Drake - Take Care
81

As much as drake personally bothers me, I can still admit that this is a great project. I think it’s a modern classic for my generation of rap fans. This album came out when I was 5 so a lot of these songs have a weird amount of nostalgia for me. And they still hold up. I love how versatile drake is on here. Being both fun and entertaining, but also vulnerable and sad. It makes for a dynamic listen that I enjoyed a lot. But this should not be 80 minutes.

This is an album I’ve always held near and dear to my heart. It was definitely the first big, grandiose “concept album” I’ve heard. Each track couldn’t really be played outside the context this album sets up. But I think it’s an awesome concept with some awesome execution. The glitchy, harsh, futuristic soundscape is really awesome and unique. Daveed somehow fits in these beats really well. Wether they’re cold and isolated like the first interlude or ... read more

James Ferraro - Far Side Virtual
79

As a vaporwave experience, I do prefer eccojams due to mainly the atmosphere. This album goes for more of an ambient experience and it leads to the middle completely losing me. Whereas I find it begins and ends quite strong. The samples feel a bit too on the nose too. But as an album, I still found it to be quite good. I just have my little nitpicks.

Fugazi - Repeater
76

Modest mouse if it was angry instead of sad

BROCKHAMPTON - GINGER
78

Keep a gold chain on my dick. This album is very, very frontloaded. Those first three songs are super catchy and well produced. The rest of the album isn’t nearly as memorable though. I love the singing throughout though. It’s super emotive and passionate.

King Krule - Man Alive!
82

Thought this was a greatly depressing album. It’s not even hopeful in tone, writing, or sound. It brought me down to its level and made me sit in the shit it laid out. Which was awesome with how atmospheric the album is.

Mac Miller - Circles
86

An absolutely devastating project. But weirdly makes me feel comforted in how sad it is. It’s not sad for the same reason something like Giles Corey is. It’s sad seeing this troubled, yet optimistic person coping with his feelings after he’s already gone. Rest in piece, mr miller. You’ve changed so many lives.

Harold Budd - Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror
85

While I may prefer ambient 1 for the higher highs it reaches, this album I found more consistent. Each track didn’t blow me away, but they brought me further and further into this atmosphere. It did a great job at formal worldbuilding.

Gorillaz - Demon Days
68

I keep on seeing annoying people wear this album cover on a shirt. So I decided to finally listen to it. And while it’s certainly good, I do think it’s pretty overrated. I just see this album as pretty well made, catchy pop songs with some nice features thrown in there. It’s not groundbreaking. I’m not gonna come back to it often. It’s just a nice album to dance to and nothing else.

Carissa's Wierd - You Should Be at Home Here
93

What a beautiful, colourful album. The production on here is really excellent coupled with insanely good songwriting. I’m always compelled by this band and what they make. Should definitely dive into all their albums.

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
92

A beautifully bizarre album. All the out there ideas come together and create something really, really special and irreplaceable. A definite must listen for anybody.

Tame Impala - InnerSpeaker
78

Unoriginally good. I one hundred percent get the Beatles comparisons. They are very apparent. But the album itself is quite good.

Nirvana - Bleach
50

Very, very average album right here. It is music you can listen to with vocals, production, and pacing. This is the record of all time, I’ll tell you.

Kanye West - Donda
69

This is a really frustrating album to me. It is so close to being great but it falls just short. The obvious Achilles heel is the nearly two hour long runtime. The stupid part 2’s add nothing and should not be here. Some songs are just annoying and not well thought out in the slightest. But other than those, these are some of Kanye’s most soulful and passionate songs since I wanna say tlop. The gospel infused hip hop here is great. The features vary in quality but they are usually ... read more

The biggest crime this album commits is falling off after the first two songs.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming
83

Such a wild and weird pop album. Kate bush really is an inspiration to us all. To make truly incredible pieces of art with no limitations. Sometimes it can go too far and too wild but that’s not always a bad thing. I like the risks taken here. Good job Kate.

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat
73

While it may be incoherent and fucking stupid at points, it’s filled with so much love and fun energy I can’t help but enjoy the ride. I get why people don’t like this, because it’s not great. But you mix some solid production with an interesting personality and you get a pretty solid mixtape.

A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
87

While it is a safe follow up, rocky levels up everything on this album. The flows are relaxed and effortlessly cool, the production is nice and diverse. The features all absolutely kill it. Just a great rap album overall.

Brand New - Deja Entendu
85

Some really powerful and raw emo music. I know the singer is a shitbag but he is really good at writing songs. The production is also really solid. Everything feels so powerful and grand in scope. Some moments I feel are paced too slow and some lyrics have aged horribly with everything coming out about mr brand new but as an album, I think it’s a great listen.

JID - The Forever Story
91

Just an insanely consistent and high quality release from JID. He’s came a long way and this will stand as his magnum opus. He may surpass it, but this will always be his most important release.
