I took my time to actually review this, because I wanted to make sure. I've always liked Big Thief but never felt like they put it all together. I was in love with Adrienne's "Songs/Instrumentals" project, but knew that was a different type of project. I didn't love the last few records as much as most, so I wasn't as optimistic for this one.
Boy was I wrong. The band finally puts it all together for what is probably the best folk record since Helplessness Blues. The eclectic style ... read more
A real mixed bag. Doppleganger is a weird Editors knockoff and one of the worst songs of the year. The rest is decent.
I think there are some interesting songs on here, and it's overall a pretty solid record. But I can't help but yearn for the Hurray For The Riff Raff of old...
One the more interestingly produced albums in quite some time. Really dig this one, and don't let it fly under the radar!
Took down some points for too few Billie Eilish references.
But in all seriousness, this one took a little longer to click for me than their debut, maybe because I came in expecting something more similar. And while I think there may be a dud or two in here (Good Will Hunting & Chaos Space Marine don't do much for me), there are also some of the most remarkable tracks I've heard in a long long time. What a 1-2 punch with these albums
Kinda all over the place. Mostly mellow but then some real random trap songs here and there which I'm less fond of. But more than a few good things here.
Gah I wish I liked this more. I don't love the overly synth sound and I think her vocals honestly don't sound great throughout. I can't fault her for changing her style, but I do miss when she rocked out a little bit :(
Before I catch up on all the music this week, wanted to give a nod to what may be my favorite R&B album in years
Ok I get why someone wouldn't like this but I'm about it. I think the lyrics are clever and funny and the music is pretty darn catchy
So I'd actually never heard this one. It's amazing this came out 30 years ago. Feels so remarkably ahead of its time
This one's a grower! Glad I'm revisiting. There are some damn catchy tunes here.
Somehow didn't rate this one at the time. But it's a delightful listen of chillness
