playing the title track of this album while on aux with a bunch of non-bowieheads is one of the most humbling musical experiences i have ever had and made me realize (in the least pick-me way possible) how all my classic rock stuff actually sounds to my teenaged peers LMAO. going from ziggy to AS kinda makes me miss the storytelling and aesthetics of ziggy, but the songwriting on this makes up for it. its still absolutely a glamrock classic.

i could pull something niche just to sound different but this truly is my favorite bowie album of all time. you know i love a good concept album, and the world that's built here through the character of ziggy is so fascinating. i unfortunately have yet to read up much on bowie's intentions with the character of ziggy, but i personally interpret them as symbolizing new ideas about sexuality and gender non-conformity and people's various reactions to new ideas, as well as a very ... read more
him making such iconic tracks so early in his career is NUTS to me. this is when bowie really becomes David Bowie, the icon the legend. i love how hes able to fuse such different styles (rock, jazz, pop, etc.) in his work (this album and beyond). though, i do listen to this album and yearn to hear it with his more matured, later era voice. this is such a great precursor for the bowie to come, and a great album in its own right.

i have finally reached the bowie section of my album logging journey, and i apologize in advance for the absolutely gratuitous glazing that is about to occur because i LOVE THIS MAN.
this actually used to be my favorite bowie album for a long time, and while others have climbed the rankings, it still brings me soo much joy!! anyone who calls this his sellout album better sleep with one eye open. a lot of people say this sounds dated, and i kinda get that, but i disagree. yes, it clearly ... read more
yayyy my 100th review!!!
this one is quite dear to me and very underrated, if you like singer songwriter stuff please give this a listen! i love how much of an emphasis she puts on storytelling, a song that tells a story is gonna get to me every time and this thing is jam packed with them. also very brave to release a song like "when i was a boy" back in the 90s, youd catch shit for releasing something like that today, let alone 30 years ago. im not trans myself, but the sense of ... read more
this is one of those records that really makes me want to dig in to learning about the mechanics and technical details of music (which is something i, despite being a huge music history nerd, i unfortunately lack). the fact that something like this can even be created is a marvel of art to me. proof that something doesnt have to be super dramatic and moody to have loads of artistic merit, and that dance music IS NOT SHALLOW!!! i just love how bubbly and fun this thing is. ive never been to a ... read more
one of those debut records thats good in a vacuum but when you know whats about to come, it kinda pales in comparison. i still put this one on when i wanna have a little post-punk groove without too much thinking (its a lot easier of a pill to swallow than something like disintegration lol). its also one of those albums where the most popular song IS the best one; while theres a handful of great songs here, boys dont cry really takes the cake (AND ITS ONLY ON THE DELUXE VERSION ?! ur telling me ... read more
there is no album that's better at creating such a dark, moody, dare i say sexy atmosphere than disintegration. the subject matter of this album is so varied and rich; of course theres some depressing stuff (cough cough untitled), but theres more about love and having a lust for life than the sonic cues would make you think. i am partial to their more upbeat earlier records as far as daily, casual listening goes, but this is one of those records you just have to sit down and give your full ... read more
eric clapton i will never forgive you for what you did to pattie boyd. however this album is good I GUESS. its definitely frontloaded with the best tracks and kinda falls off a bit after but man when its good its GOOOOOOD. this album was really a gateway into acid rock for me which i will always appreciate. those strung out guitars are so yummy.
fav song: sunshine of your love
fav moment: the bass intro in soyl HOLY PEAK
absent parent gang rise for our national anthem (never love an anchor). i actually filmed a fanmade music video in high school to "unraveling" and now ive heard it so many times i cant stand it anymore LMAO (a great song though). folk is def not one of my main genres BUT the songwriting on this thing is just soooo stacked it can turn a nonbeliever. not one i pick up nearly as much as i used to but still a classic for me

most definitely a debut album they will go on to do work that is so much more developed in the future but this is a good one! nothing too special but sime cute well written folk songs.

the children yearn for astrud gilberto!!!!
one of my top 5 live performances ive ever attended, so much more stage presence than i expected. this album isnt trying to do anything crazy and bold, its just trying to be very good, which it is! LTM13YOS makes me sob every time, Laufey's voice is heavenly, the whole thing really brings you into another world. my only thing is that i really wish it was more jazzy for something that is propped up as "the new ... read more

i dont think anything is gonna top their debut album for me just because ive listened to it so damn much but this one comes pretty close! i feel like dolores' vocals have really developed on this one, it has that unique lightness only she can bring. god if you love me let me never have to hear that masterpiece that is zombie be disrespected through its placement on halloween playlists again.

i still remember the day my sister told me sunday became a tiktok song #itssoover. anyway this one one of my favorite debut records of all time, the fact thay they made this straight out the gate is nuts. dolores is one of my favorite vocalists ever and i am so sad ill never get to hear her voice live. the songwriting is spectacular, those jangly guitars are so energetic, and its ability to flow from sparkly love songs to the heavier stuff without feeling disjointed is very impressive. we will ... read more
if the user score is better than the critic score u know youre in for a good time!! the slow pace kinda dragged a bit for me, but i think that makes it perfect as something to calm down and unwind to. her voice is gorgeous obviously. put your records on is a classic. good record.
fav song: breathless
fav moment: call me basic but the chorus of put your records on puts a fat smile on my face. like yes girl put your records on
objectively his best work to date. those bridges are so damn catchy and i love how much of a consistent story it has. seeing this live was healing, lost my voice by the end of it. ily conan
fav song: care
fav moment: the bridge in actor AAAAAAUGH SO GOOD
album club pick 4/8/26 - 4/15/26
not super in my genre bubble so it took a couple listens to really get it, but it was def an interesting record! the juxtaposition between the cutesy aesthetic and the more metal parts was really interesting, it cultivated a very unique aesthetic. part of me wants to compare it to babymetal but i think that would just show my lack of familiarity with kawaii metal as a genre lol.
fav song: NEET games
fav moment: the guitar melodies in TGDSE were nice
i have fond memories of staying up and listening to this the night it dropped omg i remember thinking this was the best album ever written. my taste has obvi expanded since but still holds a place in my heart. seeing people watching brought a tear to my eye lowkenuinely.
fav song: jigsaw
fav moment: pre chorus to memories omg
this is def a higher score than it deserves but #IDGAFFFFF. it does objectively feel teeny bop but consider this came out when i was 14 which makes it the best album of all time to a deep recess of my brain. i have vivid memories of crying to "the story" as a freshman in HS lol. it shows such an immense amount of potential for conan. its basic bedroom pop with some catchy melodies that will be seared into my brain until im in the nursing home going "stalkerrrr a watcherrrr a ... read more
i literally almost failed math my senior year cuz i was too busy defending this album in internet comment sections LMAO. yall could NEVER make me hate found heaven this is so peak. im a sucker for conan's voice and writing style, so him drawing inspiration from new wave and 80s synth pop (2 of my favorite genres EVER) is such a treat and so important to me personally. i think the hate for this album came from conan getting boxed into the "sad boy" stereotype, which made people ... read more
