What The Life Of Pablo was trying for with gospel, “Awaken, My Love!” has succeeded at with funk and soul. It is not an antique car with a new paint job, but the redesigned Challenger, a work of modern design that’s damn proud of its heritage, and it offers a beautiful ride. Glover has a keen ear for genre idiosyncrasies and Awaken, My Love is full of tiny rewarding details: the pinched surf guitar of California; the squalling organ blasts of the Parliament-Funkadelic-ish ... read more
Excellent songwriting from Toledo. One of the best records of the year.
I love every track except for Sheep. It's not a bad song at all, but it keeps me from giving this a perfect score. Overall, still a really great record from the Pink Floyd prime era.
This is truly one of the best comeback albums of really any bands. In Beyond, Dinosaur Jr produces both the sound that they have always been known for (songs like almost ready, crumble), but we also see a more personal and softened down version of the band. This really is a great reintroduction to the band.
The music's pretty good, but I really struggle to put this album on and listen to it considering how distasteful the name is. Every time I hear it, I throw up a little bit in my mouth. Ween is a fucking memelord for titling it Chocolate and Cheese. It's like the thing where people say "you are now feeling your tongue in your mouth" or "you just realized you can feel all of the hairs on your body" or some of that shit. God damn. Cheese and chocolate? fucking disgusting man
How do you even listen to this? It's not available on spotify
Like srsly how do i give it a good score if i can't hear it
There are some really clever tracks both lyric wise and production wise, but not all 61 songs are like that. It's hard to have 61 bangers in one LP but $uicideboy$ still have a pretty good first LP.
This EP has unfortunately been overshadowed by their other releases. If you are passionate about Modest Mouse, please check out this EP, as it has some awesome live versions of some of their greatest songs.
Sad how underrated this album is, as I feel it is one of their greatest works. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to see past the low ratings; it's just as beautiful to listen to as their other records.
Lots of catchy tunes on this one. Not as intense as the likes of Dear Science or Cookie Mountain, but it certainly is a fun listen with some awesome songs.
we get it bro you're trans in 2016
fuck i didn't mean bro i meant sis
i didn't mean it :(
Pitchfork gave this a 1.6. How do you even calculate that? I understand it's like, bad enough that it's lower than 5.0, but a 1.6? That means that it's not a 1/10- it's better than that, at least! A 2/10? Hell no dude- that's way too generous! 1.5/10? well, it's definitely better than that. C'mon man, give them some credit. But don't be too generous; a 2/10 is really pushing it. A 1.6- that's what it is: a 1.6. This review is just one of many that Ian Cohen has given that is somewhat baffling. ... read more
It took me a little while to realize that this was my favorite Modest Mouse record, but this definitely takes the cake. It's such genuine lyricism from Isaac, aided by perfect melodies and drum beats.
On a side note, the Pitchfork documentary on this album is awesome for any diehard MM fans. It's really cool seeing the thought processes behind the lyrics.
