A must-hear album that becomes slightly less must-hear towards its latter half, but remains strong throughout. The first 3 tracks are stellar, and whilst the rest of the album maintains its impressive level, those tracks set the bar almost unfairly high for the rest of the album.
A brilliant release regardless.
Spectacular. I came into this album not knowing what to expect at all, and I loved pretty much every second of it. Big fan! :)
Would it be wrong to say that a single track carries an album full of 90+ rated songs?
That may be the case with 98.12.28, as it's closing track - Long Season - elevates an already excellent album to a new realm of musical brilliance.
Disc 1 is brilliant if not perfect - some tracks are more on the side of 'very good' rather than 'brilliant' but the consistency and overall listening experience is incredible. Disc 2 takes it to another level, with 'In the Air' being a spectacular track that ... read more
I think I like it? One of the most confusing albums I've listened too, a myriad of ideas and noise seemingly thrown together with the hope that it works. In fairness, it works more often than not, but it is quite a conflicting album that will be a difficult listen to many.
Some beautiful soul-driven lo-fi funk to be found here. None of the tracks particularly stand out per se, but as a full album the consistency is terrific. An enjoyable listen from beginning to end :)
A really solid album that showcases the group's outstanding musical talents, but it just does not resonate with me the same way that 'You Can't Steal My Joy' did. A good listen, just not as good as their previous release
Some really fun, creative covers and plenty of funky tracks. An enjoyable listen :)
First listen through so score may change in the future, but it's really enjoyable to listen to this collection of remixes and see how different minds interpret the song and warp it into their own sound.
A solid release - a little bit lacking in terms of pure brilliance, but it is still a fun little album with plenty of good tracks. Worth a listen!
A synth heavy pop album with some real nice sounds and fun grooves at times, but an overall struggle to produce a full album that is more than bland. Despite the fact that each track is fairly enjoyable in itself, the whole album does begin to feel monotonous towards the latter half. It's a nice listen, but perhaps is better suited as filler/background music than an album you listen to intently.
If you ever need reminding of how far Joji has come as an artist, go listen to Pink Season, then listen to this. The amount of maturity and growth he showcases here on Smithereens is incredible, even more so when contrasted with his final Pink Guy work
Seriously impressive, but something just doesn't click on this album. The features feel quite muddled and sometimes unnecessary, and some tracks themselves feel like they detract from the overall listening experience. Saying that, it is still a fairly enjoyable album to listen to and there are certainly some highlights to be found throughout.
Another brilliant album by Loyle, bringing attention to a multitude of issues in a way that remains calm yet confrontational and angry. A stunning piece of work
A totally fine album, if also unspectacular. As my first listen of a full Cardigans album, it was a decent introduction :)
Its good, but I guess I just don't understand the love for this album. It didn't strike me as anything mind-blowing, just a relatively solid album from beginning to end. Perhaps with more listens that'll change, but for now it scores in the 70s for me
A short yet entirely beautiful release. I preferred the funkier tracks to the more soulful ones personally, but still a solid LP from Gabriels
Not bad, the quality is consistent throughout and there isn't necessarily a 'bad' song on the album. Saying that however, I myself found it to be quite bland and unexciting - whilst sounding nice it just didn't do anything to draw me in, it just sounded like any another indie pop album. I can understand why people enjoy this album, but to me it left me feeling quite underwhelmed and disappointed
