Bottomless Pit is a subtle reference to the fact that once you start this album, you never want for it to end
Literally one of the best album covers ever made, should be hanged in art gallery or somewhere
Doesn't sound like you could expect, but actually fits the cover. Guitar Music is a great debut, its the kind of the work that simply sets expectations for the band and draws a good picture of it. It sounds punky, loud, layered but very bright at the same time. Its a soup of very energetic pop, glitchy noise, explosions of punky guitars and some sweetier melodies, music that sounds both very dense but simple at the same time. It doesn't even need to be long to be memorable.
While I am not a fan of Can's "Ege Bamyasi", this one's a whole diffrent story, its pure fun, grooves, shakes, whole atmosphere is simply amazing. Even the name fits as it sounds so oddly ahead of its time. Timeless, always from the future
Biggest sin of this album is how it tends to hook you up onto songs before letting you down at some point eventually, like some odd cut through, maybe it was intentional for the sake of absolute chaos all over the record.. Idk, makes me feel maniacal
They've kinda nailed only opening and ending, rest is either mid or pretty bad (with Spirit Walker as a song that could kill a child) and on top of that very alien, not really Ween sounding to be honest
Barely a garage rock, in some extend a minimalistic mix of bumpy sounds, drums with an accompany of guitar here and there, basicly an LP that feels like a cold leftover pizza, could be fresh but its fine anyway. Well, its possible you sometimes like cold one even more, like The Kills are saying: "Cheap and Cheerful"
Its okay, guess I'm just not a big sucker for Impala. By the way, Beck did it better
Decent "fuzzfest" that makes me think its some kind of Black Sabbath and King Gizzard mix
Like Clockwork rised the bar for the follow up album really damn high, thats probably where some of the critique comes from. On the other hand, its completely understandable, Villains is just not a great LP, it packs better and worse songs, kind of a "bumpy" level, some are straight up filler, few are even amazing. Its not terreble, just inconsistent and a bit alien sounding? Something's off on top of that.
Im here just after rediscovering "The Hardest Button to Button" after few years or more and well. Elephant's not the best garage rock record ever, not the loudest, not the neither the dirtiest, but for sure the most charming one.
Thats just straight up too good for a compilation. Usual Ween, but stacked with unreasonably big ammount of really, and I mean really really great songs. Its so consistent and well put together that I'd rather call it an album instead.
Peak B-sides
And to think it was for me the "worst" Gizzard album. Wow, I must have been in bad mood back then. I am not stunned right now after coming back, at least not for the most part, but still I think I owe it an apology. I'm sorry Butterfly 3000, you're not a bad album.
