I would like to give Drake credit for something people always complain about. I hear a lot of people calling Drake someone bad to work with, because he doesn't credit and uses other artists to work in his shadow. That might be true partly, but then again 'More Life' wasn't the first time Drake uses his Platform to showcase other talented artists and credit them. He did it before, but on here that's literally the heart of the whole project. Maybe he didn't bring on ... read more
Views. So everytime I look at that album cover I think about one quote.
"Do you climb the tower for you to see the world or for the world to see you?"
People say Drake sold out with this album. That he climbed the tower for the world to see him.
Maybe. But if he did he sold for a high price, because its just packed with bangers. Drake tried new sounds and I think he doesn't get credited enough for that. Really good summer songs and some hard hitting trap cuts mixed in a album ... read more
Drake using that aesthetic Future was known for, for IYRTITL led to their Collab in the same year.
And 2015 was indeed a great time to be alive.
But this record isn't one of the major reasons.
You get pretty generic, while still good trap beats with the exception of a few tracks plus some solid performences by both artists.
Well unless the times you don't. This record is pretty much about inconsistency and boring moments but still some bangers. Also they don't have the most ... read more
Long time I had it behind 'Nothing was the same' but if you're reading this it's too late, it's my second favorite Drake album now.
A spacey dark Trap sound is just something I really like and if you ignore the interludes this is definitely the most consistent Drake album to date and even including the interludes, it's still the most cohesive next to 'Take Care'.
On IYRTITL Drake really snaps on the lyrical side and he has some great flows and melodies ... read more
Everything was the same after this album, but...
Drake's 3rd album brings a completely new sound, inspired by the one and only Ye. The textures are warmer and Drake has more rapping on here than before. While there is real good standouts here, with amazing lyricism and rapping, there is also a few bland songs and your usual melodic Drake Songs.
W for pushing Sampha btw Aubrey.
The most Majestic Lightskin Album made by a Jew
This is a re-review and what was once one of my favorite albums of all time has grown off me a bit because of the filler it undeniably has.
While Drake sounds better than ever on here and the production took a big leap since his debut, this project has some more boring cuts and can't hold the level of some really great songs like Headlines or Marvin's Room.
I do like Drake singing and I do like him rapping, but some of the songs are ... read more
I'm back with a Drake record. And after finding his own sound on his debut mixtape, his debut LP goes more Pop than before. Its catchy, it shows Drake's talent and really good production almost all over the tape. However the pacing is not ideal, but most of the songs itself are pretty solid. It's more polished than the debut mixtape but it just sounds a little too commercial, even that early in his career. Over is one of his best ever songs btw.
With calling themselves 'The Infamous' they mean they are having a very bad reputation or being well-known for evil acts, scandals, or shameful behavior.
In a nutshell that is exactly how this gritty street record sounds. Amazing.
Next to Barter 6 (that sounds pretty differently actually) probably the best project by prime Young Thug. The only thing that is sad to see, is that I feel like Young Thug doesn't have his one masterpiece, well especially universally acknowledged masterpiece.
Why? Because Thug is so unique and such a legend who made so many amazing songs and even a few really great projects, that he could have made an album that is on the level of a Rodeo. As an artist I have Thug over Future for example.
My most ambitious series starts today. I will try to review Drake's entire Discography this month.
First of all, I am not one of these senseless Drake or Kendrick haters, so I will just try to enjoy the music.
Now, this tape showcases Drake's melodic approach to rap. Drake is definitely good at that and as someone who grew up with a lot of Drake I do like his style. What instantly made me interested more in the record, was the atmospheric & hazy production that you get from the ... read more
I love 070 Shake's vocals and some of the production choice for the spacey futuristic trip they tried to implement. But in general the record just doesn't really move anywhere. Nice moments of 070 Shake and the atompsheric production, but also some empty moments. The record never really build up enough momentum to tell a whole story, but it still sounds really good when the things come together as they should.
The Fugees are a trio playing in different leagues.
We have one legendary artist.
A really good artist.
And one that can't hold the level of his peers.
But together they seemingly can make really good music.
However this project is kinda hit or miss. There is no clear sound for the entire project, which is a bit sad to see as I loved the unique dark sound a few songs like How Many Mikes' and 'Ready or Not' had. The soulful tracks have really good cuts too, but I'm just ... read more
The best world building RZA did production wise with any record, even a bit better in that regard than 36 Chambers.
While 4th Chamber is my fav Wu Tang Song there are a few weaker songs that haven't grown on me enough yet to give it 100. But the sound of this project is so damn cold and cinematic.
For a guy that calls himself 'The Notorious B.I.G.' he doesn't seem very big on the cover.
Oh nvm I looked him up. He was Notorious indeed.
I like the atmosphere but I expected a bit more. He's rapping smooth and the beats, while chill are kinda basic most of the time and especially in the beginning very similar to each other.
One of the weirdest and outright most disgusting album covers there is. But somehow it's so cool...
'Maggot Brain' as a title also sounds raw and uncensored. In the album concept it can be interpreted as "tasting the maggots in the mind of the universe".
Moreover the term "Maggot Brain" seems to be inspired by George Clinton discovering his brother’s body after his death, which gives it an even darker meaning. Also during the recording of the album ... read more
Isiah is coming back smooth and laid back.
But...
It's definitely a let down looking at a 5 year hiatus.
However, the writing on many songs is his best probably since the Sun's Tirade.
Sonically, while being what some might call timeless, I would rather call it more of the same old, as now for me the moment happened where I am fed up with this Isiah Rashad style.
My biggest problem is that this is just more of the same stuff be put out in the last years. It's solid lol fi ... read more
This album creates a beautiful soundscape that reminds me of a modern city with neon lights.
Yes, it's long, but it doesn't have a lot of filler.
Midnight City is top 10 Late Night Drive songs oat.
Yves Tumor is an interesting artist and he is not ur regular rock artist at all.
While this project has really good ideas it ends up being a bit too messy and unfinished in its idea.
With how much the production is typically my thing in rock this rating just shows that there was even more potential to me.
Doggystyle...they could have also named it Dog Style, duh.
As the cover and title suggests Doggystyle is just stylish and fun all the way. It will forever blast in the whip in summer with the windows down. That's why it's an all time great.
