Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA

So I guess this is a hot take here

Sawayama gets me excited for the future, and Rina’s charismatic and likeable persona really shines throughout the record at a lot of moments.

Now, I do have a few problems about this album, and at first I really just couldnt put it into words. Why am I not enjoying this? It has everything I could ask for from a boundry pushing pop record in 2020. But thats excactly it, its boundry pushing for sure, just not very interesting. Sawayama is a step in the ... read more

Dan Deacon - Mystic Familiar
86

Dan Deacon arrives with his fifth studio album, where he continues his streak of fun and playful indierock albums. Mystic Familiar is my first introduction to Dan Deacon, and so this release slipped a bit over my head. Although I’m late to the party, I’m very glad I checked this one out. Mystic Familiar is such a beautiful and rich concept album, with great enjoyable musical moments spread throughout all tracks. Deacon manages to capture a sort of nostalgic rock feel while blending ... read more

King Krule - Man Alive!

Archy Ivan Marshall moves his King Krule project into a more open and sincere representation of himself and society on Man Alive! This LP is a lot more raw and specific than his previous works, with compelling lyrical work and down to earth themes, leaving vivid imagery to the mind. The production is well done, where each single instrumental gets to shine. What I might like the most about Man Alive! is how Archy conveys his emotions through the range of power in his voice, from soft to ... read more

Grimes - Miss Anthropocene

It’s the end of the world, and Grimes delivers another solid pop record which offers an immersive futuristic listen. I’ve been on board with the dance x techno sound Grimes is known for on earlier projects, and “Miss Anthropocene” certainly does not mess with tradition. Somewhat cohesive to “Art Angels” (which in my opinion is the best one from Grimes), this LP moves into more atmospheric spacey territory, where the focus is on the overall sound spectrum ... read more
