Soundgarden - Superunknown
80

Superunkown is the pinnacle of the famous grunge band "Soundgarden" led by the rock legend and Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell. This album is one of the most well fleshed out one's I've heard in a long while. This is also one of the best grunge albums and albums in general that I've ever listened to. It starts of with "Let Me Drown" which is hands off my favorite opener for a grunge album along side "Pretty Noose" from Down On The Upside. My Wave is another fun ... read more

Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
70

The essential metal album by probably one of the most well known bands of all time "Iron Maiden". Every Wednesday I'll review an album from each year (from 1960 to 2022). Today is 1980's turn. This album is a pretty great release by Iron Maiden and one of the most consistent and best debuts of all time, and also my favorite album by them by far. It starts of with "Prowler", which is such an energetic starter for this album. Like for today standards this would probably be a ... read more

Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
70

Grace For Drowning is the second solo studio album by the contemporary prog legend Steven Wilson. This album feels like a soundtrack less than an album, it's a little like Passion by Peter Gabriel. This record has a lot of interludes and instrumentals, it also may be the most jazziest album by Wilson, even more than the Raven. This album is probably his most emotional effort to date, it's like if Insurgentes was turned into a drama. There is a lot of songs I go back to on here like: Index, ... read more

Kanye West - ye
70

The art of ye. This album is one of the most beautiful things I have heard in my life. It's Kanye's album, a vulnerable and personal space that shows his vision of his recently diagnosed bipolarity that was blown in the media by stupid paparazzi. This album is such a piece of art, and what better than review this on Kanye's birthday. The theme and ambient on here is absolutely great, there may be songs like All Mine that put you out of the atmosphere of this record, but that song still smashes. ... read more

Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor
50

The self titled release by Zeal & Ardor was an ok release which I was not the biggest fan of. The idea of this band and their sound feels very original and good, but the final product isn't as fun as it seems. This solo project that is led by a man I share name with Manuel Gagneux is the genius of this band. This album wasn't all that good to me, there were some pretty flawed bits I think worsened the album in a way, but also very great and consistent moments that I thought were cool. My ... read more

Metallica - St. Anger
20

This album is regarded by many (including me) to be the weakest and worst Metallica album out there. This record was a very dark and bloated place to the band, as you can see on the documentary from 2004 - Some Kind Of Monster you can see how uncomfortable and weird the band was at the time. James Hetfield was leading with depression, Jason had left the band, Lars was experimenting on the stupid snare that made the final cut and Kirk wouldn't be allowed to guitar solo. The sound of this album ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
80

The new band that has been talked about a lot is Black Country, New Road, an alternative project that gives you flashes of nostalgia of artists like David Bowie or Peter Gabriel. And this band has been a miracle for music lately, it's absolutely great too see bands like this appear from nowhere and makes as amazing music as this. Every chord progression is enough to trigger your emotions which are charged with a very beautiful vocal performance. The album opens with Chaos Space Marine which got ... read more

TOOL - 10,000 Days
80

This LP by Tool is their most personal and to the core release to date. 10,000 Days is a prog album based on the death of the vocalist mother's "Judith" and the respective 10,000 Days she passed paralyzed. The album opens with Vicarious which is a very agressive track that opens the album in such a bad ass and weird way at the same time. Jambi is another heavy hiter with an awesome bassline that really carries the whole track being honest. Then there's an epic divided into two parts ... read more

Genesis - Invisible Touch
60

Invisible Touch is the commercial success of the 80's by the famous prog band Genesis. Do I like the album?, Not really much being honest, Is it good tho?, Yes. It opens with the title track which everyone knows, a pretty decent track that does nothing to me, don't really care about it, really 80's pop, nothing else. Then we get to the saving grace of the album, the epic "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" is the prog salvation of this record, it's a great 9 minute track that for me is one of ... read more

Frank Ocean - Blonde
60

I cannot be the only one that thinks that Frank Ocean is an overhyped musician, I respect him and his music, but it just never clicked for me, I found this album to be pretty boring after several re-listens. Because I just listen to this and find no sign of life. I won't say that y'all are crazy for liking him, probably I'm the crazy who knows, but my point is that Blonde is an album I found to be very lazy and boring. In this album there was still a lot of great tracks like: Nights, White ... read more

A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms
80

The first album by this amazing band led by Tool frontman "Maynard James Keenan" is one of the most consistent releases of the 2000's. Mer De Noms is a great introduction to the short world of A Perfect Circle and it's variety in the musical world. This band is way more diverse and melodic than Tool since it consists of the guitarist of The Smashing Pumpkins "James Iha" which adds an important melodic element to the band. This album starts off with The Hollow which is such a ... read more

FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS
60

Caprisongs by FKA twigs is a very good mixtape that diversifies her musical fields throughout rap/hip hop features and outstanding production that allows her vocal range to stand out. Her voice on here feels a lot more discomposed than on other projects being honest, it does have redeeming qualities and I think the sound mixing helps on that, but she feels way more solid and well put out on other albums like LP1 or Magdalene which are albums I think are more regarded to be better. I suppose ... read more

Rush - Vapor Trails
50

Vapor Trails by rush isn't bad, not as people say, it's actually a pretty decent release. I obviously think that the 2013 remix is way better than the original release. Tho this album is probably the weakest release by Rush, it's still understandable, they were getting old and Neil for example was passing through a very hard time by losing two of the closest human beings to him. It does have awesome moments that serve as a sort of rehabilitation for rush. And I think this album was treated to ... read more

Post Malone - Twelve Carat Toothache
40

Post Malone returns after three years, with his new studio album Twelve Carat Toothache. This album wasn't the greatest experience, it was pretty boring and generic, plus Malone's voice isn't even in it's prime. The album opens with Reputation which is a pretty lame piano led intro to this album. Then Cooped Up that features Roddy Rich continues the boring tendencies. Lemon Tree is has a good chord progression through out the song, but Post Malone's vocals ruin it for me and make this song ... read more

Baby Keem - The Melodic Blue
70

Another review for today, Baby Keem's The Melodic Blue. Kendrick's younger son is a genius already, he has an awesome feel to his music. This album from last year is a great one, tho I don't really like Keem's voice, but it does remind me of when Kendrick was in section.80 and he had this very high pitched voice, but that makes him unique in a way, I love when both Kendrick and Keem are in the same track, it just shows this very fun contrast between a dude mid 30's and another barely being and ... read more

will.i.am - #willpower
10

Willpower by the famous William from the Black Eyed Peas is a garbage mainstream sellout album that has almost no redeeming qualities except for Britney Spears, which carries her own feature on Scream & Shout which is by far the best song on the album. This album is nothing beyond than cringe 2013 modern pop hot garbage. There are horrible tracks to the right and left, with stupid features that have the soul purpose to be played on the radio, and to be used at kids birthday party's. I'm ... read more

Haken - Virus
70

This is my first time listening to Haken, a band I've heard a lot of lately (past 2 years), so today I decided to review their latest album "Virus". This prog rock band from England that was formed all the way back to 2007 is one of the new faces of prog metal/rock that we have today. And being honest, I'm not really the biggest fan of it, it feels too poppy and it doesn't have the mystical elements you would want in prog. The record opens with a very heavy futuristic track called ... read more

Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Room
60

The great Leonard Cohen is the artist I will take on today to review. Songs From A Room is a phenomenal piece of art I think is underappreciated these days, the acoustic sounds of the guitar haunt me. It this man heart to heart with his instrument, and I know today it seems like nothing, but a the time it did mean something. The album opens with Bird on the Wire which is a pretty decent tune tbh. Then we jump into Story of Isaac which is just an incredible work of music. Tho many of these songs ... read more

Future - I NEVER LIKED YOU
40

Future's latest release "I never liked you" is pretty mediocre. It feels like standard rap were nothing really stands out, not even great features like Kanye or the infamous Drake, who fall flat on their faces being honest. Every track is very similar and there seems to be no redeeming quality to it. The best thing on here is his rapping, that may be controversial but I feel that the beats are quite trash. Wait For U is probably the most original song on here, and it still feels the ... read more

Gorillaz - Demon Days
60

Gorillaz is led by Damon Albarn, lead vocalist of Blur, so actually this duo is the side project from him, but since Blur ain't even releasing stuff since 2015, I guess Gorillaz is his main band now. Demon Days is their most popular release, and I don't really find it that mesmerizing being honest, I used to really like Gorillaz, but this album feels kinda dead to me, it isn't really bad, in fact it's pretty good, but Damon feels uninspired and tired, which drags it a little to me, the ... read more
