Deerhunter - Rainwater Cassette Exchange
87

5 Songs. Better than 2 studio albums. Bradford (and Lockett and Josh and Moses), you never cease to amaze me. This EP is good from beginning to end. Game of Diamonds might be one of the most moving songs I've ever heard from Deerhunter. Overall, a really impressive EP.

American Football - American Football
95

Part of the awesome movement that is known as Midwest Emo. Incredibly influential album for the emo scene. Sad that it seems like Ian Cohen is the only acclaimed reviewer who appreciates this album as much as it should be appreciated. Oh well. The new album will almost definitely be not as good as this record, but we can always hope!

Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica
95

Arguably their best release (well, I think anything up to Building Nothing Out of Something is amazing..), The Moon & Antarctica is where Modest Mouse really reflect themselves. This album starts off with 3 incredible songs-3rd Planet, Gravity Rides Everything, Dark Center of the Universe-and it just continues to impress. Not to mention that the album artwork/song titles are awesome as well. Kinda sucks how downhill Modest Mouse fell, but at least we can enjoy this masterpiece of an album.

Frank Ocean - Blonde
92

I'm definitely going to need some more listens to this album to fall in love with it like I did with channel ORANGE, but Frank certainly brings both the awesome sounds we love and know, as well as some new and innovative tracks in addition. Some impressive collabs spruce up the album as well as interesting filler sounds to multiple songs. Overall, Ocean continues to impress me with deep vocals and awesome sounds.

Burial - Untrue
92

I remember seeing somewhere that this album must be listened to while alone or blocked away from surrounding noises, and I completely agree. Untrue captures, in its essence, complex and intrinsic sound that has just been improved from his already near-perfect debut. It is easy to overlook something labeled as dubstep, but this album certainly isn't the same dubstep you're thinking of. Burial virtually captures the rainy, dark, gray setting of London in this album, reforming this bleak picture ... read more

James Blake - The Colour in Anything
82

It's a very good record. However, I think it could be trimmed down a bit time-wise.

Pavement - Brighten the Corners
88

It's hard to rate this album in comparison to the likes of S&E and CR,CR, but Brighten the Corners is definitely a classic. Lots of awesome rifts, a few of Pavement's best songs come out of this one (Stereo, Embassy Row, Shady Lane). Really enjoy this record!

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
95

Wilco's best work. So many layers of sound that flow so naturally. The production quality is off the charts. Tweedy really peaks on this album.

Loved: IATTBYH, Kamera, War on War, Jesus etc, Heavy metal drummer, ITMWLY, pot kettle black
Liked: Radio cure, Ashes, poor places, reservations
Disliked: None

Slint - Spiderland
99

There's a certain level of darkness and calamity in this album that is just unprecedented. Hearing the "I MISS YOU!" for the first time in Good Morning, Captain was indescribably impactful. Spiderland is a very haunting, yet reminiscent record. I remember seeing the album tagged as "math rock", and I was surprised at first, but after hearing it through a couple more times, the precision in songs like Breadcrumb Trail and Nosferatu Man assert that classification. This album ... read more

Atlas Sound - Logos
90

I'm a big fan of this album. While I found AS after listening to Deerhunter, I love the fact that Cox can branch out with this and really reach his own potential. Reminds me a lot of Carve Your Initials Into The Wall Of The Night.

Atlas Sound - Parallax
85

Cox continues to impress with his amazing experimental album Parallax.

Deerhunter - Microcastle
95

Microcastle is authentic Deerhunter. The drums, the hypnotizing guitar riffs, the impressive bass, all of it is just so captivating. It reminds me a lot of a more improved Cryptograms. Deerhunter unleashes their full potential on this one.

Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
98

Definitely one of Deerhunter's finest works. So many captivating songs with incredible production and intense lyrics. Songs like Helicopter and Memory Boy are just masterpieces. This record is near perfect. It captures the life of a homosexual in a straight world- the reality that Cox had to face for much of his life.
On a side note, I encourage anyone to check out the story of Dima that is highlighted in "Helicopter". It's a brutal tale, but incredibly interesting and continues to ... read more

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
96

Hendrix's best record. Truly a work of art. One of, if not the, best records from the 60s. Really loved the longer tracks like Voodoo Chile and 1983...

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
93

Everytime I listen, I feel like I understand the album more and more. Moreover, AC really brings out their full potential in this record. Incredibly unique; I think this album captivates what AC is all about. One of, if not THE, best records of the past 10 years.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
95

Truly incredible. One of the best records in the past 20 years. Every track is a fun, joyous track that just tops the next one. So many different feels on all 18 of these tracks. Love it!

The Avalanches - Wildflower
90

Initially, I was not a fan. I thought it was incredibly similar-sounding to SILY. But after a couple more plays through, I realized that this album is unique. I really enjoy a lot of the features on this album and I'm once again impressed by the work of the Avalanches. Their turntableism is insane.
