Hovvdy - Covers 2

FAVORITE TRACK: Warning Sign

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: The Only Exception

So I've never heard about Hovvdy before they appeared in my Discover Weekly. And I actually didn't really know any of the original songs they were covering minus claws before the listen, so this was all new to me.

For a collection of four covers, it's fine. Hovvdy does do a great job of bringing their own personal flare to these tracks. claws sounds completely different from the original material. But for the most part it ... read more

Francis of Delirium - Wading

FAVORITE TRACK: Let It All Go

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: None !!

I love this EP. This is a huge step up from Francis of Delirium's last EP. The vocals on this is fantastic. I Think I'm Losing and Let It All Go are emotional and songs I want to scream and cry to while I drive. Not a lot of songs make me feel like that. The guitar on these tracks are great too and make them that much more emotional and angry, making it feel like FOD is talking right to you. Lakes has a great vocal performance. Red ... read more

Dev Lemons - Lemontopia

FAVORITE TRACK: You Don't Do Laundry

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Too Many People

The song psych girl made an album !!

The first thing I noticed about Lemontopia is that it sounds a lot like Kali Uchis. Vocally, tracks like The Sun or the Rain and Too Many People sound just like her. You Don't do Laundry is really catchy. None of these songs are that great but are really fun for what they are. This is a really short and fun EP worth a listen.

Chad VanGaalen - World's Most Stressed Out Gardener
81

FAVORITE TRACK: Inner Fire

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Flute Peace

Chad VanGaalen is a singer that I love a lot. He's a Canadian singer who has helped make a lot of music for Adult Swim and usually headlines their festival. If you never heard VanGaalen before, I highly recommend his albums Soft Airplane and Diaper Island. Soft Airplane is one of my favorite indie rock releases with how imaginative it is and how great VanGaalen's vocals are so for World's Most Stressed Out Gardener, I was really ... read more

Charlie Hickey - Count the Stairs

FAVORITE TRACK: Seeing Things

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Count the Stairs

Count the Stairs is an indie pop EP and the first release from Cali-based singer, Charlie Hickey. It is a very love-based project mainly about heartbreak and depression art times.

The main flaw of this is that it can be kinda basic. It relies very heavily on Hickey's vocals to the point that they become invisible. However, I find Hickey's voice very comforting and relaxing that it doesn't change the album. It actually makes ... read more

COIN - Rainbow Mixtape

FAVORITE TRACKS: Different Moons, Earth to God, Sort It Out

LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS: How It Feels, Turnaround, Make It Stop

The Rainbow Mixtape combines the past two COIN EPs with four new songs. The concept is cute but the assignment of colors doesn’t make sense as none of the songs *feel* like their color. The colors really don’t make a difference besides dividing the albums into parts, so for this review I’m gonna review each part individually.

RED/ORANGE- Hypnotica is ... read more

COIN - Green Blue

FAVORITE TRACK: Earth to God

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Turnaround

This is the second EP from COIN’s Rainbow series. I think these four songs are really generic. They’re very standard indie pop and don’t have the fun that COIN usually brings on tracks. Sprite is good, just very forgettable. Earth to God has really good vocals and is the best song on the part because of that and the emotion of the song. The two middle songs are very underwhelming. The Faye Webster feature just ... read more

Bachelor - Doomin’ Sun
71

FAVORITE TRACK: Moon

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Sand Angel

Bachelor is the joint project of Jay Som and Ellen Kempner (Palehound). I've been super excited for this project since the first single because I've loved both of these artists for a very long time. I really anticipated this because I thought Kempner's raspy voice would match really well with Jay Som's upbeat and truly guitars.

This album has really great lyrics. Doomin' Sun and Aurora are really beautiful and descriptive, focusing a lot ... read more

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Let's Ride

black midi - Cavalcade

FAVORITE TRACK: John L

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Diamond Stuff

I would give up a body part just to see one recording session for this band. The first time I heard John L and those off-key pianos came in just for a moment about a minute in, all I could think the first time was: "Who the fuck thought of this?" And listening through this album, that remained my only thought. From a song construction standpoint, this album is just out of this world.

Cascade is apocalyptic, dark, ... read more

BEARKID - For My Own Peace of Mind
70

FAVORITE TRACK: cold nights

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: darkroom

My friend made this !!! redveil is on it!! I don't want to be biased but I am because this is my account. For My Own Peace of Mind is a hyperpop rap EP. It's personal with some great lyrics.

Lil Mariko - Lil Mariko
75

FAVORITE TRACK: Disgusting

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Shiny

PROUD BITCH, I SMILE WHEN I SUCK !!

I really like this EP. Obviously, it's a joke and I think this is a joke album executed right (finally!). I love Lil Mariko's commitment to the character of being a slutty and cute hardcore ball-stomping bitch. I think it comes alive most on Disgusting, combining this screaming metal and an intense feature from Zheani to Mariko's bubbly bimbo voice. The metal aspects on 100 Dicks and I'm Baby are ... read more

Lil Squeaky - In Development
25

FAVORITE TRACK: A Dance With Death

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: All That Jazz

That feature on A Dance With Death is the reason this has a 25.

Yeah this sucks. I know it's a joke, but you can make comedic music good. In Development is about "woke" culture and has stances and lyrics that are just so uneducated like on All That Jazz and Nothing Ages Well. Lil Squeaky is also not a good rapper and can't ride a single beat on this. The features really save a majority of this, like Kid Floral ... read more

Taylor Swift - Fearless (Taylor's Version): The I Remember What You Said Last Night Chapter
70

FAVORITE TRACK: Fearless

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Tell Me Why

This chapter is romantic and the songs work well together. There's not a drastic sound change in between any songs. I think these songs together tell a really good love story.

Dizzy Fae - Antenna
90

FAVORITE TRACK: Woof

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: None !!

Antenna is a dance EP and it's dope as hell. Dizzy Fae's voice is cold and her lyrics are hard and braggadocios, creating this great dynamic as she rides these club beats. Body Move is a staple dance track and one of my contenders for song of the year. 360 Baby has a groovy R&B vibe that makes such a sexy song with this chorus beat drop that's just awesome. Bend n Snap and Woof are these icy 2000s-inspired female rap songs and Dizzy Fae ... read more

Luna Li - Alone But Not Lonely
85

FAVORITE TRACK: Cherry Pit

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: Trying (maybe???)

Alone But Not Lonely is the second EP this year from singer/instrumentalist Luna Li. Her first EP was all instrumentals, featuring mainly her guitar, violin and harp. This EP, though, features Li's vocals along with a really funky bass guitar on the title track. Luna Li keeps her dreamy style intact by incorporating her violin into most of these tracks and I think that addition makes her a standout in the bedroom pop scene. ... read more

FAVORITE TRACK: staying in

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: kount challenge

I didn't expect this to all be instrumentals from the cover, but I love it!! It's super relaxing and spacey and just really well-constructed bedroom pop instrumentals.

Various Artists - Flex Gang, Vol. 3
40

FAVORITE TRACK: Covered in Blood

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: The End of the Grand Era

girls: what's your zodiac sign? i'm a Leo

boys: shut up girl i dont believe in your fake star bullshit

boys when they see Flex Gang, Vol. 3: so true!!!!

Now I have to shoutout ToasterQueen12 who said in their review of Lil Squeaky's solo album that all the Flex rappers rap like they have a mouth full of spit and can't control their breath on the mic and it's driving me crazy.

Taylor Swift - 1989
66

FAVORITE TRACK: Clean

LEAST FAVORITE TRACK: All You Had to Do Was Stay

Honestly, I just find this album really boring. The featured singles on this really are the highlight since they are the most lively, like Blank Space, Style and Shake It Off. I love old Taylor Swift and I feel Clean is the only connection to that era of hers. The strictly pop sound doesn't fail Swift, with Welcome to New York being an amazing song even though it's so mainstream and dance-pop influenced. But really I think ... read more

God it took me so long to figure out what this album cover was. I literally thought it was feet...

Armand Hammer has a really incredible flow. It's one the best parts of this record for me. The Alchemist is crazy talented and every beat of these songs are good. I would go into that more, but you should expect nothing less from The Alchemist at this point. Its Armand Hammer who brings the life to this album. Stonefruit is unlike any ... read more
