Michael Jackson - Dangerous
85

MJ's most creative project up to this point in his career. Many of the instrumentals use sounds of the world instead of straight instruments, like glass shattering or camera shutters for percussion. I think I also heard a car horn somewhere. Jackson isn't afraid to talk about the famous life and some struggles that come with it. Admittedly, many tracks are fairly shallow love/breakup songs, but there is a healthy mixture of pure groove, love, uplifting, and heartbreak. This is the ... read more

A$AP Rocky - LIVE.LOVE.A$AP
86

Lyrically Rocky's least introspective project is his first, but it manages to have the best vibes out of them all. Every producer here deserves a damn medal because these songs sound at times grandiose and badass, and other times slow and relaxed. Rocky exudes so much confidence that it can't help but reach the listener. His energy is so much fun on here. Lyrically shallow and simple, but for a pure fun album it hits every mark. Some of his greatest songs to date come from here.

Michael Jackson - Bad
61

This thing is crazy boring and dated. I honestly feel like any music artist from the 90s could have made this album. The instrumentals on most songs sound so soulless and commercial, yet they insist on droning on for 6 minutes. It's not that they sound bad; it is all just so uninspired. Don't get me wrong, the songs that hit really hit. I thought Liberian Girl was a smooth track that offered some cool vocals. Bad and Smooth Criminal are classics. Dirty Diana rocks even if it sounds ... read more

Michael Jackson - Thriller

I mean it's THE album. This is the album of all time. No shit it's incredible. Genre defining and timeless. Some of the biggest songs ever here and it just so happens that they're all catchy. If you have ears you've likely heard most songs on her a million times, but that does not take away from it imo. Only complaint here is that Human Nature and Lady in My Life aren't as excellent as the rest for me which typically would be no big deal, but with only nine tracks it ... read more

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
100

This album does not get talked about nearly as much as it deserves. It incorporates mostly organic instrumentation which gives it a unique flare compared to Radiohead's 2000s run. Every song is so easy on the ears from the airy production to Thom's lovely singing voice. It's great for a rainy night or a depressing time; it lulls and comforts. I have fallen asleep to this album before and awoken it complete bliss. A couple tracks have a faster pace, but they never get loud to any ... read more

A$AP Rocky - TESTING

What are we doing Rocky. This album has some excellent songs, but a lot of the tracks in between these highlights are nothing more than afterthoughts. Lots of snoozers here which is especially disappointing considering his previous album was his most cohesive project to date. This thing is so disjointed and even boring at times. A lot of Rocky style isn't really present either. The great tracks don't even feel like Rocky songs. However, the good tracks are undeniably good so I give it ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

The man found out he could make great sing songy love music and decided that a whole album of that would be good. He was correct.

A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
84

All around feels disjointed which makes it stick out among the rest of his music like a sore thumb. Quality of tracks ranges from ehhhh to WOAH. Mostly they land on the higher end of the spectrum. The music sonically lacks much cohesion, and that's fine, but it does lose some points there. The quality of the music is overall very enjoyable, and it has Rocky's signature style imprinted on all over.

Radiohead - Amnesiac
83

This album is NOT just Kid A scraps; it has its own identity with songs as great as some of the band's best and songs as bad as their worst. In fact, revolving doors might be their worst post Pablo Honey song. It is repetitive and ugly sounding. Some of these tracks are brimming with creative ideas that manage to sound great like Spinning Plates or Dollars and Cents. Some of the tracks aren't that creative but still sound great like Knives Out or I Might Be Wrong; they have pretty ... read more

Michael Jackson - Off the Wall

SHOOOOOO WEE this is that shit man. MJ in his best era imo. Everything here is so excellent with some of Jackson's most hypnotically catchy vocals in his career. If there's one thing to say, I think the slower emotional tracks on here are some of his weaker ones. I would much rather listen to his slow tracks from Bad or Dangerous. They're still good songs of course, but it holds it back from being absolutely perfect. The rest of the tracklist is funky fun with amazing MJ vocals. ... read more

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak

Def a weird one. It's one of the most influential blah blah blah who cares. Solely talking about the quality of the music, some people drastically overhate it, and some do the opposite. It's not spectacular to be sure, but I love the spirit on here. So many creative ideas that branch from what he was doing on the original three album run. Ye's singing voice is actually pretty solid, but it honestly could have been better without the overabundance of autotune. A few particular ... read more

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Hood classic for sure. Objectively speaking I can't put this very low. This is one of the most acclaimed rap records ever; most of the music here is spectacular layered badass rap. Plenty of beautiful and catchy instrumentals with classic bars. It's undeniable that when I listen to most of the songs here I can't help but bob my head or feel some emotional resonance. HOWEVER, spiritually I hate this album. Ye was fresh off of 808s and Heartbreak which was extremely different from ... read more

Radiohead - Pablo Honey

Blegh

Edit: after a long journey, I have come to the conclusion that this album is not only "not that bad." It's good! I listened to the full thing again a few more times and it was honestly a really good example of some grunge-adjacent brit rock. Thom's vocals are heavenly as always, and there are some catchy melodies. I like it and it deserves some appreciation.

Radiohead - Kid A
100

Kid A is baby's first electronic record and it introduced people to this kind of music, so many people talk about how insane and groundbreaking it is. Like Fantano said, if you've heard other electronic records this isn't anything super crazy, which is fair. Even assuming all that, this is one of the best in the genre. It's legit amazing. In classic Radiohead fashion, this thing is partly about the fear of advancements in technology. The cover portrays a mountain range ... read more

Radiohead - In Rainbows
98

Another classic for the virgins by Radiohead, In Rainbows is their most accessible project by far. In fact, it was my entry point a couple years ago, but I won't let rose tinted glasses affect the rating, because I have come to enjoy this record ever-so-slightly less than I used to (those two points off). It's still a record with nothing but great tracks, and Weird Fishes is in the convo of best Radiohead song. Jigsaw, All I Need, Nude, Reckoner, and Weird Fishes are the standouts fo ... read more

Radiohead - OK Computer

Nah it’s perfect. Not a blemish on here man. Overall it’s their most innovative and complete record; there’s not a wasted second on here. Riding the line between the peak of rock in 80s and 90s and the electronic future, it mixes the two as smooth as it could’ve been. Some tracks are pure fun electronic rock with Thoms crackhead lyrics and some are chill soundscapes with Thoms crackhead lyrics. Ironically, one of the records main themes is a constant fear of ... read more

Playboi Carti - MUSIC

30 tracks most of which are a waste of time. OPM BABI sounds like a war zone and I fucking hate it. Swamp Izzo made me wanna kms. The worst part of this project is the fact that it could’ve been great. I actually like how abrasive pop out is. Feels like carti’s test of if you really want to deal with the cuckoo crazy rage woooaaaaah I’m crazy ahhhhh vibe of this thing. The Travis features sound so phoned in it’s not even funny. Future and thug are cool in some songs and ... read more

JID - The Forever Story
96

I was bouncing back and forth between a few ratings, but now that it’s been out for a while I think it’s perfect. No track stands out as mediocre to me. This is the first time that jid has used his clearly immense talent to the highest degree possible. He can rap as fast as the greats and sings beautifully on tracks like Kody blu. I have nearly the entire thing on my playlist and for good reason. Production choices are all great and cohesive, mostly remaining subtle and sometimes ... read more

It’s alright. Animals is a big highlight obviously. Probably the hungriest we’ve got from em or jid in a hot minute. I thought the production was neat and jid hasn’t really rapped over stuff like this that I know of so I’m definitely more excited for the album now, but I can see why these are just scraps from the album because they’re mostly mediocre tracks. Behold is kinda cool I like the unorthodox sound. Thought the yachty song was average; so was the 6lack one. ... read more

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
90

These three still got it. Pharrell and the Clipse have always been something else, and they haven’t lost it yet. Everything from titles to lyrics exudes pure badassery. Listening to these songs either makes your dick feel 10x bigger, or makes you feel like crying. The mixture of emotional and classic clipse coke bars blends excellently in the opener and a couple other tracks. Most of the track list consists of classic push and malice wordplay. It’s amazing how they can talk about ... read more
