Is it crazy to say crowns for kings is at least a top 20 song of last decade?
So this album is... weird. I just wanna start by saying i really wanted to like this project. As someone who believes it was written is just as good as illmatic, this album, in concept, feels like a natural evolution on everything IWR was. With the firm making its debut, dr dre as one of 2 main producers and continuing this mafioso rap style that Nas did on It was written which i imagine ruffled some feathers at the time, the same way it was written did when it first dropped.
But there was ... read more
The most underrated hip hop album of the decade, 'whut? Thee album' manages to fall below so many peoples radar despite having some of the best rap performances for the time and some absolutely BANGER production all over. The only flaw is a tad bit of bloat but there really isnt any skips
In my opinion the first ever 100/100 hip hop album (except maybe 3 feet high and rising or pauls boutique), the low end theory puts me in such a good mood without fail each time. Filled to the brim with personality in each aspect, whether it be the rapping from each rapper on here or production its all just so upbeat with bouncy basslines and drumbeats all over it. This makes the low end theory the first TRULY perfect rap album
the most overrated artist in the UG/rage/southern trap scene right now, genuinely dont get why some of yall like this dude
WOWWWWWWWW
Yall are wildin on this one i cant even lie, the hate on this entry specifically is so overblown i cant. Just below KD2 and 3 and above magic 2 and KD1 i actually really like this project. Magic 2 (imo) had nas' least inspired pen game of his 2020's run and magic 3 brings it swinging back, with the based on true events duology especially being one of the few storytelling tracks that i was honestly kinda missing from nas in his recent stuff.
Its weird how many people claimed this was aoty material...
Theres a lot of fantastic sings, the title track, young metro, like that, cinderella and everyday hustle. A lot of good tracks with ice attack, aint no love and claustrophobic with the occasional dud here and there with GTA and magic don juan. I can pretty confidently say this is futures best album this decade, not that there's a lot of competition but metro and future clearly have chemistry.
Lone sounds alive on some incredible production which is ALL I HAVE WANTED FROM HIM ALL HIS CAREER. with his 2025 run it feels like he has FINALLY evolved into a solid artist thanks to him finally getting into his niche. he abandoned the </3 sound for years after the original mixtapes, in all honesty, sounded like wasted potential and since then only finding life in his ken collabs like money & sex and veteran, with an occasional great solo track but his whole projects fell apart for me. ... read more
We've been waiting for this for years, formally announced without a title a year ago and teased on his illmatic 30th anniversary tour that i was lucky enough to attend. Nas is in my top 2 rappers oat, responsible for 2 masterpieces and had been on a great run with hit-boy prior to this release.
Despite the fact that DJ premier has been kinda out of form recently, having some great beats here and there like with wave gods on Nas' 'magic, i havent loved a preemo produced project ... read more
Nas revisits in preparation from
Grand and cinematic production, fantastic lyricism as usual and all done without features. KD3 manages to be the most consistent in the KD trilogy, even if i think that KD2 has higher high's. Nas releasing some of his best work after decades on the scene will never cease to amaze me
Nas revisits in preparation for Light years:
This not having a must listen is shocking to me because this is incredible, deadass just as good as KD3 and i'd argue the highest high's in the trilogy land here with Nobody and death row east.
Nas evolved to modern hip hop sensibilities while still respecting and being reminiscing in his old school routes both lyrically and with his collaborators. EMPD, Eminem and Lauryn Hill all give fantastic contributions. Even the A boogie and YG ... read more
revisiting in anticipation for light years (which drops tonight)
This is fantastic. the worst of the KD trilogy easily but that doesnt mean its bad at all. the chemistry between nas and hit-boy is clear right out the gate with his lyricism as good as it ever was on tracks like the title track, Car #85, ultra black, 27 summers (one of my favourite beats on the album), Til the war is won (overhated), All bad and the cure. that being said its not him at his best, but we see that in the next 3 ... read more
being nice, come get me, life we chose and project windows are great.
now lets go through whats wrong with this thing.
beat selection? im convinced this album is the reason why people think his beat selection is ass
Rapping? easily the best part about this album, but even that is nas at his LOWEST standard, apart from the few exceptions.
features? how you waste a mobb deep feature?
Hooks? embarassing. nas needs to stop trying to sing, it never works.
you cant keep trying to do street shit, ... read more
Revisiting nas projects in preparation for Light years: I am...
I am is an album that i want to like, but honestly kinda hate cause it has so much wasted potential. this album COULD HAVE BEEN another classic but the leaks at the time heavily impacted both the quality of this and nastradamus i feel.
