Never had an album hook me as quickly as this one with that opening monologue.
Fuck this album is an experience to remember.
I can sort of see why people like this so much. It’s something different that has the potential to shake up the metal landscape due to its uniqueness.
Issue for me is the actual part that makes this standout, the ‘thrall’ bends/distortions sound BAD. It sounds like moaning and it is obnoxious and weird. I can’t focus on anything else because the artist is keen on putting this noise in as many times as possible instead of putting it in naturally to flow with the ... read more
It’s neat, but I don’t really get a lot from this genre of mixing Djent with electronic music as I find it kinda boring. However, there is enough here where I can find some enjoyment from it.
Guy can play bass, no doubt about it. Beyond my enjoyment of the music, this guy is really talented and I appreciate his skill. If you are into Animals as Leaders or Polyphia, this is for you.
For me, I’m not a huge fan of the zoomer writing of instrumental rock music. It feels a bit artificial.
It’s a deathcore album, a satire of one anyways.
Holy SHIT the vocals are bad. Some of the worst growls I have heard in a while.
It really does frustrate me how bland this is.
It’s ‘fine’ in a typical sense, but compared to literally any other album she had made, this is bland, generic mush that has the depth of a puddle.
The most frustrating aspect? She doesn’t need to try, because this album has sold millions of copies and has billions of streams. Why try when you can make something bland with hints to your personal life?
The fans will eat it up anyways.
Can’t let gang know I fw this.
Update: Gang knows I fw this. My social life is ruined.
Album is still great though. 👍
I’m not used to this kind of music, especially the vocals, so it was a very jarring listen for me. However, the mixing and production were so fucking good that it allowed me to enjoy this album quite a lot.
Huh, first guy on this site to review this album. Neat.
Found this while browsing YouTube at 2:00 on the morning. Tend to find the heat that way.
I think the best aspect of this album is also its biggest issue. It sounds hollow, a very oppressive sense of emptiness encompasses this album and it is very thick with this mood. The clean guitars, the clear drums, and the distorted vocals all add to this feeling and it is harrowing, yet beautiful.
That being said, not a lot happens in this album. ... read more
I find it quite strange that critics were so complimentary when Taylor Swift made a splash with her folk/pop stuff, but when Lana did it, it received much more of a lukewarm response.
Especially when the production on this album is so much better compared to Taylor’s recent albums. Sonically, this album SMASHES anything recent Taylor has released.
I think there is a conversation to be had about metal music sounding less like metal every year. While I do not have an issue with this, the music has to sound good and interesting, which is something that hasn’t been happening with these genre combinations.
This album is another example of that.
The second half of this album drops the ball so hard off the face of the earth it’s not even funny. It sucks, because I really liked the singles that came out of this album so to see it ... read more
Technically, the band is very solid, especially for a debut album.
That being said, it sounds like a parody band trying to emulate Dream Theater. So many songs that way to long and moments that are so over the top goofy that it ends up sounding like a joke. I hope I will be able to connect with their later albums because there is stuff I like here, but it needs to be honed in more.
Fun fact: the "C" in crow is actually a T in the Engravers' Old English BT font. So, in reality, the album is called "the mockingbird & THE TROW."

Some songs do kinda blow (Mind's Mirrors), but the album is mostly comprised of absolute bangers.
As a full experience, meaning listening to this as one song, it’s very solid and was the album that finally made me 'get' what Meshuggah is trying to do with their music.
Guys, don’t mess around with Jim, worst mistake of my life.
