The three sided tape series showcases some of Lil Ugly Mane’s more conceptual and rough works. I listened to this tape without a tracklisting or anything, just a split of the three seperate parts, so I’ll try to recall which parts go to which song name. This tape sounds like an Ugly Mane tape, but more so simply Travis Miller. This tape has trap beats, boom bap beats, industrial beats, and even some whacky electronic dance stuff. This is mostly instrumentals, with some verses like ... read more
I know exactly how we can revive BlocboyJB’s career, and its by getting a J Cole feature. Moneybag yo is on this album, and moneybagyo worked with Cole before, so there are connections. J cole has been, whether you like it or not, dominating features in the last two years. What he has been doung which I think is genius is rebranding fast paced trap culture into something more “lyrical” and “thought prevoking” without sacrificing the earworminess of itZ As peiple in ... read more
Another absolute success. Freddie Gibb's flow is spicy as he switched up from these burst triplet flows, Paak.'s verse and immaculate hook catered very well, and Madlib's well textured beat came together in one of the best hip-hop singles so far, among the other few we've gotten so far. I think I actually like this one the most so far of the madlib/freddie gibb's singles, to be honest right now.
I really like the mixing technique on the new singles, this should be a generally solid album.
EDIT 7/5/2019: Bandana is a case study. Not only was it hyped up beyond every other hip-hop album this year, it met the expectations and often surpasses them. The line up for this record is a gold standard, delivering features from four of the most superb hip hop artists in the game, 15 beats from one of if not the greatest sample-based producers of all time, and 15 performances from one of this ... read more
JUMEX is a 19 year old psuedo child with facial tattoos and an obviously predetermined music career. As soon as JUMEX even lifted a finger releasing his first “big single” “TRAPPED,” everyone knew he was an industry plant. He masks this grimey soundcloud rapper on the come up without even really having a come up. Sure, he took advantage of “comedic” social media appearances, terrorizing people smoking weed in classrooms, being loud and destructive... The type ... read more
I know a lot of these lyrical myrical rappers sound a like, cut from the Slim Shady clothe, but this actually sounds identitical to a Tom Macdonald track. NF sounds exactly like him.
These two tracks are not necessarily the most grand and awe-inspiring return for him, nor among his best tracks in his short discography, but I think that it is great to see him start making music again. I feel like he actually made these tracks very recently and hasn’t been making his own stuff consistently within the last six years, as he made it noted that he has been working with many other artists in XL records. Furthermore, I don’t think he really cared to do anything much for ... read more
So it is true... 2019 will see the comeback of Jai Paul
EDIT 6/3/2019: The story behind this compilation and Jai Paul's very unique career has been a very intriguing internet mystery. Jai Paul left us with very little official material, two most notable songs "Jasmine" and "BTSU," a song that got sampled by Drake which is a HUGE deal for this guy coming out of the indie scene, but these tracks were enough for people to bite. I am not the most educated on the history of Jai ... read more
I went into ZUU expecting a victory lap, like a small, short and sweet project that wasn’t intended to carry the same weight and heavy moments as the likes of TA13OO. I was kind of right on this, but there was, as he suggested, something different about this project from the others. Starting on a positive note, FnZ’s beats on this thing were, for the most part, successful. His beats were noisy, abrassive, and often times industrial while being fairly accessible. It seems very like ... read more
Trap is everything
but I'm not gonna lie the way it was done here was kind of a surprising turn and the Ghostface Killah Feature was dope and the album was generally hard
My dad does DJing on his free time. I have listened to a lot of dance and EDM music growing up as a result, and songs like such have become super nostalgic for me. There is something so cool about this song.
The rythm of the song may be slightly out of the ordinary, but its just a boring grey-area trap cypher.
I really like the way Flying Lotus has sort of weighed out his strengths and weaknesses on this thing, integrating new sounds and voices into his very unique sound. The project features a lot of his trademark baselines, sharp, rattling drums and soulful vocal layers while adding verses and features from some newer artists like .Paak, Curry, and Tierra Whack and super glitzy synthesizers. The sounds is similar to "You're Dead!", but it feels much larger as "You're Dead!" felt ... read more
