I'm here for my series where I want to find all the real classics in hip hop. And I'm definitely right de la Soul.
Production is very creativ but the rapping is not the best. Overall a bit overrated, but good.
Now the question that remains: is it a certified classic?
For my series where I want to find all the real classics in hip hop we are back with Beastie Boys' black brothers.
This album has a similar fun group hip hop style and some great production by- again - Rick Rubin. I feel like their music ages a bit better, but also not perfectly. The flows are simple but at least they have chemistry and I also like their voices more than those of the beastie boys. It's pretty cohesive but also doesn't have too many standouts, pretty good tape ... read more
For my series where I want to find all the real classics in hip hop this was one of the first that came to mind for the 80s. Beastie Boys, especially this record, was very successful and pushed hip hop to a commercial sphere it didn't had before.
This album combines a fun attitude towards hip hop and some great production by Rick Rubin. The style of Beastie Boys, while outdated, promises a fun time. They don't have amazing flows but at least chemistry. Not my style of hip hop but ... read more

Album #61, 2010s, Emo Rap
An album that will later define what the next years of 2010s and early 2020s will sound like. The Soundcloud Emo Rap / Cloud Rap infused Lane will become very popular especially by Gen Z. This album is definitely underrated as Lil Peep fits what the genre stand for. Beats are ethereal/atompsheric, melancholic and depressive while combining cloud trap ... read more

Album #60, 2010s, Synthpop
I really enjoy this record. The atmosphere is melancholic and never simple constructed while still being catchy. The multiple layers of vocals and instrumentation add to the experience a ton and fit Lorde perfectly. While I had my problems with whispering in music in the past, this is one of these releases where it is used to fit the vibe and it ... read more

Album #59, 2010s, Art Pop
This record is undeniably weird. It's haunting, it's surreal and it has me between goosebumps and genuine moments of feeling uncomfortable. No hablo español bien, por eso no puedo entenderlo. It's impressive but not a jam...it just doesn't taste good without psychosis.
She's a good vocalist but doesn't shine as much on here as she could have. For a vocalist of her scale she is whispering too much instead of leaning into her talents. Production is super solid too but just not fully my vibe. It's definitely very enjoyable as it's just feel good summer/spring music for the most part. Solid record.

Album #58, 2010s, Grime
I loved the Dizzie Rascal Project, but I think Skepta put him in his shadow ngl. Skepta continues to push a growing UK Grime Scene forward with this dark street focused record. The bars are great and the production is pushing boundaries. What a great tape. UK Rap is criminally underrated.

Album #57, 2010s, Psychedelic Pop
The album sounds like it's cover. It's just such a great sound, it sounds clean but also like everything is meshing together. The production is just so good and this is definitely a modern classic. Sometimes it sounds too cold/distant maybe imo, but that's what makes the sound so distinct as well. I've given this 100 ... read more

Honestly if this was called To Pimp a Butterfly it would get a score of 95. Oh well it is...
Kendrick Lamar is an amazing lyricist without question. He is one of the only ones that can make a concept album and follow through with a cohesive tracklist. I think at some points here Kendrick falls into the same problems I have with some Billy Woods ... read more

Album #54, 2010s, Industrial
If this album was a person it would be locked up for multiple counts of assault.
But it's not, so it's just very creative hard hitting industrial hip hop. While I'm not fully warm with the rapping, it does work here well. And to the production I can only say it's amazing, they were really pushing it to close the point ears ... read more

Album #53, 2010s, Vaporwave
I have no idea (Don Toliver mentioned) who this artist is, but this is some solid experimental genre bending. I like the chopped and screwed influence on the vocals especially. While the cover is ass, I find the world building to be very solid. Thats because the atmospheric soundscape works very well with the psychedelic elements to creat a world. ... read more

Some of the best Cloud Rap Songs oat. Truly a special project that brings swag and being high together, as if it was the same thing.

I never knew I would become such a huge The Weekend fan. His hits like Blinding lights were never my thing (except Starboy) but when I listened to HUT & After Hours started to realize what I was missing out on. He isn't just a great feature artists, he can build whole worlds and this is where he does it for the first time on the large ... read more
What if Kanye never dropped out? Would music be the same?
I guess we'll never know...
The only album I was missing from Kanye's discography and this is one of this best. On late reg Kanye swaps out the warm & fun summer vibes for a cleaner, a little bit colder soundscape, by incorporating more Orchestral sounds. Kanye and all his wisely chosen features rip apart these beats like it's northing. Amazing performences on amazing beats all over the album. Definetly an ... read more

These 4 tracks are in the upper echelon of the whole album.. Was he trolling? Like yeah I really think they are in the top 15.
