Rebecca Black - Rebecca Black Was Here

FAVORITE TRACK: Girlfriend

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Blue

Missed opportunity to not put the Friday remix on this but it's fine.

I love the pop direction that Rebecca Black has chosen to go in recently. It's very in-tune with artists like Charli XCX- sometimes a little too much- but the style works for Black's voice. She sounds great on Better In My Memory, Worth It For The Feeling and Girlfriend. The cloudy, electronic instrumental is very catchy throughout the EP, like on NGL and Better In My ... read more

Wallice - Off the Rails

FAVORITE TRACK: Dramamine

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: ...idk

Wallice is an up and coming bedroom pop artist. I first heard of her with the release of Hey Michael and I was excited to hear a more developed project from her because I really enjoyed the song.

I love this. I don't really get the low ratings. This is a pretty standard bedroom pop EP, sure, but it's so fun. It's all just love songs but they have this e The lyrics on Hey Michael are really memorable. I love the overall summertime ... read more

boy pablo - tuck me in

FAVORITE TRACK: rest up

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: people

boy pablo decided to take a page from the Taylor Swift book and split up his latest album into parts. Although, he doesn’t label it as such, a lot of these songs are acoustic versions or just straight rips from his album. tuck me in does have some original songs like people and i just wanna go home. rest up is a really good song but it adds nothing to whatever this sector is. people is a really boring and uninspired track and the ... read more

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Butterfly 3000

FAVORITE TRACK: 2.02 Killer Year

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Ya Love

I have never listened to an entire KGLW project. It’s not that I didn’t want to, I just never got the motivation to get around to listening to it. But I wanted to check this out because a lot of friends told me how much better it is than their past two releases. So if I have to listen to these albums in order... oops.

Butterfly 3000 is a great mix of synth and psychedelic pop. 2.02 Killer Year and Shanghai are so ... read more

Poppy - EAT (NXT Original Soundtrack)
70

FAVORITE TRACK: EAT

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Say Cheese

I Disagree was one of my favorite releases of 2020. And that says a lot because 2020 was jam-packed with music and I Disagree came out nine days into the year. From then on, I knew Poppy was on a completely different level to make her music so standout. So of course I was excited for an EP from her.

The instrumentals on this are really, really impressive. The guitars on this are full of doom and the drums are loud and intense. It cancels ... read more

Christian Leave - Heavy Hitting Hurts My Head
95

FAVORITE TRACK: Hard Wad Body

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: none :D

I love this EP. I love the energy of it and how fun it is and how great Christian Leave sounds on it. This is just such an engaging indie pop EP. Your Life Your Time is so funny and just a fresh summer-sounding song. The guitar on Bedache is so fun. Hearts Melt and Filth are so catchy. And then Hard Wad Body is absolutely gutted. It shows Leave’s talent as an emotional songwriter since the song is so lyric-focused.

Heavy ... read more

Matt Martians - Going Normal
70

FAVORITE TRACK: Where I Lived

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Stampede

Matt Martians is a member of The Internet. And you can tell that by listening to this record.

Going Normal is a very laidback, groovy album. However, that’s all there is to say. It’s more on the level of Steve Lacy’s solo music than The Internet’s projects. But the concept of space throughout the album on Blazin’ and Mercury Retrograde makes this album much more engaging. The vocals on it are good to ... read more

Slayyyter - Troubled Paradise
64

FAVORITE TRACK: Dog House

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Letters

I know with the leaks of this, people really weren’t really liking this record. Personally, I’ve been really excited for this release. I thought Slayyyter’s 2019 mixtape was filled with sexy and intense hyperpop trap songs, so I was hoping Troubled Paradise would be filled with as much energy as her self-titled.

The album starts really strong with these loud and abrasive songs that demand attention. Self Destruct and ... read more

MARINA - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
71

FAVORITE TRACK: Venus Fly Trap

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Highly Emotional People

I'll admit it: Love + Fear sucked.

I've been listening to Marina and the Diamonds since the release of Electra Heart. However, I feel she's had a really tough time getting out of the "2014 tumblr pastel girl" phase compared to her counterparts of Lana Del Rey and Lorde. The music from her early release that made her garner that title is not a problem, but it's the fact MARINA has had a difficult time ... read more

Left at London - t.i.a.p.f.y.h.

FAVORITE TRACK: It Could Be Better

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: there is a place for you here.

Left at London’s debut LP is long overdue at this point. By releasing EPs for three years, Nat Puff has gained quite an audience with her music. t.i.a.p.f.y.h. is a pretty promising release from the singer.

The mix of hyperpop-inspired vocals on the track are really good and different for Puff. It’s used really well on Pills & Good Advice and bathe title track of the album. It’s a ... read more

Bo Burnham - Inside (The Songs)

FAVORITE TRACK: Problematic

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Facetime with my Mom (Tonight)

“Look who’s inside again.”

I know I said I wasn’t going to review this but now that it’s been released as an album, I thought, “why not”? I also work a seven hour desk job so I need to occupy myself somehow.

This whole album is really well performed. Tracks like Content, All Eyes On Me and 30 are all incredibly catchy. The vocals on this are really great, too. Bo ... read more

Alfie Templeman - Forever Isn't Long Enough
74

FAVORITE TRACK: Film Scene Daydream

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Everybody's Gonna Love Somebody

Long overdue, Alfie Templeman finally releases his debut LP. Templeman has been an artist coming up strong in the indie pop scene over the last year. His last EP, Happiness in Liquid Form, was a pretty enjoyable- albeit pretty mundane- pop record. For Forever Isn't Long Enough, I was hoping Templeman would bring more- whether it's in vocals, instrumentals or lyrics.

I really like this. Shady and Forever ... read more

Asian Glow - Cull Ficle
82

FAVORITE TRACK: Circumstances Telling Me Who I Am

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: (xxxxxxxxx)

There's something so deeply enchanting about Asian Glow's Cull Ficle. This album embodies a very specific genre of music I love which is noisy emo lofi. There's a lot of bands who make music like that but my favorite band in the past few years to be making noisy and melodic lofi was teen suicide. And I feel Asian Glow is the closest resemblance of that branch of lofi. I was really missing this type of music in ... read more

GEL - Violent Closure
50

FAVORITE TRACK: Turbulence 2.0

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Assumption

NEW JERSEY PRIDE !!!

Violent Closure is a very loud but standard punk record. It’s nice to hear some flat out angry punk again but it really becomes one note fast. Freaks and Turbulence 2.0 are fun though. The vocals on both tracks are great. And the instrumentals on P.O.V are really a standout on this EP.

Fucked Up - Year of the Horse
72

FAVORITE TRACK: Track XV (Act Two)

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Uh....

Fucked Up’s Year of the Horse is a fully-formed cinematic album. Split into four acts, this album is 81 songs long with no titles. Despite the amount of songs, this album clocks in at only an hour and thirty four minutes. The best way to describe this epic is as Arcade Fire on crack.

ACT ONE: The screamo on Track II, IV, V, XIX is wonderful. The transitions on this are slick. The guitar on this is great, especially on ... read more

Claud - Super Monster

FAVORITE TRACK: Cuff Your Jeans

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: In Or In-Between

I've been following Claud since they were Toast and released their first EP. So I was really excited to finally get around to Super Monster because I loved the singles for it and I really love Claud's voice. And signing to Dead Oceans was also a really smart move.

Super Monster is a very innocent and catchy records. Falling With the Rain, Soft Spot and Overnight are all extremely catchy. Gold has a great instrumental that ... read more

Harmony Woods - GRACEFUL RAGE
75

FAVORITE TRACK: Holding You to You

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Graceful Rage

So I've been following Harmony Woods since the release of Nothing Special in 2017. I've seen her open for Soccer Mommy and I remember she was getting big in the very end of the Modern Baseball era. Graceful Rage is a somber piece from the emo singer-songwriter.

Graceful Rage keeps the lyrical charm that Woods has brought on every project. The lyrics are really a standout on this. Easy and Good Luck Rd. are extremely ... read more

Greentea Peng - MAN MADE
70

FAVORITE TRACK: Suffer

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Meditation

I have never heard of Greentea Peng before this but this album cover entrances me and I needed to hear it.

This album is looooong. It's 18 songs and an hour. My biggest complaint for this is in the length because there's so much content, that it gets hard to seperatr songs. If I didn't take notes on this, I wouldn't be able to differentiate a lot of these tracks. But besides that, MAN MADE is a really well made Neo-soul album. Greentea ... read more

Liz Phair - Soberish
59

FAVORITE TRACK: Spanish Doors

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Hey Lou

In 2003, Liz Phair released her big pop rock single "Why Can't I?". It was her big mainstream hit but before that, Phair was a prominent performer in the women-led rock scene in the 90s. In 2010, she went silent with new releases. After 11 years of silence, Phair is back with 13 new tracks. The difference in her sound was prominent between her releases in 1993 and 2003, so it would be interesting to hear what a difference of ... read more

Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee

FAVORITE TRACK: In Hell

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Posing In Bondage

Four years since the release of Soft Sounds from Another Planet, Michelle Zauner is back. Zauner has matured a lot since the release of her space-aged last album, releasing a book about her life experiences in the past time. On Jubilee, her maturation translates beautifully onto the album.

The instrumentals on this are some of my favorites I've heard this year because it's just so comfortable. There is a lot of retro influence ... read more
