De la soul is responsible for one of my favourite discographys in hip hop and its not nearly talked about enough. This album not only keeps the consistency that i loved from them. Trugoys presence is definitely missed and felt, but overall i think this is easily the best "legend has it" drop that we had this year. Each of the albums have felt maybe dated in some aspects but this album feels like a natural modernisation of the sound de la soul helped create.
More of glovers actual talent is presented here but this album is still just kinda... fine. Its a fun listen but nothing to write home about and not decade defining like people make it out to be
As much as glover flexes his clear talent on this project. Some fantastic production on here (particularly on Les) and some great ideas here and there with maybe 3 good songs, but in execution this album completely drops the ball
if only yall could see the face i pulled when charlie murder started.
this production SCARES me. i want to know how much coke had to be snorted in order to make something like this because the production on here is kinda in line with what albums like psykotic and RIB did... but somehow more batshit insane. this album peaks with the intro track. charlie murder and nogwaplife with a couple more great tracks like ozzy trisbourne and the final track. apart from that the rest of this thing, while ... read more
This shit is so egregious. A pretty good beat gets ruined by he77's atrocious delivery that doesnt change the whole fucking song. I deadass can only make out a word here and then. This song sounds like he's rapping through his teeth through most of it and hes rapping for most of the track. Homixide gang save things a little bit but they show up for 30 seconds at the end of the song. One of the worst singles of the year.
After editing, i've found it he dropped this single the ... read more
This not having the must listen tag shocked me. this isnt just my favourite nas album of his hit boy collaborations but imo its his best since it was written. 9 tracks and all bangers. some of Hit-Boy's smoothest beats and Nas spits some of his best verses showing just how well his style has aged. i know calling this better than KD3 is considered blasphemy to many but fuck i cannot get enough of this album and i havent since i first heard it. speechless and wu for the children especially ... read more
Out of Jays pre "retirement" run he had 3 acclaimed albums. Reasonable doubt. The blueprint and the black album. Out of these 3 the black album had always been my least favourite, not cause i didnt like it but cause i didnt like it as much as the other 2. On relisten i was suprised to have my ranking change cause this album was much better than i gave it credit for. Every single song on here is unbelievably good. Some of the best beats he has ever rapped on (lucifer is a top 5 kanye ... read more
the 100th album that came out this year that i've listened to. i'd say i need a job but im trynna find one okay?
anyway this album is fantastic. genuinely probably the most unique album to come out this year with insane production all throughout, expected from danny brown and all FANTASTIC features.
fav tracks: book of daniel, copycats, 1999 flowers, green light, what you see, baby, 1lov3myl1f3, all4u
i cant listen to this album in full, however tracks here and there are fair game.
in many ways beautiful, Donda should have been Kanyes retirement album by all means. some fantastic songs on here but this is the last good thing we got from kanye and i think the last time we'll ever get something good from him. the politics is hard to distract from at points though
Theres a few fantastic songs on here. No church in the wild is a top tier rap song, paris is iconic, otis is fun with a fantastic sample flip, murder to excellence is super underrated and why i love you is super nostalgiac to me.
Everything else is SUPER meh. For 2 of the best to ever do what they do, its sad how this album is just the definifion of okay
