I’ve always thought Ellie Goulding had the potential to make a great pop record, as her singles are normally really good, but her projects feature a lot of filler. I was hoping this would be the album, but the second part which increased the running time scared me. And while that part is unnecessary and holds this back from being what it could be, it doesn’t change that this album is a very good pop record.
Brightest Blue isn’t the best pop album of the year or anything, but ... read more
I was excited for this album because I am a Juice WRLD fan and I really enjoy his music. His potential was insane, and his death was tragic. I was hoping this posthumous album would honor him and his legacy, and wouldn’t be rushed as a cash grab by the label. And while it may be a cash grab, that doesn’t mean the music on here isn’t good, because it is.
This is just as good or better than his other projects. A lot of these songs were leaks I had already heard in some form, ... read more
I was excited to listen to this because I love some good disco/synthpop, and I heard this was really good. And it really is.
What’s Your Pleasure? Is a great pop record with stellar production, catchy hooks, and a crazy amount of replay value. I love the nostalgic sound of this record, and I think I’ll have it on repeat for a while.

I don’t enjoy this album as much as Pray for Paris, but it’s still a really enjoyable project from Westside Gunn. The production is good, and he delivers some nice performances too. Some songs don’t hit like others, but it’s still a good project.

Posthumous hip-hop albums, aside from Mac Miller’s, have not been very good recently. Also, I was never a huge fan of his music while he was alive. Nevertheless, I went in hoping for a good project to honor Pop Smoke, and that’s what we got.
My biggest issue with Pop Smoke’s music in the past was that it all blended together and sounded the same, as he rarely switched it up from his usual drill style. On here though, it’s a different story. Not only does he change his ... read more
Never been a G-Eazy fan, and this doesn’t really change that.
Sure, this is a different direction for him, and I commend him for stepping out of his comfort zone, but the music on here is nothing more than generic. It went over a little better than expected, but still not interesting at all. This sounds like he tried to make a bunch of Post Malone songs. Not bad, just not all that good either.

I normally like 6LACK’s music, but I can admit he can be pretty standard and generic. I was hoping this would be unique, but I wasn’t optimistic. And I was right.
This felt like listening to nothing. I just zoned out. It’s not bad, and I think most of it is enjoyable, but it’s just painfully average. I like the production, but it’s just not all that interesting.

I’m a HUUUUUGE 88GLAM fan. I loved both of their projects, and I have been patiently waiting for new music since. And this is exactly what I wanted.
It’s not their best project, but it’s a quality mixtape with stellar production and catchy flows and performances from both 88Camino and Derek Wise. I’m excited for CTHFFG, but this is an extremely enjoyable project to hold fans over.

I’m not usually a fan of Wale’s music, but this is actually pretty good. It’s not amazing, and it’s not revolutionary or anything, but it’s a solid collection of tracks with some good production.

City On Lock is a solid project, but they still hasn’t fully capitalized on their potential. If they had cut a few songs from this, and the production was a little less generic, this could have been really special. But as it is, it’s still an enjoyable project despite its flaws.
Fav Tracks: Jobs, Broke N****s, Pussy Talk, City On Lock, Winnin, Rodeo, Friendly, Ain’t Say Nothin

This is better than I expected, even if it’s just the same thing he always does. If you REALLY, and I mean REALLLLY like this style, then maybe you will think this is great. For me, this is pretty basic and boring, even if the songs are decent and so is the production.
Fav Tracks: Off My Chest, Outside, It’s Whatever, Mink Coat, Tide Pen, Chopstix
Least Fav Tracks: Florida Jit, 24s
It’s not bad, and there is some good production and some good highlights, but it’s too long and too generic to really have the impact it could have.

Edit: revisiting this almost 3 years later, and this has grown on me significantly.
Original review from 2020:
I was surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reviews I saw for this album, as I never really was that into Chloe x Halle’s music. And honestly, this doesn’t impress me all that much either.
They are great singers, but the production is just not all that interesting. Yeah, their voices are beautiful, but the songs they are singing are bland. It’s not bad, and there ... read more
While I find his Industry Plant project to be a little more enjoyable, this is still a decent record. It has some good production and some catchy hooks, but unfortunately the songs start to blend together. This ultimately makes this project pretty boring and generic, even if it’s pretty decent.

This is an incredibly hypnotic, fun, but flawed listen. The production is really good, and Young Nudy is able to come through with fun and energetic performances throughout, but not everything hits. There are many songs that are less interesting than others, but nothing outright bad. If this was around 10 tracks this would have been one of the better rap albums this year, but as it is it’s just a fun trap record.

I typically am not a huge fan of Zaytoven’s production, but I really enjoy Lil Keed and I typically find Lil Gotit and Lil Yachty to be ok so I was intrigued. And then I saw the reviews. And now here we are.
This is nothing. There is nothing to this. What is the point? This is boring affff. No.

I’d never heard of Perfume Genius before listening to this, so this was my introduction. And I’m impressed. It’s a very beautiful and emotional album, and there are some great highlights. I think what he is trying to do works most of the time, but there are some moments that come across as less impactful and interesting than others. Nevertheless, this is a great album that has me intrigued to listen to his past work.

Lil Boat is a fun mixtape with a lot of personality, but it’s just not very good past that. The production has a cool and happy vibe, but Yachty just isn’t good enough to make this all that good.
