BETTER THAN EMOTION THERE I SAID IT. SUE ME. if you like pop bangers this is the cream of the crop. jeez can this girl can write a song. the production is clean af also. i remember this and midnights came out on the same night so i did a double feature listening party and it was so fun (carly first obvi). like her other work this is just hooks on hooks on hooks like omg
fav song: beach house
fav moment: those light, tropical drums at the start of western wind
i somehow expected the user rating on this one to be higher than it is considering how much (reasonable) glaze this thing recieves on the daily LMAO. but yes pop bible alert. the songwriting is just soo sweet and bubbly and cute i adore it. feels like a summer night out with your girls. i dont even have much to say its just good damn music.
fav song: making the most of the night
fav moment: the way she says "TYPE" on your type is so emotive (no pun intended) like you can just ... read more
YES YES YES YES YES YES 10/10 ABSOLUTE MUST LISTEN. nina's vocals are so cute and sweet, she easily couldve been a teeny bop balladeer, but using that angelic voice to become an indie rock legend is such a fascinating move that she pulls off so so well. everything on this album is chock-full of life, the whole album feels like its winking at you half-seriously. lovefool is the most misunderstood song ever, seeing people post Instagram pictures of their boyfriends to that song without ... read more
me and my white dad music omg. this thing is brimming with personality, the dry humor and sly cadence of his voice is the clear centerpiece of the album. its smooth, its cool, its quintessentially 90s. i really enjoy the genre blending here as well, theres really not another band that does what CAKE does, at least not quite as well.
fav song: daria
fav moment: the into to the distance is just too iconic, it wakes up a sleeper agent in me i swear
so hyped to see these guys on tourrr! its no fashion nugget but its a great record. CAKE has always has this aura of cool to me. sounds like cruising through the desert in a convertible and wearing sunglasses at night. i think its the everpresent sneer in his voice (in a good way).
fav song: shadow stabbing
fav moment: the killer guitar work in short skirt/long jacket simply cant be topped
does it count as a guilty pleasure if its just really good?? i love that the early 2020s decided to swallow disco music whole and put it in everything (that sounds like sarcasm, i promise it isnt). i think this was my top streamed album of 2022 actually lmao. i love that its groovy, i love that its sexy, i love that its smooth, and i love seeing my man bootsy collins get a fat check. also bruno is serving vocals here omg.
fav song: skate
fav moment: bootsy collins little moments in after last ... read more
on a musical level this one is better than doo-wops but i dont have it in my heart to give it a higher score on pure nostalgia value. and this is my account so i rate however i want! this one does have bangers though, it feels a bit more complex than the last record which i like.
fav song: natalie
fav moment: the bridge of treasure always gets me up and moving
im lowkey maternal for baby bruno like okayy count on me one two three <3 this one is cutie patootie but doesnt really hold my attention the way his future work will. a huge chunk of my rating is nostalgia related, he will definitely grow as an artist from here. that being said runaway baby is his best non-silksonic song imo, like he could clearly write bangers from the start. somewhere in brooklyn and talking to the moon are also highlights. our first time is kinda cute but also so intimate ... read more
"at night i wake up with the sheets soaking wet, im bruce springsteen and i just pissed the bed" 🥀
not only was i the youngest person in the theater for the bruce springsteen biopic, but they didnt mention clarence clemons ONCE! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!
jk the movie was good and this album is even better! perhaps one of the most misunderstood albums ever, always used to soundtrack a 4th of july barbeque, but seldom truly appreciated for its emotional depth. dont worry bruce i ... read more
underrated afffffff! so bustling with joy and life. gives me that same sunny joy as that like early mxmtoon, rex orange country, beach bunny etc. era of indie rock. also getting a bit of a happy fits vibe (whom i adore). please listen and add these boys to your summer playlist!!
fav song: petals on the floor
fav moment: when the bass kicks in on misnomer and the whole mood changes, puts the biggest grin on my face omg
do i need to start listening to the alabama shakes?? this is pretty damn good. love the older soul/r&b influences. love the unique and groovy production. i think fans of hiatus kaiyote and steve lacy would dig this. on a personal level, it didnt draw me back much after first listen, but im really not sure why, because upon reinspection this is awesome. if you want something groovy check it out!!
fav song: what now
fav moment: that groooovy bass guitar on what now (and every other song)
even setting aside my fat crush on JB, this record is soooo good. its got this super intimate feeling that i seldom find in other records. it sounds like road trips and resting your head on a friend's shoulder. THIS is the model for what a supergroup sound be; the writing styles from each of these girls both shines through individually, and meshes together so well as a group. PLEASE COME OFF HIATUS I BEG.
fav song: true blue
fav moment: the buildup in that bridge on not strong enough OOO ... read more
some songs hit a lot harder than others, but every track is still enjoyable. jason absolutely carries, super nostalgic song for me. like good luck babe. body and history are also highlights. not particularly polished but i understand thats probably a budget issue more than anything. check out the first 3 songs if youve got 12 minutes to kill, or at least listen to jason.
fav song: jason
fav moment: the repeated "am i good enough" in jason gets stuck in my head regularly
YEAHHH BABEYYY got tix to see them and im sooo freakin excited. i really love the dark, moody vibe of this one. duvet is a classic, but the more upbeat tracks like anna maria are really what carry the album in my opinion. what a classic.
fav song: little miss
fav moment: the insrumentation on anna maria is probably the most memorable part of the whole album.
felt like a mild step down from her previous album, but that might just be my personal affinity for her debut. still enjoyed it regardless (and her touring this album meant i got to see her live teehee). i know this indie alt rock sound is soooo saturated right now but shes truly the cream of the crop of the genre rn.
fav song: T&A
fav moment: chorus of whats fair
seeing kiss city live was legit a spiritual experience i love u sabrina. this album is so smart and witty, it paints the experiences its depicting so vividly. the sound and lyricism blow me away. i would put my life savings on this girl blowing up in popularity within the next few years. might come back and bump this up to a 10/10 later but im trying to be more stingy with those lately unfortch.
fav song: joiner
fav moment: that final chorus in salad makes my soul genuinely leave my body
felt like i needed a couple listens to really "get" this one, but i think i do actually get it! that swelling instrumentation is great. the vocalist is very emotive which i always appreciate. interesting work, i love when people arent afraid to get experimental. not something i personally go back to a lot but i understand the hype
fav song: the place where he inserted the blade
fav moment: the drums in tpwhitb are awesome
yeah you dont need me to tell you this ones a classic. debbie harry you are such an icon i love u. one of those albums where i feel like im a music video and have to dramatically act out all the songs. simultaneously very timeless and of its time if that makes sense? love it
fav song: 11:59
fav moment: that bridge in one way or another really makes the whole album
i somehow listened to this album before i knew bleachers was jack antonoffs band lmao. very silly looking back. half of this album feels like going out and chanting songs with your friends, and the other half feels like that peaceful drive back home, where you're still emotional from all the fun you had. i really like that almost retro vibe about it, and i cant knock an album with my beautiful amazing bruce springsteen featured (felt a lot of his influence on this record in general). part ... read more
my name is björk and your computer is about to..... EXPLODE!!!!
jokes aside i rlly love this one!! its much more digestable than her future work, its actually got a lot of that staple pop music groove to it. idk about yall but i could get down to big time sensuality at the club (if you couldnt tell, i have never been to a club). i dont have much to say i just really love this one!! brimming with personality, and so interesting to hear in the context of what she'll go on to make. also ... read more
