Planet Her is here! A lot of these songs follow a very formulaic pattern that Doja Cat seems to rely on. Although it hasn’t failed her, the chorus-singing verse-chorus-rap verse-chorus order can be really repetitive. But even the songs that are on the weaker or boring side, are saved only by Doja’s charisma in her rap verse like on Naked, Been Like This and Woman.
Her charisma has always helped ... read more

Oh honey I've been WAITING for this one. I've been anticipating this album with every single and review released of it. I love Pom Pom Squad's entire aesthetic and I could not wait to hear Death of a Cheerleader in full.
Even just the intro, Soundcheck, sets up a dreamy and weird entrance for the album and then it just takes off with Head Cheerleader, a light and catchy indie rock song. Mia Berrin's voice is ... read more

Liking Tyler, the Creator’s music and doing stuff like this is hard because I don’t want anyone to think I’m just a blind Tyler follower and I will defend him to the ends of the Earth. And they’re right- I will! But also CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is Tyler, the Creator’s magnum opus. When IGOR came out, I claimed that was his magnum opus too. I wondered if he can go up because how do ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Meet Me in Temecula
This is a 12 song EP. No, it’s not an album. And I hate that a lot.
Speak Less is a pretty heavy, hard-hitting project from Pulses. The vocals on it are roaring and definitely the best part of this record, like on No Good, II and Bold New Taste. But they really don’t carry it that far when everything else falls so short. These songs are very fast-paced and make it hard to really care about any of these. I Meant ... read more

Yes, another New Jersey band. I’ve recently been getting in touch with my roots and listening to bands in the area and Lost In Society is a punk rock band from Asbury Park.
Stay Jaded is a fast-paced EP loaded with loud and catchy guitars and rock-inspired vocals. Pissgrave and Say Anything are very in-touch with early 2000s pop-punk like Simple Plan and blink-182. The sound is a little dated but it’s so catchy and ... read more

You know front he cover, I don’t know what I thought this would be.
I Want to Live My Life is a fast-paced emo album. Until I Bleed Out is the pinnacle of Stars Hollow’s emo sound- with its lyrics being very personal and emotional and the screaming vocals riding over the heavy guitar. This is a very nostalgic sound record with homage to bands like Title Fight and Tigers Jaw, combining heavy guitars with screaming ... read more

If you show me a messy emo album, I’m going to like it. It’s pretty simple.
But Gertrude’s Cat is different than that. It has its moments of typical emo in the whiny vocals and lyrics but the instrumentals are so unique. The title track includes horns and a very well-used guitar on the track that balances well with each other and the vocals. chronicthehedgehog has a very charming instrumental which pair with the ... read more

You caught me guys, I love lo-fi.
This sound is very, very nostalgic to me. Growing up, I loved groups like wishing and teen suicide and I constantly yearn for more of that lofi emo sound. And an easement is that perfectly. 87 days til st. patrick’s day and really good advice are both really beautiful and longing songs. post-finals is atmospheric and Downey’s vocals really enhance the loneliness of the song. The sound ... read more

Hobo Johnson’s History Lesson.
This is.... interesting. Not a good interesting but it’s enough to keep you engaged for sure.
I really love the intro of Anton LaVey- I think the tired sounding vocals with the cheerful chorus is a nice contrast. But then the kissing part is just.... weird. I want to see the World is such a strange song and it just becomes annoying which is unfortunate because the message of the ... read more

THIS TIME AND PLACE IS ALL I'LL EVER KNOW is a fast-paced emo album. Dexterity Saving Throw, Pine Box and Very Cool, Brett have influences of bands like The Hotelier and TWIABP but even with the obvious influences, these tracks are a lot of fun and very catchy. I like when this album goes more screamo, like on Poor Lake's Camp and In Memory. The buildup on tracks like 20 Sided that get to this really emotional bridge and ... read more

I love the intensity of this album. It's fast-pace and messy in the best ways. Tracks like don't melt, science fiction and we were architects once are very reminiscent of early, messy emo music which is a sound I miss all the time. julie has a a shoegaze sound in its vocals with a really lively guitar that pairs well. The instrumentals on this are great, especially new year which has a really intense and heavy guitar. An aspect ... read more

Am I missing something? I think I'm missing something.
What made Porter Robinson's first album so good to me was the video game aspect to it. The very electronic and childlike mixing on Worlds made it so unique. Nurture, on the other hand, really falls flat in the departments of being lively. This just so monotone and boring with no song standing out. It's also really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: It's So Fun (To Be Gay)
MAN ON MAN is unapologetically gay love album. It's weird because it's never "taboo" when a straight artist- someone like Doja Cat or DaBaby come to mind- makes music that is inherently sexual with having sex as the center of the song. But that's never really apparent on music made by gay artists- which is why MAN ON MAN is so special. This is two men who are shamelessly in love and talk about the sexual aspects ... read more

Back in December, Laurel released Petrol Bloom which quickly became my favorite EP of 2020. Laurel has become one of my favorite artists in the disco-pop revival scene and I was extremely excited for Limbo Cherry.
Limbo Cherry is an excellent collection of dance-inspired love tracks. The synth is great on Let Go and creates this incredible dreamy song. Obsessed is such a pretty and innocent song that really highlights Laurel’s ... read more

I love Car Seat Headrest.... but these songs sound like covers done by the middle age men in the cover band that performs at the restaurant near my house every other Tuesday.
I do really like the Kate Bush cover though... sue me.
FAVORITE TRACK: Martin- Superorganism Remix
LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Martin- 1 Trait Danger Remix
Look I loved MADLO because I’m Will Toledo’s little bitch. HOWEVER, I usually hate remixes. This EP is really no exception as I feel a lot of these remixes are.... kinda boring.
The Superorganism take on Martin is really unique and creates an entirely new experience for the track. The 1 Trait Danger remix feels like basic EDM which is disappointing because 1 Trait could’ve made ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Abmiram
Like the release of MMXXI, Daidō is a really short EP from Parteum.
The spacey, synth instrumentals on Uemura-san are really really nice. It's just really hard to care about any of these songs when only two of them are longer than a minute and thirty seconds. But this EP is very well-made despite its ten minute runtime and the instrumentals used on tracks like Na Cabana de Oshima and Continua are beautiful.

I already wrote a review for tuck me in so I will keep this somewhat short. dancing by myself is a collection of songs from boy Pablo's latest album and includes one demo and one unreleased track. There is literally no point for these EPs to exist because they don't need to be released in a certain order and JD's Song could've easily been on a deluxe edition or a new EP.
These songs aren't great. They're very average ... read more
