I remember after my first listen of 'The Seer' I was nearly at a loss for words. I've never looked at music the same way since that night. Across 2 hours of music, Swans managed to assemble some of the most technically impressive, gripping, and awe-inspiring music I've ever heard in my entire life. The title track alone, a 32 minute beast, is enough to have sold me on this record, but when everything surrounding it is just as incredible, dark, conceptual, menacing, and perception altering as ... read more
I love fun Weezer, I've always been a huge defender of their music specifically when their met with harsh criticism that is, in my opinion, mostly undeserved. I really liked Van Weezer, I really liked their previous SZNZ EP Spring, with that being said, Summer feels like a rather underwhelming effort. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good instrumentals, good vocal performances, etc. but it's like... nothing new or exciting for Weezer? Even the lyrics here which usually strike me as being ... read more
here's a concept! let him rest in peace already.
If you want my actual thoughts uh... bad production, zero cohesion, good singing but nothing mind blowing for him, incredibly dated sound, and really this just didn't need to happen. period. there are tracks here that are actually fucking horrendous, do not check it out.
Five Leaves Left is a great start to Nick Drake's career. I really liked the more mellow and laidback sound of this, although admittedly hearing Drake with more than just a guitar and his voice was a bit unnatural for me and did take a bit of getting used to. Regardless, I think this record holds up and is a really great album overall. A lot of great tracks here, and Drake's voice remains as calming and beautiful as ever. Surprised this came out in the 60s!

Fetch the Bolt Cutters is a record so far removed from anything else Apple has done that it's actually pretty jarring on a first listen. I thought I was prepared for this album, I had heard the first four tracks about a hundred times, I knew that it was supposed to get really weird towards the end of it, I knew the topics discussed, I knew pretty much everything going into this, and even still... nothing could've prepared me for this. Simply put, nothing else that's ever been made sounds like ... read more
Honestly, I'm pretty surprised. I'm generally a pretty massive fan of shoegaze, Slowdive is a band I've been known to love in the past, mainly through their self-titled release in 2017 which is to this day still an album I love a lot, but something about this album just didn't really grab my attention in the same way that that one did. Still, it's very pretty and there are some very nice instrumentals, I just wasn't as immediately blown away by this record as I have been with other releases.
Yikes... sorry, I'm not really vibing with this one at all. Everything about the vocals and instrumentals just sounds hideous to me.
Although I can appreciate this for what it is and the impact it holds in Coltrane's discography, I just cannot get over how god awful the recording quality of this was. While I thought parts sounded pretty good and I could kinda tolerate the recording, there were other parts that sounded so overblown and messy that the songs here just sounded flat out ugly. I love jazz with a burning passion, but even I have a limit.
Phil Elverum comes through with a rather effective "sequel" of sorts to 2017's A Crow Looked At Me. While I think there's a little less focus artistically with this record, I do still understand why that is as it seems like these two albums are much less something Phil is putting out to make money from, but rather something he's purely making for himself as a means of getting some of his feelings and thoughts out. As a result of that, neither Crow nor Now Only are easy listens. ... read more
Charli XCX manages to pull through with her most effectively strong and fun set of tracks on how i'm feeling now. If you know me personally, or have even checked my previous Charli album ratings, you'd probably be able to figure out that I'm not the biggest Charli XCX fan in the world. I hate her as a person, although I do think that she makes some pretty good music, albeit very overrated music. However, a lot of the lack of substance and obnoxious personality of a lot of Charli's previous ... read more
A surprisingly well put together debut. Everything that makes Metallica awesome is here, the only thing that Kill 'Em All lacks is the more refined and polished production that I've come to expect from Metallica's releases. The sound of this is a bit more rough, although I think it mostly works to the record's benefit, seeing as how this is one of the most fiery and hellish debuts I think I've ever heard. I also wish the track list was a bit more concise, seeing as how this thing is 50 minutes ... read more
Richard D. James Album is one of those releases that I've been meaning to check out for quite some time, and I gotta say, this is actually very good. While there's not too much cohesion here in terms of the structure and I'd argue that none of the songs here lived up to the opener, this is still a really good album that I enjoyed a lot. Obviously Aphex Twin is a fantastic producer, and I really like the sound of this. Richard D. James Album feels calming, and in a way almost comforting, yet at ... read more
Don't get me wrong, I like Atom Heart Mother, but this is definitely not one of Pink Floyd's most significant or best releases. There's some very nice, sweet and pretty instrumental passages, however it's nothing mind blowing, especially when you know what Pink Floyd are capable of. The title track specifically was a huge example of why Atom Heart just doesn't measure up to what would come after it, being a 23 minute instrumental track that hardly progresses in any significant way or leads to ... read more
Certainly a good record, but it's not anything that I haven't heard before.
Ah, Bob Dylan. I figured it was about time I got back to listening through some of Dylan's classic and "best" albums, and I'm very happy that I did, because so far The Times They Are A-Changin' is definitely my favorite Dylan record. The farther I go along with this, the more I'm realizing how hard it's going to be for me to continue reviewing these albums. I certainly loved this a lot, but it really doesn't change up his sound too much, it's just a lot of the same incredible ... read more
Some cool ideas here but my god the vocal mixing is terrible
