They really did something different on this album. The combination of the unique, thick atmosphere combined with the absolutely masterful sense of pacing and detail makes this an experience like nothing else. It leaves you wondering about concepts and trying to understand or find something similar, which you’ll never be able to do. Genius album. Also, no musician has ever screamed like John Balance did on It’s In My Blood.
I certainly hope this isn’t the finished version of the album, because this is total shitsnail. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong on this album went wrong. To start, the context of this albums existence really didn’t help it; Kanye was still in an arguably more awful and repugnant period of his life back in 2018 and still managed to come through with 2 albums that touched on that while still aging well as their own albums. But this album just basks in his current ... read more
Goes harder lyrically and instrumentally than both of the last two albums combined but simultaneously feels pretty damn long-winded and doesn’t deliver on its themes in as meaningful a way as the last two albums. Still, hard to say no to an album of banger Tyler tracks regardless.
Most of this record is top tier music. But there’s a couple of tracks that are good, but I don’t really see myself going back to ever. I think the themes here can get muddled sometimes, but the sheer strength of the songwriting and production makes this a modern classic.
Gorgeous record, probably one of the most thematically well-constructed hip hop records of all time, with awesome production to back it up. Everything just sounds right, and it has his best song ever, Garden Shed. That said it falls off *just a little bit* in the last 4 tracks with the exception of November.
This album is definitely really ambitious and I’m happy that Flylo’s still making music but unfortunately to me this one is quite iffy. It feels kind of like he was taking the UTTQC sound and mixing it with a lot more psychedelia, soul, and funk influences, and that’s a great idea on paper. But I feel like a lot of this album just hasn’t really hit for me yet. For every fantastic song (Post Requisite, Takashi, Black Balloons Reprise, Fire Is Coming) there’s a song ... read more
This album is kind of supposed to be listened to with a lot of tracks at once, given that a lot of them are very short. That said, I love the way Flylo fully commits to the jazz and even experimental rock influences that shape this entire album. It does kind of fall off a bit after Descent Into Madness (go figure), but the high points of this album are transcendently good so it all evens out ultimately. Probably the most mature and realized album of Flylo’s vision as an artist.
Honestly I don’t understand why people underrate this one so much compared to Flylo’s other music. I think the really minimal, stripped back sound works wonders. It’s the perfect album to listen to a lot during transitional periods in your life, it has a really regal yet psychedelic atmosphere that feels unmatched by anything else.
From the second you hit play you are immediately dropped headfirst into a sea of the best sounds you’ve ever heard. This album takes influences from literally everything from classical to avant-garde jazz to hip hop. It all feels so cosmic and unlike anything else you’ve ever heard. My favorite electronic music album of all time.
This is one of the most insane and creative instrumental hip hop albums I’ve ever heard. As a producer myself, IDK how he even created like half of these sounds. It sounds like the inside of a giant star-sized alien beast’s stomach. This album sounds like how Foam Runners look.
It’s a pretty decent beat tape and the title track is a must listen but it’s nowhere near his other stuff.
Takes the already amazing sound of their first album in new, more experimental directions. It’s really too bad that what happened happened.
Potentially the best-produced album of all time. It sounds like it was recorded in an abandoned war bunker. Which really enhances the already incredibly stark, minimalistic, and grim songwriting at use here.
Probably my favorite Radiohead album. Feels like the real culmination of their entire career and is such a haunting experience to get through. There’s so much raw emotion put into this album, which is really complimented by the absolutely lush orchestral arrangements.
There’s so much amazing music here. Haters stay mad. The drums and rhythms on this album are just straight up perfect.
This is the album where Radiohead started just straight up making artsy alt-pop kinda stuff and honestly it’s just really pretty and easy to vibe out to in like, any scenario. Really good music even if the second half is a little less good than the first.
I feel like this is probably one of the most energetic and climactic albums in Radiohead’s discography and also so many of their most under-discussed songs like Myxomatosis are from here. Very different album for them but it works.
