No way this is the same guy from Digable Planets. What an otherworldly album.
After Hours by Maxo is a truly enchanting Lo-Fi Hip Hop album that seems to combine every niche hip hop sub genre. It felt like a moment in time listening to this.
Usually I hate digicore but this shit was so hard I made an exception.
For the most part this album’s pretty good, it’s just a bit inconsistent. I also can’t shake the feeling that they’re just copying the algorithm they used on still in the paint.
Not only does this album have an amazing producer, Madlib, but also an amazing rapper, Madlib (but his voice is weird)
I love when artists bring back old styles, and Sci-Fi the Mastermind is a perfect example of this. Everything from continuing the tradition of comic book themed alter egos to his flow and rapping style.
Well an acoustic bossa nova adjacent EP was not what I expected from a collaborator of Maria Esmeralda but it was so well done I’m not even complaining.
I think at this point there’s no denying that Brazil is the future of abstract jazz rap. With projects like this, BLACK LAMEN, and HIKITORI vol. 3, I could very well see brazilian jazz rap developing into its own sub genre of hip hop at this point.
Not only does Lupe Fiasco offer a Pop Rap rapping style, but he combines jazz rap production with conscious hip hop production, and also demonstrates his amazing storytelling skills.
While a classic Abstract Hip Hop album, it is definitely not as good as the critics are saying it is. Ts is not better than Madvillainy.
PFP is an extremely consistent album that is able maintain an equally consistent theme. A major highlight of the 2020s Drumless scene.
I’m really hoping this album doesn’t dissapoint, but so far these songs are looking pretty good.
