It's the zoomer Get Up Kids!
In my fantasy alternate universe, Origami Angel is the biggest rock band in the world. That's how fucking good I think their songs are.
This replaced Mest's "Wasting Time" as my favorite pop-punk record of all time. Nearly flawless. Seeing them perform it live on the anniversary tour cemented it for me.
I've heard their 2013 album "The Greatest Generation" referred to as a genre-defining work, and the best of their career, but I'm not quite there yet. I think this one is better.
I can't give it a 100 yet...I've only known of it for half a year...but eventually it probably gets there.
All killer no filler...wire to wire, this thing absolutely ravages. Great songs, technical brilliance, hard-hitting lyrical themes cleverly delivered. Capstan is one of those bands I always hear "why aren't they bigger?" and I can't figure it out either. Maybe someday.
In a very strong year, this is easily the 2021 AOTY.
The crazy is what ended this band, but it's also what makes this record so special.
This album is too long, and it's a slow grower, but it's really good. Yeah, synths and fake drums are boring, but it's about the songs. And the songwriting is otherworldly. I find myself doing the beatlehead every time I listen to it.
