This album sees Florence and her machinery work pop wonders, with killer choruses, anthemic tunes and touches of delicacy. Florence's voice is great and I love how large as life the album can get, especially with those damned trumpets blasting out every now and then. I wasn't too fond of when the album dramatically dropped its pace after having such great fast-tempo songs, but hey it only adds to the variety of How Big in that sense. Overall, it's a pretty good project from the band that has ... read more
Queens of the Stone Age have been my favourite band for a little while now, and so after going through their discography and Them Crooked Vultures, Kyuss seemed like the next logical step. Sky Valley proposes some nice stoner rock and a product that sounds like it's literally injected with weeeeeeed (and lots of it). I'm split on the vocals since I've been used to Homme's voice so much when it comes to stoner rock, but I still enjoy some of Garcia's moments. It felt pretty samey as an album but ... read more
Crash sees modern pop darling Charli XCX take a nose dive back into her mediocre mainstream pool that she left 6 years ago, resulting in a particularly unremarkable and conflicting album which bamboozles me more than it fulfils me.
For a little context, How I'm Feeling Now (as much as I think is a modern pop masterpiece) did not meet her label's expectations and didn't sell all too well, and so I feel like Crash is more of a submission to her label rather than a real expression of herself. ... read more
Disintegration has aged like fine wine, with catchy and hard hitting classics that The Cure seem to have sold their souls for in order to preserve. Like Pornography it's another eerie listen, but compared to the other album this is more sultry and emotional. With many more romantic tie-ins, there's an aroma of infatuation that surrounds the album, and it's wonderful. Although I would say this is superior to Pornography ultimately as a project and in terms of singular tracks, there's one key ... read more
And after 10 months of first listening to Radiohead, I've finally found the effort to finish their discography with the incredibly unremarkable Pablo Honey.
Zamn, this album's boring as shit!
And I mean boring in the sense that it feels like literally nothing happens within this album. There's some nice guitars here and there and some good singing from Thom but in the end I feel completely unaffected and kind of meh about what I just listened to. Like I feel like I should like this more ... read more
I went in expecting it to be horrible, and it turned out to be relatively alright. I might actually prefer this over some other Radiohead albums which is saying something I guess.
Favourite Song: Give Up the Ghost
Best: Bloom, Morning Mr Magpie, Little by Little, Lotus Flower, Codex, Separator
Worst: Feral
For the most part, Team Sleep is a charming little art rock/shoegaze side project featuring some of the underground's most notorious artists, such as Zach Hill and the lead singer of Deftones. There's not much to come back to, but it's still a nice listen despite the album lacking a distinct identity since it almost has too many ideas which never seem to truly flourish.
Favourite Song: Ataraxia
Best: Ever, Your Skull Is Red, Blvd. Nights, Elizabeth, Live from the Stage
Worst: Tomb of Liegia
A distorted hyper blast of electronica guaranteed to give you a blissful headache. The production is great but if you've heard one song, you've heard them all.
Favourite Song: Super Ink Burst
Best: Pale Eyes, Bug Thief, SΕlar Blade, Zen Champ, Infinite Mint, Teal Yomi / Olivine, Peanut Choker
Worst: Purity Shards
Well hey whatdya know, AOTY's favourite album is pretty good. Get To Heaven is a colourful and bright album dealing with the afterlife through some stunning art pop and rock combinations, overall ending in a pleasant and varied listen. Normally I get annoyed by thick British accents but it worked quite nicely here, despite the lyrical nonsense that was being spewed at points.
Favourite Song: To the Blade

Pornography is as ominous as it is darkly beautiful. I love the aroma that's created, with Robert Smith's wailing vocals being drowned out in a sea of noise. It's pretty damn cool, and pretty innovative given that this was made in the 80's.
Also Rolling Stone can kindly shut the fuck up.
Favourite Song: The Hanging Garden
Best: One Hundred Years, A Short Term Effect, The Figurehead, A Strange Day, Cold, Pornography
Worst: Siamese Twins
Mellon Collie is a stunningly beautiful delve into a heavenly world of rock's subgenres. Grunge, shoegaze, punk, alt rock, hard rock and art rock all collate elegantly into a 2 hour journey of human emotions amped up to eleven. Everything from the gorgeous ballads to the hard hitting relentless bangers are all pristine and top notch, which is surprising for an album with 28 tracks. Each track was at least somewhat good, and although there is a fair bit of filler with a handful of tracks, it's ... read more
After the experimental magnum opus of Atrocity Exhibition, uknowhatimsayin¿ sees Danny back to basics. The beats are very well crafted and Danny's vocals are as brilliant as ever, and although it's not as genre pushing or unique as his previous album, it's still a solid piece of lo-fi abstract hip hop with some nice features and some catchy hooks.
Also shout out to Q-Tip for doing most of the great production, and also to JPEGMAFIA and Flying Lotus for their efforts too.

LP1 finely shows twig's strengths, with her experimental, sultry and sexual approach to art pop. It's a shame that ever since this album, her two latest full length projects have been subpar and lacking in terms of showing off her distinct identity, especially on the middling Caprisongs. So after having two disappointments it's nice to know that early twigs was pretty damn good. Her first LP is overall an eerie and timid yet intimate listen, and I can clearly tell where the influences for ... read more
This is possibly one of the most cinematic albums I've ever listened to. Its grandiose concept and spaced out sound definitely gives it some moments of brilliance, but some parts are boring as hell. It's the epitome of pure, finite dad rock.
Favourite Song: Money
Best: Breathe, Time, The Great Gig In the Sky, Any Colour You Like
Worst: On The Run
This is what I imagine musical ADHD to be like. For the most part it's really scratchy and irritable but some songs are genuine bops. I expected to like this way more but sadly I didn't, still a decent album though.
Favourite Song: Krystle
Best: Ghost, Frenesi, Post Rave Maximalist, Freewill, Excruciating Deth, Hidden Power
Worst: Phase Alpha
When will I get to be happy.
Favourite Song: Beach Life-In-Death
Best: My Boy, Stop Smoking, Sober to Death, Nervous Young Inhumans, Bodys, High to Death, Famous Prophets, Twin Fantasy
Worst: Cute Thing

After 3 studio albums which pioneered electronic music for decades to come, Alive 2007 represents everything that the duo had accomplished up to that point. Not only does it showcase their unbeatable technical abilities in terms of mashing up their songs, but it also showcases what I thought were the weaker songs in their discography and brings a new light to them. Homework and Human After All left me pretty disappointed since both felt very boring and dragged out compared to ... read more
So many faded 2000s bands have struggled to keep up in recent times. Muse, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Fallout Boy; all once rock bands which have since turned to synths and electronics with varying degrees of success in order to preserve their hopes of keeping their sound and relevance alive. The Strokes however prove that after almost 2 decades since their debut classic, they've still got their indie rock hearts beating on.
