I've literally never heard a second of Talking Heads' music before listening to this album, which is something I almost never do. And how much I liked the overall experience really surprised me.
When it started, I immediately liked how the songs sounded, what I had to get used to was the vocals. They do sound quite off-putting on the first songs. But then, I got used to them pretty quickly, and the songs' quality was just really consistent. Until it got to Heaven, which is one of the best ... read more
Good album, has some brilliant songs, a lot of very good ones, but also some really forgettable tracks.
I mean, the forgettable songs are mostly fast, but they are still unnecessary and not really adding to the experience.
Now, I get that this album will grow on me, but I will never understand all of the lyrical beauty hidden in it. When I listen to this thing I kinda regret that English isn't my native language. Anyway, what I can't really deny is Madlib's genius production.
But, once ... read more
A really short collection of powerful songs.

Well, that was really good. Who would have expected?
Recently, I asked Chat GPT what albums it would recommend me based on my favorites. This was one of the few it recommended that I haven't heard already. And yeah, it's good.
It's just that it's not anywhere near a masterpiece. It's not Nevermind. It's just a collection of a lot of good songs about addiction.
While the album isn't a masterpiece, Would certainly is. It closes the album brilliantly, with the lyrics summing up everything ... read more
There is a couple of undeniably iconic cuts on this album, but the ending is kinda weak.
The first song is so freaking evil that it actually makes the album not dark at all in comparison. And that's the thing, whenever they tried to recreate the darkness of the self-titled song, they made the weakest songs on the record (Sleeping Village and Warning).
Overall, the album's good. Really innovative for the time, but a little dated for today.
Brad Taste 10s: Pt. 14
I don't get it, like at all.
The only good thing about it I can't really deny is creative sampling, but that's it. The flow mostly sucks, and the rhymes are incredibly uninteresting. I would say that it hasn't aged well. The only song that clicked with me is Eye Know. It really stands out.
Overall, whatever it is, I don't like it. Not the worst thing I've heard though.
Brad Taste 10s: Pt. 13
It sounds iconic, but it doesn't sound interesting.
I mean, really not my thing, but I appreciate it.
Almost every song has a moment when it clicks for me. Sometimes, a moment big enough for me to like it. The first two songs are quite good. Darling Nikki is a fun one, and Purple Rain sounds the most iconic out of all the songs here.
For some reason, I feel bad for not giving it a higher rating, but I gotta be honest.
Brad Taste 10s: Pt. 11
Sounds good.
I mean, that's all I even have to say about it, sounds nice. I really like the guitar usage on some of the songs, though.
The first half of this thing was actually very promising, but somewhere after Dissolved Girl, the sound just didn't surprise me anymore.
Overall, a little weaker than I expected after hearing Angel and Teardrop, but still good.
While being a really weird band, Xiu Xiu is much less uncompromising than, for example, Swans. Or at least that's what I thought after the first 2 songs. The first 2 songs are the best on this album, and they are very different from anything else on here. They're really weird but still catchy and touching.
Everything after the first 2 songs is much more obscure and nothing, except maybe Ian Curtis Wishlist, didn't hit me as hard as the first songs.
I still liked some of them, ... read more
Несмотря на хронометраж этого релиза, он успевает тронуть до глубины души и по сути довести до катарсиса. В хорошем смысле странно.

It's not that bad. The vocals aren't as bad as everyone says, the riffs are really interesting sometimes.
Unfortunately, the only song I could call good is Fur Beach.
This is the last album out of the 3 legendary bands' 1967 debuts I wanted to cover, and this one may just be the most experimental, most insane, and still the worst one of them.
It's just kinda too weird. While I really appreciate just how forward-thinking it is I can't say that I enjoy it as much as The Doors debut, or even The Velvet Underground debut.
Some of the shorter songs feel unnecessary, but it's definitely not the case with Flaming. Flaming is as great as the album gets, it's so ... read more
Swans: Pt. 10
After the 2 and a half hour beast that Soundtracks for the Blind was, I wanted and needed something simple. Simple by Swans' standards. And, surprisingly enough, I kinda got what I needed.
This album is probably less experimental than any other Swans album, except maybe The Burning World, but that's the amount of experimentation I'm satisfied with.
While it's not as groundbreaking as Swans albums' usually are, I still find it hard to believe that a 55-year-old man reunited ... read more

I really wanted this listen to be special. So I listened to it while going from Eilat to Caesarea, which is basically the whole country. I thought that this way it could get all of the attention it needs. And I also tried as hard as I could to prepare for it.
The thing is, while I am happy and kinda proud of myself that I completed this thing, as you can tell, I didn't really get it. It's the first time when I listen to an album that has more interludes than actual ... read more
This album makes Master of Puppets sound blissful in comparison.
I mean, 8 out of 10 songs on this album sound the same, but it's not really a bad thing, cause every single one of them sounds good.
It's funny how in every song, Tom Araya shows just how erudite he is with a ton of unknown what-the-hell-that-means words, like abacinate, lacerated, etc. The last thing you expect from a thrash metal album is to improve your vocabulary.
Anyway, the album's really good. Cacophonous, repetitive, ... read more
Godspeed You! Black Emperor if they were good.
All jokes aside, it's impossible to make a flawless 23-minute song. But somehow, they did it. I mean, I don't know how is it even possible to write a song with so many parts, each of which sounds different from any other, and still exciting. And make a song cohesive even though it consists of 10 parts. Though Presence of the Night is probably the best, it's so climactic, though there's still 10 minutes of amazing music left. ... read more
It's interesting how Daughters constantly evolved through their discography. I mean, the consensus among Daughters' fans is basically that every album is better than the one before it.
Thus album is really different from Hell Songs, but it never reminds me of YWGWYW either. Unlike on Hell Songs, on this album you constantly get hit by a monolithic, though not at all homogenous wall of sound.
Overall, it's really the same level as Hell Songs for me. The previous album was more explosive, ... read more
That's really good. It's got one of the highest ratings I gave after the first listen.
This thing is just constantly creative. There's no one weak spot on here, but every 2-3 songs, they make sure to put a banger. I mean, the opener is amazing, The Crystal Ship is amazing, Light My Fire is essential, and The End is just genius.
The End is probably one of the greatest songs to be ever made. I don't understand, how they transitioned so smoothly, from a simple goodbye song they initially ... read more
Yeah, it's good.
A lot of people say they can't stand the vocals on this one, and I completely disagree. Marshall's unique delivery sounds so human and so real. Sometimes, the best thing in the song is his vocal performance.
I'll definitely come back to a lot of songs from here, but if I would choose the best one, it would probably be, the underrated Fuck Whisperer. It's a really good way to end this thing. Really brutal.
Overall, it was nice. I probably should listen to the self-titled.
I've never heard anything even remotely similar to whatever this was, but it's kinda nice. Unsilent Death is a really good song I'd come back to. Everything else works well in the album but has almost no replayability. I might be wrong though.
Also, I'm kinda disappointed by Depths. It lasts a lot more than any other song, but it doesn't do something interesting with it.
Anyway, it's always nice to hear something so new, and I get why people like it so much.
