Not really my thing, but I still found some decent enjoyment in a fair few of the songs :)
This album is an easy 80+ for me if the absolute abomination that is 'If Lovin You Was Wrong' didn't exist. I genuinely don't think I've come across a song that negatively impacts an album as much as this one track does, and it's a real shame because the rest of this release is generally fantastic. Despite the various styles and tempos, the overarching quality is solid and most tracks are enjoyable. The flow from track to track is a little strange, and the lyrics certainly show their age from ... read more
Sounds quite nice, but didn't really do it for me. The overall sound felt quite muddled and directionless, despite the pleasant sound of it all. Would make for some nice background music, but I can't see it being much more
Really nice sound, but nothing truly memorable in terms of substance. Would make for brilliant background music
A less heavy album than TNYMIS, but still a really mesmerising sound that is a joy to listen to. The dreamy quality runs through every track and the feature from Someone slides in perfectly too. Another enjoyable album from Klangstof :)
If I had to some this up in one word: 'Conflicting'
The Rat is an absolute belter of a song, the rest of the album sounds like some dodgy karaoke of discarded Strokes songs. Very underwhelming as on overall experience.
A truly enchanting album - with some unique sounds that are amplified by Gwenno's use of the Cornish language. For those who can speak Welsh (or any other Celtic language for that matter) there is an argument that this album hits even higher highs, as the familiarity of Cornish entices you in yet leaves you mystified as it is just different enough from your own language. That is not to say that others won't thoroughly enjoy this either, as Gwenno utilises both Cornish and Welsh to their fullest ... read more
Begins really strong - Trick of the Light is my favourite track - but then just fades off to quite middling sounds. Nothing spectacular, but a nice listen at least
Nice enough to stick in my library for now, I think the short runtime actually saves it. As others have mentioned it's a little one dimensional but for such a short album I don't find that to be too much of an issue, however any longer and yes, I would find it quite dull too. I think it makes for some great background music or similar zoning-out activities, but as a standalone piece of work it's simply decent.
Such a nice listen, the instrumentation is pure brilliance.
Edit: 87->89, listening experience is bliss
A really interesting listen, definitely enjoyed but not sure how much replayability it has as a full album. I would still recommend you give it a listen :)
There are some really interesting sounds and ideas throughout Songbook, and some fairly stellar tracks too. There isn't necessarily a 'weak' song throughout the entire album, yet I feel that the whole overall album experience is lacking a little. I can't quite put my finger on why that is as of yet, but nonetheless this is still worth a listen as it is a largely enjoyable album. :)
Interesting album with some solid ideas - would like to have seen a little more but this shows some real promise for the future
