Run The Jewels - RTJ4
84

As crazy as it may sound, this is my first time listening to a full RTJ album. Now that I’ve heard this, I’m going to go back and listen to the other 3 because this right here is great.

This came at the perfect time. We really needed this. The production is phenomenal, and both Killer Mike and El-P deliver fantastic verses. To fully wrap my head around this and give my full thoughts I’m gonna need to listen a few more times because this is really phenomenal.

Lil Xan - TOTAL XANARCHY
15

In honor of my 300th review, I decided to review one of my least favorite albums ever. Ok so here is my review...

This album sucks. That’s it. Thank you for your time.

Fav Tracks: ...the Rae Sremmurd feature?

Least Fav Tracks: Everything. Literally everything.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B
70

Dedicated Sides B lives up to its predecessor and maintains the infectious and fun atmosphere with great production and catchy hooks. While it still has the same issues as the first one, it is still as enjoyable, if not a little more enjoyable.

Fav Tracks: This Love Isn’t Crazy, Window, Felt This Way, Stay Away, This Is What They Say, Summer Love, Let’s Sort The Whole Thing Out, Solo

Least Fav Tracks: Comeback

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated
75

Dedicates is an incredibly solid and infectious synth pop record with some great production, catchy hooks, and good songwriting throughout. Some songs go over better than others, and a few songs could have been cut, but nevertheless this is still a really impressive album.

Fav Tracks: Julien, Now That I Found You, Happy Not Knowing, Too Much, Automatically in Love, Feels Right, Right Words Wrong Time, Party for One

Least Fav Tracks: The Sound

75

I have listened to this album numerous times since it’s release. I have tried to formulate my thoughts on this album and figure out how I feel about it, but I honestly still don’t really know what to say. I really want to love it, but no matter how many times I listen it just doesn’t click with me like that. It’s very good, and there are some great highlights, but overall this project just feels a little unfocused and all over the place, even if I do like it a lot.

Yung Schmoobin - Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat
65

Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat is an incredibly fun and enjoyable project. The production is good, and Yung Schmoobin has a lot of presence, charisma, and potential. There are some mixing issues throughout the project, but it doesn’t completely ruin the listening experience. This mixtape is not revolutionary or anything, and it can be pretty inconsistent with moments on here that feel like they could have worked if they were executed a little better, but it’s just a fun and well done ... read more

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 3
65

I haven’t really ever enjoyed a Lil Yachty project up until this point. In fact, a few of his projects are among my least favorite rap projects of the 2010s. But this one is different.

Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t think this is all that great, but it’s so much better than his other projects. His performances don’t make me cringe as much, and the production on here is actually pretty good. He also got some incredible features on here. (Shoutout Tierra Whack). ... read more

Lady Gaga - Chromatica
70

Edit: This has grown on me a little bit. (Original score was a 65)

Original Review:

This is a decent album, but a disappointing release for sure. Where an album like Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia succeeded in expanding on classic pop formulas, this album feels like it just IS a classic pop formula. The production is decent, but the songs just feel a little flat and underwritten. It’s not bad, just disappointingly average.

Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist - Alfredo
82

This might be the best hip-hop project so far this year. Freddie Gibbs delivers great verses over excellent Alchemist production, and the features on here are pretty great too. I don’t know if it’s better than his projects with Madlib, but it’s definitely on that same level.

Fav Tracks: 1985, God Is Perfect, Scottie Beam, Look At Me, Frank Lucas, Something To Rap About, Baby $hit, Babies & Fools

Least Fav Tracks: All Glass

Deante' Hitchcock - BETTER
65

Better is a project that shows a lot of potential for Deante’ Hitchcock. It features fun and witty bars over some good production with some good guest appearances. It doesn’t reinvent the genre or anything, and there are certainly some underwhelming moments, but it’s a solid debut project that has me excited to see what he does next.

Fav Tracks: I Remember, I Got Money Now, Attitude, How TF, Flashbacks, Growing Up/Mother God, Angels

Least Fav Tracks: Gimme Yo Money

The 1975 - Notes On A Conditional Form
70

Notes On A Conditional Form is a album that while I may enjoy many songs off of, I just come away a little disappointed. It’s way too long and unfocused, and many moments feels incredibly unnecessary or like filler. It just all feels a little too pretentious. There are some great highlights, and there’s a great album in here somewhere, but the way it is presented here truly hinders the listening experience. It’s still good, but it could have been even better if it was 12ish ... read more

KSI - Dissimulation
45

This is exactly what I expected it would be. The production is generic, KSI is not a good rapper, and the constant phoned-in features get annoying after a while. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but it’s just painfully mediocre.

Fav Tracks: Poppin, Wake Up Call

Least Fav Tracks: Cap, Houdini, Domain

Gunna - WUNNA
65

While people tend to dislike Gunna’s projects, I actually don’t think they’re all that terrible. They’re not all that good either, but the production tends to be really good and I don’t see what makes him much worse than the other rappers in his lane. So going into this album I wasn’t excited or anything, but I was expecting another average trap project. And that’s exactly what this is.

Wunna isn’t terrible, it’s just not really interesting ... read more

Kota the Friend - Everything
60

I’ve never really listened to Kota the Friend, so I didn’t really know what to expect. I had heard good things, so I was excited to hear this. And for the most part it’s decent, but just pretty bland and average. The production is decent but nothing about Kota the Friend or his performances are really all that special. If this is all you listen to then you might find more enjoyment out of it then I did, but for me this just doesn’t really wow me or anything.

Slim Jxmmi - Jxmtro
70

The better of the two solo projects. This one has fun and energetic production, and Slim Jxmmi shows why he is the better member of Rae Sremmurd.

Fav Tracks: Brxnks Truck, Prayers Club, Anti-Social Smokers Club, Chanel, Cap, Changed Up, Growed Up

Least Fav Tracks: Keep God First, Juggling Biddies

Swae Lee - Swaecation
65

Swaecation is very boring and generic and shows why Rae Sremmurd is better together. There are some good highlights but the production is pretty bland and it sounds like everything else in this lane. It’s not terrible, just incredibly average.

Fav Tracks: Heat Of The Moment, Offshore, Guatemala, Hurt To Look, What’s In Your Heart?

Least Fav Tracks: Heartbreak In Encino Hills

Rae Sremmurd - SR3MM
80

This review only applies to the first disc, not the solo projects. My reviews for those are on their respective pages.

SR3MM is probably their best and most consistent project yet. The production is stellar, and both members bring fun and energetic performances.

Fav Tracks: CLOSE, Bedtime Stories, Perplexing Pegasus, Buckets, “42”, Powerglide, Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, T’d Up

Least Fav Track: Up In My Cocina

Rae Sremmurd - SremmLife 2
75

While not as good as the first one, this is still an incredibly fun and enjoyable listen with some great highlights.

Fav Tracks: Start a Party, Real Chill, By Chance, Look Alive, Black Beatles, Do Yoga, Over Here, Swang, Just Like Us

Least Fav Tracks: Shake It Fast

Rae Sremmurd - SremmLife
80

Rae Sremmurd’s debut album features some great highlights and great chemistry between the both of them. It’s just a fun trap record with endless replay value.

Fav Tracks: No Flex Zone, This Could Be Us, Come Get Her, Up Like Trump, Throw Sum Mo, No Type

Least Fav Tracks: Safe Sex Pay Checks

Lil Uzi Vert - The Perfect LUV Tape ®
70

An enjoyable Uzi project with some interesting production and catchy hooks and flows.

Fav Tracks: Do What I Want, Original Uzi (4 Of Us), SideLine Watching (Hold Up), I Can Drive, Erase Your Social

Least Fav Tracks: Money Mitch

"@Pankace I don’t think personality necessarily means an energetic delivery or that she’s switching it up. She very clearly is having fun and having a song called Princess Diana after the memes of her being modern day Princess Diana and having many of the lyrics that she does on here shows her personality to me. The production also at times has personality, but I don’t think she’s devoid of it just because she kinda does the same thing over and over."
