Wage War - Deadweight
76

The epitome of late 2010’s bouncy metalcore
This would not have been as fun of a listen as it was without the dense as hell production & mix.

BADBADNOTGOOD & MF DOOM - The Chocolate Conquistadors
94

A blissful keyboard that sways me off on a walk down the strip of Vegas. Accompanied with a bumpin drum groove that perfectly highlights this fact. It's a track that invites you into its lush atmosphere from the get go to the very end.

A fine song, but Lorde's voice has never been one that hooked me in any way. So a stripped back song where her voice is the primary & next to only thing going. Results in me not being that interested.

toe - Our Latest Number
75

Toe takes it back home & come out with some of their best tracks in recent memory
GIVE ME THAT NEW LP

toe - DOKU-EN-KAI
95

I highly recommend anyone that enjoyed this release or is interested in it, to then also watch the full live release on their youtube page. The amount of passion they exhibit live is irreplaceable. Not to mention you get plenty more reimaging's of their music

Royal Blood - Typhoons
56

Couple grooves, but with the songwriting lacking, it can't make up for its lack of punch

Between the Buried and Me - Colors
85

The Shining Star of Progressive Death Metal

Between the Buried and Me - Fix The Error
79

Now this is what I'm talking about

an Unkindness - 4 Songs - EP
87

Its hard to express, the level of love I hold for these songs (besides the third track). The lyrics, song writing & vocal delivery all work so incredibly well. From how catchy it is to the weight of the emotions coming across very well. Yes the production & mixing are not very well done. But I listen to these tracks every single day. It nots Steller but it doesn't bother me either

Hobo Johnson - The Revenge of Hobo Johnson
12

Any abstract idea or degree of nuance he went for on his last LP was traded in for some flat acoustic spoken word. This was shockingly bad. From one dimensional political commentary to bland and forgettable clap rhythm guitar & drum tracks with his vocal performance going down the fucking drain

Tyler, The Creator - LUMBERJACK
78

Yo I love the chaotic vocals and grimy drums & production. Such a different feel from his two previous LP. Welcome back Tyler!!

Maroon 5 - JORDI
7

Maroon 5 has nearly completed the cycle
They make repetitive, boring & tone deaf music
Jason Derulo makes repetitive, boring & tone deaf music
Who features on the deluxe edition?

Next album.......Pitbull feature
The Trifecta will be complete

Memes aside, this album features one of the most tasteless features I have heard in my life, If you like Juice World in any way don't listen to this album.

Poppy - EAT (NXT Original Soundtrack)
88

putting the fourth track aside HOLY SHIT POPPY

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
75

An exercise in setting a tone & writing proper melodies to match said tone.
That said, a couple tracks aren't interesting enough on their own.

Favorite Tracks: John My Beloved, Should Have Known Better, Carrie & Lowell, Fourth of July

Least Favorite: Eugene,

Hobo Johnson - I want to see the World
34

How does this lack everything that made his previous LP good?
No peppy sarcasm or subtle emotion in his voice
Boring generic instrumental
Lyrics that lack any degree of nuance to them
Everything is so plain and spoon fed, I hate it oh do I hate it

CHAI - WINK
57

Never have I felt more neutral about a project.

FavoriteLeastFavoriteSongs: :)(:

American Football - American Football

Snowed in Hot Chocolate Kind of Day

Favorite Tracks: Never Meant, The Summer Days. Honestly?, For Sure, , You Know I Should Be Leaving Soon, But The Regrets Are Killing Me, Stay Home,

Least Favorite Tracks: .....

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
100

Mars Volta really took the long, winding song structures & musical wankery of prog and gave it the feeling of urgency of a post hardcore record, with a dash of Latin influences & sound experimentation. Frances the Mute holds itself up as one of the most impactful modern prog releases. Everything feels so cohesive between passages in each track and in the transitions from track to track. The writing from the Mars Volta is so adventurous & exciting, probably the best out of their ... read more

Of Mice & Men - Bloom

Oooooo thats crunchyyyyyyyyy

black midi - Cavalcade
95

Black Midi"s breakout album "Schlagenheim" showed off a rock band that wasn't afraid of experimentation. A post rock outfit that drew from noise, math rock & even post hardcore music. All these various flavors of rock were tunneled through the even wider lens of experimental rock. Which resulted in one of the most exciting new rock bands to come out of the 2010's. Black Midi demonstrated a fresh era of new rock & post punk bands, but now that their second record has ... read more

"A lot of people are not into experimental experiences, hence a lot of complaints about this not having "the other aspects of Xiu Xiu that makes their music memorable" without further elaboration, a comment like this says more about their taste's than it is a critique of the music"

On Spamman's review of The Necks - Disquiet
""it's a track that is a journey, a story." In a sense The Neck's don't make stories within their music. They create static, explorative sonic environments built on repetitions & time manipulation, extensive run times help create the hypnotic effect, creating a mode of stasis where they can add new elements or change the specific details of these repetitions in order to alter the texture of the piece. What may seem like the exact same thing really isn't at all due to how they play around with microtones, pacing & then adding and subtracting pieces from the overall construct. I agree with your assessment on "Causeway" but it's strange to me that you don't see how elements are weaving in and out of the first two tracks."
On landminemower's review of The Necks - Disquiet
"It wouldn't be a 10/10 if it was shorter. The length is integral to the experience of lulling you beyond considering time."
On HomeSession3's review of Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
"I can only wish you & your family the best, an honest beautiful tribute that means a lot to me as I read it. Thank you for having the strength to post this as you go through this incredibly difficult time"
On s3sh's review of Xiu Xiu - Ignore Grief
"Come on man, I can understand where this perspective comes from, but it's sad to see people that wouldn't try to understand the art for what it is than for what their preconceptions of art would dictate for them to believe. Abstract art is art for a reason and its worth exploring why this album is the way it is or at least being able to formulate substantial criticisms for others to contend with instead of offering a statement so broad and dismissive that it begs to be replied too. Just sort of expressing some views the review conjured and not trying to make you feel worthless or express any kind of personal hatred :)"
On Echoesanywhere's review of Andrew Hill - Compulsion
"This review is a great example of reviewing abstract/difficult works of art. Following the music through its patterns (emotional, structural, musical) it reveals the core of what the art is and it doesn't have to be so impossible to define or require knowledge on music theory. The real key I've found is to just really tune yourself into the sound and what it's doing between all the musicians. It will speak to you."
On HomeSession3's review of The Mountain Goats - Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan
"Sounds really interesting! What mountain goats records would you recommend?"
On DAVECHER's review of Stan Getz & João Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto
"I wish the bland recommended jazz had the same degree of warmth in the production & sensory depth in each instrument. Getz sax work is especially stupendous, take O’Grande Amour where he spends most of his time in hushed breath yet the whole thing is so playfully emotional. Making that first and final push at the end so impactful."
On HomeSession3's review of Geese - Getting Killed
"A lyrically great review that distills what makes this album unique! Loved reading it :)"
On cappyk's review of La Dispute - No One Was Driving the Car

On HomeSession3's review of Imperial Triumphant - Goldstar
"I love this review and it's a style that I try to grasp when constricting certain reviews of mine, but rarely capture it as well as you do here. Less a checklist of good and bad qualities and instead you paint a picture of the records character and quality from within. Lovely stuff and my favorite review I've read this year."
