This is actually kinda good. I mean, it still isn't great, and I would still say it's below average, but after the shitshow that was Revival, this is certainly a step in the right direction. Hell, even after such disasters as Encore, Relapse and Recovery, this is certainly his best work in a while (if you don't include Marshall Mathers 2, that is).
I was actually quite surprised with how much I enjoyed much of the first batch of tracks here. Most of tracks 1-8 are genuinely some of the best ... read more
This album is bad. It's really bad. This is the kind of album that you listen to and you question whether the artist ever actually made anything that was worth listening to. This is the kind of album that you listen to and you ask "Was he ever as good as I thought he was?" This is an album that I can only listen to once, because I can't begin to stomach even the thought of listening to this a second time. I would much prefer to listen to Encore, Relapse and Recovery on an endless loop ... read more
Huh. This is actually surprisingly good. If Eminem consistently released records like this then maybe his fans wouldn't have gave up on him so soon.
While I don't like this anywhere near as much as some of his previous work - namely the first Marshall Mathers LP and The Slim Shady LP - I do definitely think that this is a breath of fresh air. After so much shit thrown at us with the previous three records, hearing Em actually return to how he was in his glory days is really refreshing. This is ... read more
This is my first time listening to Opeth, and I find myself fairly conflicted on how to feel. I feel like overall it has great moments, but this does feel like a bit of a drag sometimes and some of the choices the band took are questionable.
For one thing, I have to say that I really like the mix of progressive and death metal here. It's something that has always intrigued me and one of the reasons why I like bands like Gojira as much as I do. It's a mix that works more often than not, and ... read more
When I was a kid and a still a fan of Eminem, this was one of the few albums of his that I bought on CD. I still remember buying it: I was so excited. At the time I only owned and listened to Slim Shady LP and The Eminem Show, and had heard pretty much the rest of his discography at the time, only I somehow avoided Encore and Relapse entirely. Recovery was one that I had only heard the singles for, and at the time I loved them all. I bought this album in anticipation for Marshall Mathers 2, ... read more
A short but sweet EP which stays entertaining throughout, but doesn't leave much in terms of impact. While it isn't going for much, MDP Anross does give us a fun six minute long project which definitely stays enjoyable for its full duration. But at the same time I do think this is something that falls into the background. There isn't much really demanding the listener's attention, and more times than not I found myself not giving it my full focus.
Furthermore, I did think that certain songs ... read more
How can I be a metal fan when I've never listened to a full album from one of the most famous metal bands of the '80s? I mean, obviously I've heard the big songs, but I've never actually sat down and listened to a full album from them. Well, it's time to fix that!
Right off the bat, I was quite shocked to find out that Iron Maiden's debut album - also one of their most famous releases - doesn't actually feature their most famous vocalist, Bruce Dickinson. Instead, we have Paul Di'Anno. This ... read more
Genuine question: How can something be underrated when there is more positivity shown towards it than negativity? Seriously, scroll through the reviews. There's more 70+ ratings calling this underrated than there are actual negative reviews. And there's also far more high ratings than low ratings. How is this underrated at all?
While it may not be as difficult to listen to as Encore, in my eyes this album gets really close to stooping down to that one's level. This is easily the most boring ... read more
This large dip in quality between The Eminem Show and this is so obvious and unignorable that I don't understand how there are actually people out there who like this.
There are people who would have you believe that this album actually has one or two songs that hold up as some of the best Eminem has written. Some of these examples would be Like Toy Soldiers and Mockingbird. Despite what people would have you believe, these songs are trashy compared to much of what came in his previous albums. ... read more
Top 10 questions science STILL can't answer - HOW THE HELL DID 10 YEAR OLD ME THINK SUPERMAN WAS A GOOD SONG, LET ALONE THE BEST EMINEM SONG?!?!?
Out of all the Eminem albums released during his golden years, I had hoped that THIS would be the one that would hold up the most. Back when I was actually a fan of Em, this was my favourite album from him. This was one of the first albums I had heard which I considered to be perfect. Returning to it now... let's just say that this isn't all that ... read more
Depression is something that, unfortunately, many of us endure. Today, there are more people who suffer with depression than ever. This is definitely an album that's aimed for those people. If you are someone who is fortunate enough to have never felt depressed, you may end up slapping this with an 'overrated' tag just because you don't understand it (or you just want attention for being different). But those of us who have actually gone through similar feelings as Uboa - feelings of ... read more
This is definitely an on-and-off album for me. Although every time I listen to this I like it, I sometimes think that this is better than Slim Shady LP, other times I think it's worse. In the end, I'm settling on it being better, and quite possibly Eminem's best.
The Marshall Mathers LP is easily Em's best written album to date. Most of the tracks presented here are tracks you think of when you think of great Eminem songs, and it has something for every one of his fans. You want silly Em? ... read more
Take notes Tomb Mold, because THIS is how you make a great death metal album in 2019.
I don't think I have ever heard an album that has both disgusted me and impressed me so much. This album is so fucking brutal and disgusting. Listening to this album feels like you're rolling around in a puddle of mud, blood, and guts. Listening to this makes me want to stand in the shower for a few hours. THIS is what I expect from death metal, not the mediocrity that was Tomb Mold (which I'm only mentioning ... read more
This album took a while for me to decide whether or not I liked it as much as I hoped I would. I feel like on my initial listen I kinda forced myself to like it as much as everyone else just out of over-excitement after reading so many great reviews about it. But even after that listen I wasn't quite sure of it. Now that I've given it a few more listens, I honestly think this is very overhyped.
Caligula is an album that, when it's good, it can be extremely good; even amazing at times! But, ... read more
This album honestly needs so much more attention...
As my first venture into the blackened doom metal genre, Burial In The Woods' debut has left a great first impression on me. This is an album that, although I liked it on the first listen, the more I listened to it the more I loved it. This was an album that I listened to a lot more than I had originally planned to. This is an album that just keeps on giving as it progresses; as you listen to it more and more, as you spend more and more time ... read more
I'm sorry to be the one to bring down the average user score, but this is easily one of the least impressive and least interesting death metal albums I've ever heard. It isn't bad, but it isn't all that great either. It's caught dead in the middle.
This is the first time I've listened to anything Tomb Mold have put out, and, if I'm honest, they haven't done much to convince me to check out the rest of their catalog. Sure, there's some really, REALLY good moments on here, but as a whole, this ... read more
Okay, maybe I was a bit too quick to discredit Eminem, because this album is still great. Not as good as I remember, but still really good.
Most people consider this to be his actual debut, but I actually consider Infinite to be the debut (because it is), so, considering just how bad I thought that album was, this is a fantastic sophomore project. Every single problem I had with Infinite has been fixed here. The production is consistently great; the beats are brilliant all throughout; the ... read more
When she said "I'm a pig," I felt that.
I actually attempted to listen to this, and I don't know why. I finished the first track before stopping myself because I was laughing too much at my own stupidity. It doesn't help at all that I listened to this directly after listening to the new Tomb Mold album.
Okay, this isn't awful. This is a very inoffensive kids album. But, goddammit, it's fucking bad. It just isn't for my ears.
How the fuck...? Why?! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS?!
Everyone's out here telling me that this is the most underrated album from them just because Fantano gave it a 5, and I'm telling you that this by far the most overrated thing I've heard from this band. It's not awful - it's not even close to being bad! - but it's just so bland and samey and is EXACTLY THE SAME AS THEIR PREVIOUS RELEASE! That alone makes it the weakest and most overrated thing that Godspeed You have released up to this ... read more
I don't think I've ever been more confused on whether an album is terrible or just a misunderstood masterpiece.
This was an album that really did not sit well with me on the first attempt. That first listen is definitely a hurdle you need to pass to find any sort of enjoyment out of it. I definitely struggled through it, and when it finished I was certain that it would end up being a 2 or 3/10. And yet there was a certain charm to it. Something that stopped me from giving it a low score and ... read more
