I mean it's an alright metal core album but a little overrated. Ollie Sykes' voice gets a little grating when he keeps doing the same scream for the whole run time, and some of the songs sound near identical. It is a pretty loud and crazy album despite this, it just struggles with continuity and consistency.
Favourite Song: Can You Feel My Heart
Best: The House of Wolves, Sleepwalking, Shadow Moses, And the Snakes Start to Sing, Crooked Young, Hospital for Souls
Worst: Antivist
Synth pop is elegantly and beautifully put to its limits on "I'm All Ears". Without a single lacklustre track and the only downsides being two pointless interludes and some needlessly length tracks, there's a lot to love within the spacey and transformative production, as well as the distinctive and sweet vocals. "Hot Pink" is a great way to open up the album despite its aggression being nothing like any of the other tracks, and the closer "Donnie Darko" is a 11 ... read more
Fast paced vibey R&B for 18 minutes straight. It's nothing staggering but it's still infectious and strangely groovy with its hyper drum and bass atmosphere.

Despite some of its punk cringe and at times odd lyricism, Sleeptalk is a nice modern spin on post-hardcore. Combining electronic, pop and punk elements worked pretty well, and the band takes it all with a great sense of catchiness. Is it the most sonically impressive or most underrated album of all time? Absolutely not, but it is a bit of fun for what it is, and something that shouldn't be taken all too seriously when listening. Just enjoy the sweet noise.

Like with most of the classic rock I've been trying to listen to, I'm more appreciative of the banana album than I am infatuated by it. I can admire it like a good piece of art, just like its album cover, but when it comes to replaying it I can't garner the intention to. I still enjoyed this album though, with songs like "Venus In Furs", "Run Run Run" and "Heroin" being pretty cool tracks especially for the time that this album was released. I wasn't huge on any of ... read more
Yeah this bangs pretty hard. 3 perfect experimental pop bangers and the tone deaf "Secret". Vroom vroom vrrrroom vrroom.

There's a certain art to unfinished albums, best proved with Kanye's "The Life of Pablo" and more recently "DONDA". If done right like how Kanye does it, it gives more intimacy and rawness to the experience. However, Jai's unfinished status on Leak 04-13 is less purposeful and more lazy. What music we do get out of this project when avoiding the pointless 30 second unfinished beats however is staggering, it's just a shame that he didn't edit literally anything after the ... read more
This is a lovely EP from an LA band who clearly takes inspirations from a whole plethora of rock. It's a wonderful combination of indie rock with hard rock and punk influences, whilst incorporating some catchy as hell choruses. There's a nice mix of mind numbing bangers like Toro, The Weather and Nine, whilst also having some more mellowed indie moments like on Sepulveda Basin. For a 22 minute experience the band really packs a punch and makes the EP seem longer than it is.
Also, prompts to ... read more
White Blood Cells is raw and engaging, with the power duo making some loud and great garage rock. Even with some duff tracks that clearly had no thought going into them, the heavy hitters and stripped back bangers more than make up for it. I also really like the blues twang that the album has, giving it a retro Americana feel to it. Not much to say other than it's some solid rock and roll.

Anderson .Paak was definitely one of my most listened to artists in 2020, predominantly due to my infatuation with Malibu, but as of late I haven't really been keen to return to my favourite genre bounding lawd lover. So I thought after the disappointing Silk Sonic and with 2021 coming to a close, I should revisit his very first album.
It's hard for me not to mention Malibu since it's one of my favourite albums of all time, but I can't really discuss Venice without doing so. The groundworks ... read more
It's Death without the Grips and it sucks. This perfectly proves that Ride's hooks and enthusiasm is just as important as any other aspect to the band.

Just like with "You're Dead!", Cosmogramma conjures up a wonky and wonderful world of Flying Lotus' creation. Unlike the more heavenly and ethereal later release, this album feels like a space opera with all sorts of genres being broken as well as delightfully random yet encompassing noises all throughout. I think that I definitely prefer this album over "You're Dead!", since it's much more consistent and easy to go back to, however it suffers from the same old Flying Lotus ... read more
There will never quite be a producer like SOPHIE ever again. An audacious and experimental wonder, who could make the weirdest yet hardest hitting stuff ever imaginable. Her one and only album is a true showcase of her style, and her uniqueness in the music world. Who knows how many more leaps and bounds music could've taken if she was still here today.
Rest in peace SOPHIE.

Melancholia Hymns is an underrated synth rock/post-hardcore album up to the quality of something like OK Computer, complete even with its own multi-song Paranoid Android with Indigo. Arcane Roots weaves between their instruments and synth/ambient noises very fluidly, and no matter how crazy they get with their riffs or their electronics, their rocktronica hybrid always breeds wonderful harmonies and catchy vocal work.
The opener sets a nice atmospheric tone, but as soon as Matter hits, the ... read more
And thus with the slightly disappointing Villains, the Queens' discography comes to a close for now. It's not bad by any means, it's just a little inconsistent and a bit of a let down after arguably the bands best release 4 years prior. It has a great 2 opening track, with the catchy and hard-hitting Fett Don't Fail Me, followed by arguably the group's most pop-rockiest song to date The Way You Used To, a nice little overproduced bop. In fact, the whole album feels very over produced at points, ... read more
Worlds is a divine cut of electronic wonders from Porter Robinson. Although there's only a few stand out tracks, there's a nice consistency and continuity to the album, making you ascend each time you listen. Porter was definitely at the forefront of modern electropop, ushering in a new wave of accessible, catchy EDM bangers that don't have to be played at clubs. And to be honest the bangers aren't even what makes Worlds, it's the emotional larger than life electronic ballads like Sad Machine ... read more
Apparently Murphy and co are really good at making at least 1 song on an album which has the potential to ruin the whole thing. Whoever's decision it was to put the self titled track on this album was actively trying to sabotage a fantastic album.
Despite that, Sound of Silver is really good! Compared to This Is Happening, it's a much more consistent and accessible album, with more emotional tie ins and hard hitting songs like New York and the masterpiece that is All My Friends. I like both ... read more
I feel as if MAGDALENE is almost trying too hard to be as experimental yet artsy as possible and it doesn't quite work. Compared to her impeccable M3LL155X EP which goes full force into the experimental side, this album kind of dwindles around the concept of glitchy art pop without going full force into its promise. The songs are alright but there's always a few aspects to them which hold them back, and I don't find myself truly loving anything in particular about this album. Listening to this ... read more
You take Radiohead, make them happy and give them a space fetish, and that's Muse in a nutshell. However despite the obvious comparisons that could be made between the two bands, Muse still finds their own creativity in the form of a grandiose space opera within the Origin of Symmetry. It's fun-filled accessible adrenaline rock with a hell of a capacity for catchy choruses and larger than life production. I found myself being able to listen to this album in literally any mood I was in and I ... read more
This is some of the creepiest yet addictively sensual music that I've ever heard. Despite it only being a short EP, twigs packs a hell of a lot of punch into these 5 tracks. Art pop is taken to its limits and deconstructed in a way that I haven't heard before. Man I love this twistedly produced EP.
