This one isn’t nearly as good both sonically and vocally. It just feels weaker, less important, less memorable. All that. Even the drake feature was dull and uninteresting. It’s fine though who cares.
I’m not crazy for this style of both singing and songwriting. But it’s a personal preference. As there is a lot of gold in here. Gold that’s held up nearly 50 years later. So good on you BJ. Give me one later.
I think this album has already proven itself as one of the most important albums of the decade. It really took the sad indie girl image to a whole new level. And the music explains why. It’s super good. The writing is great, phoebe’s voice stands out, and the production ranges from bombastic to quiet and lowkey. I also have to give props to that album cover. Another reason as to why I think this album is now an icon of the 2020’s decade. And will go down as a classic for the ... read more
It’s not as annoying or drawn out as Mellon collie. But that doesn’t make this album great. The instrumentation is certainly good. But it all sounds too familiar to itself. Whereas billy still continues to be one of the worst vocalists in rock. So eh. Pretty eh.
What a stupid album. How does any of this not only work, but come together so good that it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard? I don’t understand it. The guitar riffs are long and basic. Which creates this atmosphere I don’t think I’ve ever been in. Which leads me to the songwriting and vocals. Which are just phenomenal in every aspect. This is a serious hidden gem. And I recommend it to everybody looking for a strange take on folk music.
It’s a solid return to form for these sad boy legends. The main things holding this album back are forgettability and the vocal direction. These vocals don’t really do it for me. I can vibe with them, but not for long. And there’s sadly nothing on here that even compares to something like never meant. But I liked it regardless.
It’s fine, really. Insanely forgettable for the group due to no ride and the instrumentals themselves not jumping out for joy. A very weak showing for one of hip-hop’s most beloved groups.
Tim hecker once again creates a magical, insanely interesting world. But I will say this album doesn’t really reach its peak until the last two songs. Those ones are truly magnificent and absolutely take me to another place entirely. Whereas the beginning can feel a bit less transformative in context.
Back then I’m sure this gave people massive erections. But now, it’s just kind of alright. It’s well put together, I am just bored of the sound it’s going for. I don’t really know how this album stood the test of time and how people can stack it up to their releases later this decade. I just can’t.
Wtf is this. I feel like I should either really love it or really hate it. On one hand, it’s pretentious, it’s boring, it’s annoying. But on the other hand, it’s weirdly charming, beautiful, and somewhat cohesive. So I’m going right down the middle with this album.
This album is an anomaly to me. All I knew going in was my boy remi loves this album. And while I think it’s good, I don’t see what he does in it. Strangely enough, I found the melodic singing mixed with these metal instrumentals to be the best part. When the metal vocals kick in, that’s when I lose interest and that’s when this album in my opinion loses something special. It’s boyish charm.
It’s well made, I just can’t get into grunge. No matter how hard I try. This album is also weirdly very slowly paced. Which makes it less emotionally impactful and more boring and waiting for it to end. I just don’t fw it, despite its huge cult following.
The atmosphere this album creates is nothing short of masterful. It’s not as polished, but weirdly I think that brings me to their world more. It’s dusty, cluttered, but there’s a beauty to that. Also shout out to that album cover I love it so much.
Super raw and insanely hard hitting. People take issue with the vocals but I think they emphasize everything on here. Making everything feel way more sad and pessimistic. A great post punk album.
Nothing about this is original or inventive. It’s just the bare minimum for an indie pop album. Nobody would care about this if pumped up kicks wasn’t here. Skip it. You’re not missing much.
While it may be simple for a cloud rap album, there’s still plenty of bangers. I love kray’s mic presence. He truly brings something special and unique to these cloudy, hazy songs. It’s a match made in Heaven.
Half of this album is stupidly annoying and not all that great. Whereas the other half is so boring and nondescript I actively wondered how they switched up fundamental problems halfway through the album. The production on this album is inoffensive. It’s fine. Who cares. David Byrne’s singing is where this album starts to piss me off. Like it’s so over the top and I just don’t gel with it. He’s like the 80’s white version of teezo touchdown.
