this? an 82??? this is easily one of the best goddamned noise rock albums ever made. hell, i didn’t even know it was gonna be an emo album (most of the noise rock stuff i’ve listened to isn’t) but its just such a beautiful blend of music. am i biased because i absolutely love these genres? maybe. i think if i made music i would want to make it sound like this. i really just cant stop listening to this. and i say this about a lot of albums (and i mean it every time), but ... read more
this is easily one of the most fun albums ive ever heard. the production is executed perfectly. danny brown and jpegmafia might be the best duo ive ever heard in music. so much replay value. there is so much shit going on in this album and i love it.
these live recordings are incredible. i love the way they just take their songs and improvise the hell out of them using some of my favorite of their techniques and sounds (mellow synths, engine-like drum and bass sections, damo just doing his thing, and the perfectly improvised guitar-led sections)
also i think this album cover captures the sound so much better. the idea is so ordinary at first thought, but the more you look at it the more off it seems. the dull colors, the unclear shapes, ... read more
whenever i listen to this i wish it doesn’t end (this is one of the few albums i can relisten to back to back and never get bored). i like how far fetched this album can get while still being very relevant and consistent. its comforting.
i have no idea why this band isn't talked about more. this album is extremely consistent, memorable, and has some really nice tones/textures throughout. even the slow interludes do a lot for this album. i love the way they think; everything just kind of makes sense (so much that this is almost the only thing i have been listening to for the past 2 weeks). its oddly comforting. very glad i found this band.
im probably going to be overcritical in this review because i expect a lot from swans. i know i havent let this simmer as much as i should have yet, but i wanted to write about some points before this album possibly really clicks.
this album is really ambitious (obviously). but at times it can feel dull and overdone. because of this i think there are much less negatives to talk about within the fist half.
the first three songs are kind of unusual for swans, but set a strong, promising ... read more
although this project can lack direction be outright boring at times, mogwai creates atmospheres only bands like godspeed can make at their finest. this carries lots of memorable and reflective moments that drive me to come back to this album even after just hours of hearing it. i strongly recommend if you like post-rock (but if you don't you will probably fall asleep within the first few songs)
how the hell is swans so good at making music?? how do you just create something like this? you cannot listen to something like a piece of the sky and tell me a human made that. this album is impressively intentional with its dynamics and overall blends its sounds and atmospheres in some of the best ways this band has ever done (and that is saying a lot)
surprisingly good shoegaze ep that doesn't really try hard to stand out. it seems that they wanted to stick to a classic shoegaze sound and they nailed it. it took a while to realize, but this is very solid stuff. 100% check this out if you like bands like mbv and slowdive.
i kinda listened to this album on a whim with 40 minutes to spare. i really had no idea what i was getting into.
close to the edge is an absolute masterpiece that somehow keeps getting better even when you think it cant anymore. although perhaps starting as if this were just another prog rock track, the title track increasingly captures your attention, throwing some of the best melodies and riffs ever heard in music like its nothing. being recorded in 1972 i was surprised to hear the “i ... read more
this album probably doesn’t have the most impressive music but lou reed gives it a charm no other album has
this is such an unbelievably underrated album made by an unbelievably underrated band. this album encompasses pretty much everything i love about shoegaze and alt rock and crushes it together to create a heavy, dusty, and noisy, yet beautiful and euphoric sound. and like any great shoegaze album, this cover is incredible and illustrates the sound of this album very well. i wish this album and band had more recognition.
this is such a hidden gem. i have listened to this album an unhealthy amount of times. such an interesting, addictive, noisy, crushing, heavy, beautiful album.
edit: i wasn't kidding. almost my entire spotify top played songs was this album
this is the album i think of when i hear anything remotely heavy. its like boris slapped me in the face
it amazes me how they made the title track in the same time period as any of the other songs
i wonder how they even recorded half of stuff in this album. its like nothing i’ve ever heard. i really like the feeling this album gives, and i definitely see this growing on me even more in the future. i think i like this more than lift your skinny fists. this album just seems a lot more interesting and memorable and more fitting to what i like. theres so many parts that just completely captured my attention, like the siren part in the dead flag blues and the extremely atmospheric and ... read more
