Genesis - Wind & Wuthering
80

Wind & Wuthering has a more soothing sound than the other albums that surround it. The last album with lead guitarist and composer Steve Hackett that left due to him feeling "not appreciated" in the band, which was heavily untrue. This record has a certain vibe or atmosphere that to me doesn't repeat itself ever in this band, it feels like a more aggressive version of some Gabriel era tracks.

It isn't hard getting to enjoy this album. It has a lot of the typical elements you ... read more

TOOL - Ænima
80

"Ænima" is Tool's second full length studio album, and it showed how this band reinvented their sound after the raw and absolutely great Undertow. On here Tool reaches a new level of creativity, and approach this LP with some more abstract themes and complex arrangements and song writing. On here we also see the inclusion of bassist "Justin Chancellor", that would replace their previous bassist "Paul D'amour" after his departure from the band.

Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
90

So as I finally finished covering the Peter Gabriel era... Now we get into the Collins era. It all took off with "A Trick of The Tail", which presented overall a heavier sound without letting go of their progressive sound. It showed a lot more of faster and way more vivid tracks like: Dance on a Volcano or Squonk. But while this album has some of these heavy tracks, it also some very beautiful songs like Entangled, Ripples and Mad Man Moon.

I really like this record, but I wouldn't ... read more

black midi - Hellfire
80

Today is the happiest day of the year for music nerds!, yes Black Midi just released a new album today... The awaited "Hellfire", by this incredibly talented English band that teased this release with singles like Eat Men Eat or Welcome to Hell. I've never really got into this band, but I saw the release of this new LP as an opportunity to do so. Before getting into this review I just wanted to ask: am I the only one that gets flashbacks of Mr. Bungle while listening to this band?, I ... read more

Interpol - The Other Side of Make-Believe
60

Interpol just released their latest full length studio album. The latest set of records by this New York band have been somewhat controversial and very well received neither by critics or fans, sincerely I like almost every latest album by them, especially "El Pintor".
-
Interpol's overall tone is known to be a dark and shallow one covered by melancholic riffs and very clean drums that go along side that legendary basslines. On "The other side of Make-Believe" we get this ... read more

Pescado Rabioso - Artaud
70

Ok so hear me out, while Artaud is a beautiful melancholic trip, I really haven't connected emotionally to it. I would prefer any day of the week his prog sound, like on El Jardin De Los Presentes or in Pescado 2. But this album unlike these other two was a benchmark to Argentinian history. It's beloved by many people, I mean the Chilean president visited Argentina and the Argentinian president gifted him this record: I think that will show you how important this damn album is.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
90

"Selling England By The Pound" is probably Genesis best achieved record. It met the expectation of following up the great "Foxtrot". To me this album showcases this band creative standpoint feeling way more free and versatile. While I prefer other two albums from them, this one is probably their most classic release, and one you should start with if you want to get into Genesis.

The production on here is finally clean and isn't a problem for them. The playing on here is ... read more

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
80

"Songs for the Deaf" is the classic concept record by Stoner Rock band Queens Of The Stone Age. On here we get a road trip story that intends to capture the feeling that you're travelling through the Californian desert, that was inspired by the trips Josh would make between gigs.
-
This album has a fair tone of sarcasm and it's used to make fun of radio hosts. Almost every track has a radio intermission, that gives it the feeling of it actually being played on the radio. But this ... read more

Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 4
60

Benny the Butcher released "Tana Talk 4", which to me is a decent, but no so special project. I've seen a lot of people regard this album as one of the top 10 albums of the year, and somehow I just can't do that, this one isn't as engaging as I thought it would be, in fact it's pretty boring and it drags at times thanks to some repetitive hooks or simple bars that are not only uninteresting, but also pretty disappointing.

XXXTENTACION - ?
40

On here X takes a way more creative and described by himself "versatile" approach to composure of the LP. I actually wouldn't say it's uplifting at all, but it still feels more mature and well arranged than "17", which was a controversial review to me.
-
Just by the first couple of tracks you can instantly tell he was more engaged with this project and he felt way more connected to it. Opening tracks like Alone, Part 3 show a perfect mix between some sentimental chords mixed ... read more

Beach House - Once Twice Melody
60

"Once Twice Melody" is essentially divided into 4 parts, I don't know the concept and I tried searching for it, but I got no answers. This record is quite long, with it getting to an 84 minutes of runtime. These 84 minutes are divided into a fair amount of 18 tracks that surprisingly have an insane amount of consistency.
-
While it has four different parts, each part flows correctly into the other without any problems. The whole vibe of this album feels like a fairy tale, and it's ... read more

Genesis - Foxtrot
100

"Foxtrot" is the essential Genesis album to me. It shows the faces of the band in every different song. It shows consistency and a growth in sound that is too good to be true. I just can't believe these guys are the same young lads that made "From Genesis To Revelation", a pop folk record that showed a lot of potential which is met on this LP.

Watcher Of The Skies is a mystical track with a lot of tempo changes that show how talented these guys were. Time Table is a ... read more

TOOL - Fear Inoculum
80

"Fear Inoculum" is a great piece of work for Tool, I would say that it has some flaws, but overall this LP showed matureness in the band since they the 13 hiatus they went on after "10,000 Days". Before jumping into the review, I will say that I love this band, so the score is affected by that, but I'll try to be as the most critical I can be.

2 Chainz - Dope Don't Sell Itself
40

With "Dope Don't Sell Itself" rapper 2 Chainz delivered on of his most flawed albums yet. The overall performance on here absolutely disappoints and contributes nothing to the energy of the record.
-
Most of this album is heavily forgettable and lame, which can be worse than being straight up bad. On here there are some of his most despicable tracks like "Neighbors know my name" which is a straight flop and the stupid "Pop Music" which make this record feel so out ... read more

Soul Glo - Diaspora Problems
60

With "Diaspora Problems", the Philadelphian band Soul Glo, has achieved to make an engaging abrasive and aggressive project that has grabbed the attention of many listeners. This band has a very interesting mix of metal / punk rock with urban influences.
-
This punk experience was a good hardcore ride to madness. And this album opened a lot of gateways to rap influenced songs. And this LP also treats a lot of political and social terms along side the runtime of this record, and most ... read more

Genesis - Nursery Cryme
90

On "Nursery Cryme" we see this weird pop band that barely got any attention transform into the prog legends they're known. The incorporation of Phil Collins at drums and Steve Hackett as lead guitarist was the boost Genesis needed to become one of the best bands to ever walk on earth.

You can tell instantly by the first track "The Musical Box" that these guys set a new sound for the band, mystical prog rock that has melodic parts with folk influences. On here every aspect ... read more

Ramones - Leave Home
70

We all know the Ramones, they were the kings of punk rock (yes Ramones are better than the Sex Pistols). And Leave Home just further proved how they were one of the greatest bands at the moment. The sensation of the Ramones was making short songs with all same structure but different chords and melodies.

I really like this LP, it's very listenable for me, it also has a lot of replay value, which backs the fact that while these songs are repetitive and sound the same, they still a certain ... read more

Genesis - Trespass
80

With "Trespass", Genesis opened a gateway to their prog world, and that's notable since the first track "Looking For Someone", which mixes a poppy song with a prog instrumental and outro. That's why this album stands important in their catalog for me, it showcased a change in sound, a sound they would keep for five albums straight, and then even keep some tendencies of it when Phil was leading the band.

070 Shake - You Can't Kill Me

Danielle Balbuena or better known as "070 Shake" released You Can't Kill Me, a strong LP with a lot of remarkable qualities which I will dig in as this review proceeds...
-
I thought that this album was a decent to good release. And I've also seen a lot of people talk about this release, and give it good critiques I have built on to build this review. This one took a while for me to completely digest. I would repeat a lot of tracks for them to completely sink in, and the loss of time ... read more

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)
100

Steven Wilson achieved to make on of the best prog albums of the 2010's with "The Raven That Refused To Sing... (And Other Stories)". He teased some songs like Luminol by playing it in Mexico in 2012 on the "Get All You Deserve" live album, that presentation was the intro to this album.
-
Wilson wanted this LP to feel from the 70's, and he kinda made that dream come true, with tracks like Luminol or the title track having a very retro vibe to them, but other tracks like ... read more
