When questioned about his artistic process, JPEGMAFIA mentioned that he liked to keep his sound as organic as possible. On this record, it seems to be the case more than it ever has. Featuring many acoustic drums and guitars with some very live-sounding synths, this record has some pretty stellar production. I can really get past the jumpiness and messiness of this album because the amount of detail is that impeccable. This record, like Black Ben Carson more than Veteran, would really appeal to ... read more
Atrociously uninspired. Even if the tracks were to be finished nothing would have saved this. I think Kanye made a good choice not releasing these songs and I hope they don't find their way onto the new record. I hope we can at least hear the finished version of the slave name song as that small snippit of it posted on Instagram was beautiful.
Slowthai’s artistic direction is rather bizarre as he has a unique delivery that is sort of an acquired taste and sometimes uses some somewhat unique and unconventional production, but often does he back track and just do another song that falls through the cracks. The strings start the track off with incredible tension and fear but it goes nowhere. Some of his lines were fair, but more often than not the lines are filler. Both Denzel and Slowthai did descent, but nothing said was all too ... read more
One if his most experimental and cutting edge beats he has made. This song has no real structure, yet sounds like his music. This thing is a whole mess in a good way. He uses so many tools on this that could yet be so easily looked over. The buzzing noise melody tagged with some electric guitar sounds during the meat of the track, to.the super blurry vocal sample and chamber-like percussion sounds. Peggy’s vocals, on the other hand, are way to disorienting and unfocused. It is clear the ... read more
Not only does this work as an incredible single, it sounds almost like a cinematic trailer for the new record. Ascended shit right here.
Really respect her passion and ambition, especially in the mainstream pop scene, but she could really get better on the pen. As someone who does make music, her production is pretty good so my opinion is valid I guess.
I like it, it flows well and that doin’ time remix thing is dope as hell. Rey’s vocals are some of the best they’ve been. It’s got quite some variety to it and it shows her artistic progression well.
Quality. Sounds like it could’ve been released yesterday. A good mix and tastful soundscape can carry a record a long way.
11 tracks, 38 minutes. This song sounds like a culmination of all of his previous work. It sounds spunky and alienated like triple x yet dark and drugged the hell up like AE. Gorgeous. The full project may be lowkey, short and sweet, or it may just be one of this decade’s finest works. Either way, its looking good.
Reminds me a lot of the Repeat by Smokepurpp beat... Imagine how nasty that joint would’ve been with Flacko on it.
Post Malone killed this vocally. He has become one of the most passionate artists in main-stream pop, really respect his growth as a singer.
“yeah the cover art is good”... honestly
9/6/2019: Static artistic progression. Its surprisingly formulaic.
