This is exactly what I needed after listening to that Amon Amarth album. This late in their career Death was not only releasing some of their best material, but they were also doing so while experimenting with a new prog sound along the way. And holy shit is the song writing ever on point here.
Not particularly surprised with the outcome of this one even though it’s my first experience listening to one of their albums in full, their reputation speaks for itself. Amon Amarth seem to be treading along the same lines that gave them their notoriety, but unlike groups like Converge or toe. As time has gone on it seems like they have lost their ability to stand as a benchmark example of the best of what the scene of melodic death metal has to offer. They instead turned into something ... read more
Excusing brief passages of groovy catchiness, this is DGD's least inspired effort. It really just feels like a collection of songs that didn't make Afterburner's track list. I mean I'd be surprised if there were at least a couple fun songs to take off of a new DGD record. Which there are here, but man this is one of the most bloated releases of the year...
Best Tracks: For the Jeers, Feels Bad Man, Polka Dot Dobbins
Worst Tracks: One Man's Cringe, Back on Deck
Everything I can want out of an Avant Garde jazz record and then there's still more surprises!
a jumbled & meandering mess, but it has a couple of their best songs. Do with that what you will...

There's something here, but its so unrefined that I can't see myself ever revisiting this ever again.
This is like what I assumed MCR sounded like before listening to the Black Parade. Annoying & uninspired with poor mixing.
Having shorter songs is a perfect choice for albums that want to have a sound that is this straight forward and abusive.
I love it
About what I expected since hearing how much more conventional this record was starting to sound, despite that there are several highlights & stand up production/mixing which really aids the songs lacking in their creative songwriting.
I loved their previous record "Time Will Die & Love Will Bury It" by far its one of my favorite metal albums ever.
Which is why I hate to say that this isn't as special as that last record one. Mostly due to mixing and production issues. I hope I can grow to really like this album, I've tried.

This band was made for me
A combination of screamo, post hardcore, post rock and math rock. With the addition of a violinist to add a more ethereal quality to the songs and you have a combination of sounds that I instantly gravitated too. My enjoyment for this album will only continue to grow. The mix is a big standout for me because if you're going to explore very musically complex genre's than you need to emphasize what each player is adding to the table, thankfully it is done mighty ... read more
kinda sorta grows on you? The mix is super off, the guitar while having a similar tone to what they've had before feels like its been undercut by the drums. The vocals sound choppy and the drums have a wide and flat punch to them. Overall I hope this isn't a sign for how the rest of the album will sound.
