Well, this isn't exactly bad, but this is just... eh...
At the beginning of the record, I was pretty surprised. So many people here were giving it low scores and saying this was one of the worst projects either person ever worked on, and while I can't speak on Czarface (this is my first time listening to one of his albums), I thought that the first few tracks were better than a lot of what Doom has been giving us with the past couple of albums. But as the album went on, it became clearer and ... read more
This is easily the weakest project from Doom. I think that in terms of enjoyment, this was much more entertaining than Born Like This. However, this is easily the most forgettable record I've heard from Doom. I had fun with this, but I came out with absolutely nothing. I can barely even remember the sound of any of the songs here. This whole album was just nothing.
I will say that this album started out really, REALLY strong. Guv'nor, Banished, Bite The Thong and Rhymin' Slang are all really ... read more
I'm sorry, but I do not like this anywhere near as much as anyone else here. While I did like this album (hence the fairly high rating I gave it), most people consider this to be one of Doom's best projects. I think this is by far his worst.
For the first time in Doom's discography, I was not interested in this record in the slightest. I thought there were a lot of good moments, like most of the first half. But as it progressed I found that these great moments were far too few, and I ended up ... read more
This is far from being my favourite Doom album, but it's still a solid release.
This is an album that I feel really had potential to be one of the best in Doom's discography. The flows here are just as great as always, and at times even better than a lot of what he has done before. Songs like Sofa King really show off what Doom is capable of. Also, the features here are really good for the most part. While I didn't really like Talib Kwell, I think that most everyone else did their part very ... read more
To be honest, this is a pretty mixed album. At its best, it has some of the best songs in Doom's entire discography. But at its worst, it has some of the most boring songs in Doom's discography.
When this album started, I was sure that this would be the one to rival Madvillainy for me. That project is still my favourite thing that Doom has worked on, and nothing else I've heard from him has come close to that quality yet. The first few track really gave me hope that this would be the album ... read more
This may be Doom's weakest project, but this is severely underrated. Regardless of its flaws, this is still a really enjoyable hip-hop record.
This may be a bit of an underrated opinion, but, as much as I loved his other album released under Viktor Vaughn and think it's even better than this one, I do think that the beats here are far more consistent and even better than a lot of what was on Vaudeville Villain. A big reason why I didn't like that release as much as the other I've heard from ... read more
Vaudeville Villain is probably MF Doom's darkest release yet, and it's still just as good as everything else I've heard from him. I can't say that I love this as much as most people here do, but it's still a great outing nonetheless.
Doom's lyrics and performance is easily one of the best I've heard from him yet. His flows here are definitely what really makes this album stand out as one of his best works yet and really elevated a lot of these songs to the point where I fell in love with them. ... read more
While I still think that Take Me To Your Leader is overall another good project to come from Doom, I do think that this is the weakest that I've heard from him. As its own album, it is really, really good. But when you take into consideration the album that came before this, this is really underwhelming.
In terms of what I liked about this album, the production is just as good as always. Everything that I've heard from Doom so far has had production that is nothing short of great, and this ... read more
While Operation: Doomsday didn't leave as big of an impression on me as Madvillainy - the first Doom project I've heard - this is still an amazing debut and is definitely a great introduction into Doom's solo work.
It's surprising that a 19 track album can be as consistently intriguing as this. This record kept my attention for the entire duration, which isn't something that happens too much with this genre. All of these songs had fantastic beats and even better flows performed by Doom ... read more
I do love me some Loop Zoop.
This is one of those album where it's impossible not to mention its influences. This album is so unoriginal that it's downright impossible for me not to talk about how this sounds just like a certain rock band from the 1970s. I really tried to listen to this as if it's its own thing, but whenever I tried to actually give this my full focus I just found that I hated it. This genuinely sounds like a Led Zeppelin album that was locked away in the vault because the ... read more
I haven't heard anything from either artist involved so I don't have anything to compare this with, but this is actually a really good album. This is definitely a really good rap album which has some of the best hip-hop songs to come from this year.
Most of the second half of this record is just great rap song after great rap song. I feel like if this whole album was just tracks seven through seventeen, then I would have liked this album a hell of a lot more than I actually did. There were a ... read more
Eh. This is just more 2010s Korn but without the great instrumentation of the rest of the members.
You know, I kind of like Korn. They are a band that started off making some really good work. While I don't think anything in their catalog is amazing, I do like to come back to their early works every now and then. Their 90's albums are genuinely good, and they made quite a few good songs in the 2000s too. Considering how long the band had been running, it came as no surprise to me when I found ... read more
A pretty good debut, but I don't really care for this too much. There's a lot that is good about this project, but it just isn't all that interesting to me.
Immortal Bird's debut album is without question a good one. I was honestly surprised at just how great the screaming here is, and good god the instrumentation here is amazing at times. I feel like the last couple of tracks in particular really showed off what the drummer could do, and all throughout the guitarist really proved that he was ... read more
Death end their career on a really high note. This is easily one of the best final albums that I've heard come from metal.
Goddamn, do the instrumentals steal the show on this one! I've made it no secret that I'm a sucker for good instrumentation, and these guys certainly exceeded my expectations on that front for every single one of their albums, and this one is no exception. The drumming in particular, good god, it's fucking amazing. While I was just as amazed by the guitar work, the ... read more
This is the peak of death metal right here. I cannot see anything else from this sub-genre ever surpassing this. This is easily Death's masterpiece.
From beginning to end, this album pummels you with insane drumming and exceptional guitar work. The guitar solos on this thing... wow. I don't even know where to begin. Death are one of those bands where I always commend them for their phenomenal guitar playing, and here I believe they show it off more than ever. Every one of these songs have a ... read more
Sure, this album may just be a continuation of Human and have very little changes in sound, but that doesn't mean it's any less great.
So far, I think Individual Thought Patterns is one of the best outings in Death's discography. While I do think Human is still better, that is mainly because of the fact that this is so similar to that album that at times it felt like I was just listening to Human again. However, this has a lot of moments that I can safely say are better than what was ... read more
Holy shit. This is the best I can see this sub-genre getting, and I'm not even at Death's most famous album yet. Jesus, this thing is amazing.
I know I'm throwing that word around a lot lately, especially with Death, but I just can't help it. This band in particular is so good at what they do. I never expected to be a fan of this type of music. Even though metal is one of my go-to genres, I never thought I'd ever actually care about this specific sub-genre. And here I am now, hooked on this ... read more
This is easily the weakest album I've heard from Death yet, and it's still a good album that is definitely worth the listen.
While it's less consistent than everything they released before, Spiritual Healing still has it's deal of great tracks and even better moments. I feel like most of my love towards this album comes from very specific parts that occur in every single track. I could talk about every single track individually and state that one part in them that made me like said track more ... read more
Would it be an unpopular opinion if I said that I prefer this to Scream Bloody Gore? While both albums are absolutely brilliant, the instrumentation on Leprosy is far superior to much of what was on Scream Bloody Gore.
This album, man... I don't even know what to say. Right from the get-go, this blew me away. The opening title track was easily the best song I've heard from these guys so far (I know that I've heard basically nothing from them so far, but Jesus Christ). That song was so brutal, ... read more
Death are perhaps the most famous and important bands in death metal. Now that I'm starting to go through their discography, I can definitely say that their debut has impressed me a lot.
For what I think is the first time since I started listening to death metal, I actually like the vocals. Usually I either don't care for them or I just have to tolerate them, but here I actually enjoyed listening to these growls. I don't know if that's just me growing to like this type of singing, or if the ... read more
