Three CSH reviews in a row??? what is this girl's problem?!??!?!
I don't know, I guess I"m just in a huge CSH mood tonight. Anyways, this album is really good! Certainly not the band's strongest set of songs, especially taking into account that a lot of these are re-recordings of older songs, but I still really enjoyed it. The production still wasn't quite there for me and got a bit too rough for my taste here and there, but overall, it's a strong project with good writing, fun ... read more
EDIT: 86->98........ FUCK
Was gonna write a piece about how obnoxious this album's stans are and what an overrated piece of music it is, after a few minutes I then realized that I had been subconsciously singing along to all the words of Beach Life-In-Death, and then spent the next 3 minutes after that singing my gay little heart out. I'm Lucy, I'm 15 years old, and I'm a hypocrite. and tHIS IS MY STORYYYYYYYYYYY
How to Leave Town is an album (fuck you Will, it's an album) that I had pretty high expectations for going into it, however I was very soon disappointed. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, seeing as how I'm far from being the biggest Car Seat Headrest fan. I suppose just given the title, cover, and knowing a bit about the lyrical topics that CSH often covers, I went in expecting something of a 9-track epic, featuring a thorough concept of a young man's journey to self-discovery or something like ... read more
One of the only albums I'd ever dare call perfect, and I've heard quite a few at this point in my life. From every angle I look at it, Ys is a simply sublime work of art, in the truest sense, a masterpiece. Ys paints musical landscapes so vivid, sprawling, and beautiful, they could be hung up in museums for centuries to come. Newsom's vocals call back to centuries long past, and her sweeping, enveloping instrumentals and phenomenal songwriting all come together so beautifully with her vocals to ... read more
Estrada's breathtaking vocals and light, calming instrumentals flow like a beautiful, calm river on a summer's day, and it's hard not to picture such environments while listening. Estrada takes the Latin influences of her music, as well as the instruments already at her disposal to create something that can only be described as beautiful. Given the stripped back and bare nature that Marchita is presented in, I don't envision everyone clicking with this, but I absolutely urge you to give it a ... read more
'The Chicken' is one of the most beautiful songs Bo has ever written, and 'The Future' is also fantastic, but the rest of this was just a bit too disjointed and messy for me, even if the songs were good.
It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water is an album that, for me, reminds me a lot of the weather. I couldn't tell ya what it is man but so many of the instrumentals here just remind me of different types of weather, the drums on tracks like "Ice" or... well, "Drums" reminding me of rain and ice specifically. Phil's vocals remain as good as ever, and I really liked the experimentation and ideas being tinkered with here, even if I think its follow up is the clear winner. Either ... read more
I don't know what this album is supposed to make me feel? I'm glad people are clicking with this more minimal, electronic sound, but to me it just sounds really cold and dull. I'm glad that people are enjoying this, I really am, but it does absolutely NOTHING for me.
sooooo boringggg zzzzzzz
Yeah, not really my thing at all unfortunately. I didn't like the singing, the production was pretty bad and the instrumentals got repetitive very quickly. Every song just sounds the same to me, y'know? I mean, that same song does sound pretty decent and is enjoyable enough for me to justify this rating, but nothing about this will stick with me whatsoever. Moving on.

One of the prettiest albums I've ever heard. Immaculate production paired with heavenly vocals and incredible sound design make for an album that is front-to-back musical bliss. During its highest moments, Depression Cherry can lift me off the ground, sending me off on a spaceship for a private tour through the cosmos. I absolutely cannot wait to hear this again, I adore this record.

Virtue has a lot going for it. Slick production, good singing, driving, creative instrumentation... but it almost reaches a point of being too varied. For one thing, this thing is 15 tracks long, and it absolutely does not need to be. This thing is super bloated, and it really could've been condensed down to ten tracks and remain a very good (much better) album. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great songs here, but with such a massive explosion of ideas, you're bound to have a few shitty ... read more
'i,i' in everyway, was a disappointing listen. This just... hardly even feels finished. The songs here feel so half-formed, they feel so uninspired and familiar. This is what trying to make 22, A Million part 2 sounds like, at least to my ears. Throughout the process of listening I just kept asking myself the same questions, "why are these tracks so underdeveloped?", "why's this sound that's worked in the past fall so flat on its face here?", and above all else, how is this ... read more
74->83 edit: lmao
Personally, for me, Dummy was a pretty average listen. If you love this album to pieces and think it's one of the greatest albums of all time I have no problem with that, but for me, it's just kinda pretty good. In this album's defense, I think it ends on a pretty high note. I think everything from Roads to Glory Box is pretty great, it's just getting through the kind of sluggish and occasionally dull beginning and middle that makes it hard for me to say that I loved this. ... read more
Despite Teen Dream's countless beautiful moments, I couldn't shake the feeling while listening that the album's biggest downside is its own production. Don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful instrumentals throughout this LP, but the production felt a little too amateurish at points for me to get fully lost in it.
