Baby Keem - The Melodic Blue
70

Tame Impala's number one fan makes one of the dumbest albums I've ever heard, and it's incredibly fun. Keem has an infectious charisma to him that makes him very likeable, but Keem does rely very heavily on good production in order to make great tracks. His flow and tone gets very repetitive, so the beats need to change in order to accommodate for this, and luckily they predominantly do. There's a lot of dumb hype trap stuff on here, but there's also a few more tender tracks, as well as the ... read more

Gorillaz - Demon Days
65

Despite having some incredible singular songs, as an album experience it's very clunky and strange compared to something like the later Plastic Beach. The start and middle of the album has real promise and packs a lot of punch with modern classics like Feel Good Inc and Dirty Harry, but when the album starts to get absurd in its concept, it gets absurd in its music choices too, leading to a very underwhelming last few tracks that ultimately drag down the experience. The makeup for a fantastic ... read more

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
65

MGMT are a curious case of victims of their own irony, because what started out as just making mindlessly catchy songs to get rich and famous turned into an abyss of creative restriction, and Oracular Spectacular sees the two worlds merge semi awkwardly. You can clearly tell which songs were meant to be vague and indie bait for teenagers, and which songs were meant to be more in depth psychedelic endeavours. Unfortunately, the mindless indie pop bait is of a much better quality than the ... read more

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
90

This is the saddest 9 I've ever given, because this could've been a masterpiece but SIMBI's very few faults mean that it's a little more scattered than other conscious hip hop records like TPAB. But still, Simz continues to bring something new to the table, and consistently proves that she's probably one of the only good British rappers going who hasn't plunged into the mediocre pool of grime or trap (apart from one song).

The singles were what hyped me up immensely for this album. Over a ... read more

When every single song sounds exactly the same then what's the point of an album?

Favourite Song: The Path

Best: Mood Ring

Worst: Stoned at the Nail Salon

Travis Scott - Rodeo
85

Rodeo experiments with trap and pop rap in a unique way unlike anything else that's come before it, and it's packed with some deceptively intricate bangers. The beats mix together trap with a good helping of psychedelics, good features and pure energy to make a hip hop album for the ages, but it's unfortunately slightly dragged down by a rough landing and a few whiffs in the track list.

Scott's charisma and blood bumping energy is what fuels this absolute masterful mess of noise. The lyrics ... read more

Florida Georgia Line - Life Rolls On
30

Listening to this was one of the funniest fever dreams I've had in a while. It's even funnier when I realised this is the first country album I've ever heard and it epitomises every country stereotype ever that country tries not to be nowadays. EXCESSIVE DRINKING! HOT SEX! MORE DRINKING! DRIVING BIG TRUCKS! TRAP BEATS! TRAP BEATS????!!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MUSIC THAT WE SUDDENLY CAME TO THIS POINT?

The thing that blows my mind is that these guys are taking music seriously. They ... read more

Kanye West - Donda
85

I've managed to steer clear of most of the Donda stuff apart from maybe a few snippets of songs, and I'm glad I did. Although this feels like I'm listening to a MEGA file rather than an actual album because of its length and its unfinished and sprawled nature, it's still an invigorating and powerful album. It reminds me mostly of The Life of Pablo because it's extremely messy and full of ideas, and overall it's as if TLOP, Ye and Jesus Is King were merged together. I enjoyed the listening a ... read more

Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
100

Rock is dead, and rock killed it. 2010s rock paled in comparison to other genres. Hip hop became the new rock and roll, and pop started taking more artistic and interesting forms. Electronic and experimental music also blew up, but rock started becoming weaker and weaker as the years went by. Your typical rock bands that had blazing guitars and killer vocals took a step back making way for indie artists, and so a rock shaped hole was left in the industry. And as the greatest bands of prior ... read more

Death Grips - Government Plates
40

Usually I love Death Grips' ability to powerfully blast through explosive and weird sounds, but Government Plates feels a bit like a whoopie cushion of insignificance. This album is weirdly boring for one of the most exciting bands ever. There's not much cohesion within the tracks unlike Powers That B, there's no catchy bangers unlike Bottomless Pit and Money Store, and altogether it's just straight up not as fun or exciting as the rest of their discography. At the time of its release I can get ... read more

Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
70

Titanic Rising feels very retro. It mixes together older baroque elements with newer electronic ones in order to produce something that feels a lot older than it actually is. There's this old-timey nature to Weyes' voice and lyrics, but I can't say that her voice is my cup of tea, and I can't say that all of the lyrics are perfect. There's some predictable and kind of generic lovey lines, but my vocal issues are partly saved by Weyes utilising great multi-harmonies like on Everyday. But ... read more

My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
80

Compared to MCR's later magnum opus of 'The Black Parade', Three Cheers shows how the band has the potential to make an impeccable album, but unfortunately they still haven't cracked the code. I say this because although they have a ridiculous amount of bangers on this, samey-ness plagues the entire album. It's not the worst thing however, because the similarities ensure that every song goes extremely hard and loud.

So rustic is the best word to describe this, and it's used to point out its ... read more

BjΓΆrk - Post
75

Bjork is a bizarre lady. I've never had an artist's music confuse me as much as Bjork's has, because everything from the vocals to the instrumentals have so little meaning and coherence, but yet they still do. Her talent is inexplicable, and I couldn't say if she's a genius or a straight up weirdo.

What I can say with Post is that it has its highs but also its lows. There's quite a few boring or forgettable tracks, mainly due to them being a lot more tame than the best stuff on here. But then ... read more

Playboi Carti - Die Lit
80

Truly the Kid A of trap music.

It's hard to comprehend how something that's so pointless, repetitive and annoyingly catchy can be so damn enjoyable. With lyrics that are near to impossible to understand, really solid features and beats that change just enough to keep things interesting, Die Lit never ceases to infatuate me. Trap has always been a throwaway genre for me for years now, but this album has showed me that when handled correctly, trap can be hype as hell, but also very creative. ... read more

Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album)

Favourite Song: Buddy Holly

Best: The World Has Turned And Left Me Here, Say It Ain't So

Worst: Undone

Porter Robinson - Nurture
95

Geez, this is really beautiful huh. With a culmination of luxurious electronic ballads weaved together with great vocals, Porter Robinson makes something that's enchanting and glorious.

In a time without hope or freedom, Mr Robinson conjures a world of infinite horizons within 59 minutes of musical ecstasy. Each song is stringed together with their similar instrumentals but they also have their own distinctive traits that helps make the album ever changing. I love the quieter and more subtle ... read more

Drake - If You're Reading This It's Too Late
80

If You're Reading This sees a new side to Drake, one that isn't trying to sell out with pop rap anthems or trying to do the bare minimum just so he has album content. There's actually thought into the beats and the lyricism, and although it's not a very deep, new or completely original project, it's still very fun and enjoyable, and quite simply iconic.

I say iconic because whilst hearing this mixtape for the first time, I recognised a handful of the songs, whether it be their beats or from ... read more

Viva la Vida is a curious case of an album. It's meant to be inspired by the French revolution, hence the title and the cover art, but there are only a few songs that actually link it to this concept and they're actually the better songs on the album. Still though with their huge side tracking, Coldplay manages to make a decent track list with some iconic stuff laced within.

The first 6 tracks are good but they're not why you came for this album. You come for the holy trinity of Viva la Vida, ... read more

Charli xcx - how i'm feeling now
100

Charli has always tinkered on the edge of making a brilliant album, but there has always been a few songs on the likes of Pop 2 and Charli that have held back her releases' true potential. how i'm feeling now, despite being the most rustic of her albums, has truly clicked with me in a way that Pop 2 and her self titled couldn't. Something about the harsh mixes of experimental sounds, from bubblegum bass to hyperpop and then to nightcore type shit, mashed with emotional and intimate lyrics works ... read more

Nothing But Thieves - Nothing But Thieves
85

The NBT self titled is a great foundation for what would eventually become an extremely solid and consistently diverse band. Their formula is perfectly set up here, with catchy choruses, and with the songs either being absolute bangers or more ballad-like tracks. No matter what style or direction they're going for in terms of their tone, their musicality always manages to pull through and manifest a track list that is essentially laid out in the perfect order.

The only problem with the album ... read more

"@NeedlefluuJr Hehe no worries. The beauty with art is that our opinions and views on things change over time, and when people invite you to look back and reassess something it's always a nice feeling regardless if it's something you do or don't enjoy. I'm very much an opinionated person but sometimes I can be a bit harsh, so thanks for highlighting my WAY TOO harsh score. No piece of art deserves a 0 unless it's actively offensive or devoid of any integrity, which is rarely ever the case, and this song certainly doesn't fit that category especially because Simz is a true from the heart story teller. I hope that going from 0 to 30 has increased the songs average rating by at least 0.1% 😎"

"Yeah Conor definitely put in an underperformance on this one. Going from his beautiful ballads on the self-tilted to his booming screeches on the Broken Machine bangers, to then landing on a laid back not-even-trying indie pop rock whimper is kind of jarring. Still a good album IMO but as a vocalist he's been pushed to the sidelines by inconsistent synth pop formulas and idk how to feel about it."
