SOAD returns with the first part of a pair of albums, Mezmerize. A more compact and complex album than the previous one, somewhat less chaotic but more grounded in place. The music, of course, is still energetic, sometimes stressful and other times beautiful, and we can find these setbacks even in the lyrics: from heartbreaking lyrics to random and funny lyrics but with a key message and objective, the one that has always marked the band. Daron takes on more prominence and shines with his ... read more
Another Dr. Dre album with the rappers of the moment creating a fluid project, with a lot of flow and legendary beats. Phrases/bars, beats and memorable melodies make up this complete hip-hop project from the 90's, although it does not have as much depth in its lyrics as in his previous project. In any case, it is a symbol to follow that many have used as influence in the future and for a reason it will be...
Pink Floyd is still at the top and they don't plan to go down, with this album they prove it. A work of art of sound colors, layers and textures, created from mixed sounds (guitars, synths... etc) that would be marked forever. Melodies, lyrics, fine textures (sometimes relaxing, other times explosive or screaming) make up this immortal and consistent project, so advanced of its time especially for its production elements, and maintained the great name of the band in those times until ... read more
This album is the art of minimalism writ large. With a few motifs, elements and melodies/armonies, they create a variety of perfectly cohesive themes, having references and elements from previous tracks that create a certain consistency. At the same time, the division into two parts is perfectly carried out; the lyrics, the sound layers with guitars, synths and choirs, the drums and bass so minimalist but expressive... From the atmospheric intro to the apotheosic ending there is no boredom, the ... read more
My personal favorite album by SOAD because of his frenetic tracks, fun elements and, at the same time, painful messages and themes that have characterized the band. The variety of sound layers, ideas and facets means that this album does not become boring and, furthermore, the songs are very dynamic no matter how short the length of the songs is. It is not as consistent an album as Toxicity, but it continues along the same path of energy and awareness.
Meddle is the first Pink Floyd project that starts sounding a little bit more Pini Floyd. Some structures, melodies and chords remind us of the group's sound, but other themes move away from it. On the other hand, the album feels somewhat inconsistent but the songs are generally very good (of course, Echoes is a perfect demonstration of the band's songwriting maturity).
Simply a great demonstration of production and beat-making skills from one of the best producers of the 90's west coast: Dr. Dre. Collabing with a lot of big rappers of the time, Dre and company create a perfect, funky and viby unique hip-hop sound by mixing great lyrics and powerful beats. The flow in every track made this album legendary, thanks to a lot of memorable songs and other very good but not at the level.
A complex project with a concept that they did not execute completely well. Sometimes it becomes a bit tiring and long, it is too ambitious but not very interesting (You can see the work and dedication behind each track, but as a whole they do not completely complement each other).
Here, the great alternative/nu metal band SOAD gives us a splendid record with perfect production, destroying and very shocking lyrics, a lot of energy and anger and, overall, craziness. Here the 4 members become one but without forgetting each one's roll, creating a very specific sound with very original musical elements for getting fun while they make you aware. This album is simply incredible, after their spectacular debut they do not lower the level, but rather they surpass it and build ... read more
Frank Ocean's great album, with a duration of exactly one hour, opens before its listeners with a very minimalist, clean and pretty rnb/pop sound.
With layers of heavenly pads, EQ pianos, very simple drums and original elements and effects, Frank delivers perfect, highly varied and well-ordered lyrical/vocal performances throughout the record. Many tracks create a unique feeling of nostalgia, others are very dark, others are simply bright or ambient.
On the other hand, the concept of the album ... read more
Frank Ocean takes his rnb influences and fuses them with alternative electronic or hip-hop elements, pop structures and sounds, and even psychedelic layers/colors. In his first project, he reinvents and popularizes the rnb by creating a complete, stable, varied and original record with beautiful harmonies, lyrics and vocalines. Obviously, the production, choice of sounds, samples and final product are splendid.
Frank starts his solo career in the air!
SOAD's debut begins its career in the most explosive, angry, fun and dark way possible, demonstrating its potential from the first track to the last. Alternative metal with very careful and clean elements but at the same time dirty and tremendous; very unique and original vocal/guitar performances; desperate and screaming lyrics, some aspirations of the traditional music of their lands that gives a personal touch to the group... and, above all, a lot of energy.
One of the best debuts in metal ... read more
One of the greatest projects of japanese jazz in the 70's by the glorious Ryo Fukui. Here, this pianist is dedicated to pursuing classic post-bop and not enter the current of funk and experimental jazz. Great arrengements and interpretations of classic standards, with a lot of cohesion, ability and enjoyment. It could be positioned alongside many American jazz albums, but ethnocentrism has caused this great album to be forgotten in the West. Remembering and listening to this brilliant album ... read more
Nirvana tests and demonstrates that their rage and feelings can not only be transmitted through pure noise and distortion, but also completely naked and acoustic. They exude purity, life and darkness, from covers of their own songs and those of other artists (creating a perfect and stable tracklist) to address the world in a very intimate and special way.
Simply put, this is Nevermind's brother, who surpasses him or doesn't reach him at various different points. Explosive intro, strange and experimental tracks, others very calm and others angry and, to conclude, a beautiful and chill song. They achieve a very special sound, reaching their limits of power and distortion even to the calmest and most melancholic of the band.
Without a doubt, a mythical, stable and essential project.
On a day like today, October 24, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was released, one of the best and most influential rock albums of the 90's. Great instrumentals, which provide a brutal range of dynamics without seeming like a bunch of very different tracks (ranging from the calmest and melancholic to the most explosive and gloomy). Each of the members shines on this album, whether with beautiful, virtuoso or lyrically interesting performances.
For an album with 28 tracks, the vast ... read more
Ummagumma is a bunch of random tracks (from live performances of the group's previous songs, weird experiments to 3 or 4-divided noisy pieces with no sense). Personally, there are some tracks that attract me, either because of the strange sound they create, the daring or the randomness, but I find most of them unnecessary.
Nirvana remains as tough and original as ever and offers us another varied album with all kinds of angry but well-made and well-performed songs. The structure is quite inconsistent, including recordings of different sessions from each other and not having much difference in dynamics or internal structure. Even so, the madness of these 3 guys continues to be enjoyed to the fullest.
Another interesting and psychedelic project by Pink Floyd, more compact that his predecessor but not as well produced or composed sometimes like him. Some tracks sound quite bad and even unnecessary, but others They remain at the level or surpass those of the previous album in terms of colors, well-executed concepts and riffs. It's good, but not a very important o memorable one.
Simply, it has everything a rock or grunge record should have. A hard and powerful album for destroying everything that bothers you. Kurt offers perfect vocal performances and mythic riffs/chord changes while Dave burns out his drums with his energy and Nick gets fun. A very compact structure, very pleasing production and all are unforgettable songs, whether slow, melancholic, fast or angry.
