever choose to listen to this album as a whole for a given reason.
My type of music. This album is just a brilliant journey through a synth-charged political landscape, with catchy hooks, rhythms, and sounds in general. Some tracks that already stand out do so even more within the context of the album - 'Committed to the Cause' is already a solid track but with how it stands out in this album its power is amplified. This is definitely an album worth checking out. :)
A really nice acoustic performance, can't pick a favourite since all the tracks are great
Gets some harsh criticism, but is an overall solid debut album with some strong tracks that have become synonymous with British 00's indie-rock. It does suffer from an abundance of filler tracks, with the back end of the album being forgettable at best but on the whole, I'd say this is a pretty decent debut. :)
Decided to check this album out after Discovery Zone were a support act at a gig I went too - turns out this is a really enjoyable album. Beautiful sounds and an overall concept that is a joy to the ear. Will definitely be exploring more of DZ in the future after this :)
Starts off really strong but trails off a little, probably the weakest of the LCD albums. Still a whirlwind of ideas and musical creativity, but after an hour this becomes a little stale. If this had been kept to just disc 1 I think this would have scored up near the high 80s for me, but disc 2 just underwhelmed me a little. Still a fun listen and one that most people should check out at some point.
Words can't do this album justice, it's simply brilliant from beginning to end.
Quite unique and thoroughly enjoyable. It won't be to everyone's taste, but it's a fun listen for sure.
Comfortably one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. I went into my first listen with high expectations, and even that high bar was far exceeded by the shear quality of this album. An absolute must-listen.
I genuinely can't tell if the positive reviews are serious or not. This sucks.
Overall a fairly enjoyable album, but I personally struggled with parts of it and found that it felt quite a bit longer than it's actual runtime. Still, there were a lot of enjoyable sounds that stuck with me, and made this an album that may consider listening to over and over in the future.
Overall a pretty nice album, with a solid amount of creativity and artistry. Unfortunately, it just didn't click with me, but there are some people who will absolutely adore this.
It's almost a shame that the final song is so good, because it does not belong on such a mediocre album. It makes for ok noise in the background, but overall it all sounds incredibly generic, uninspired, and overall pretty boring.
A really pleasant listen, the final few tracks in particular I really enjoyed
